Summary; Some journeys take us far from home. Some adventures lead us to our destiny.
Log;

Destrier tossed his head, ill at ease to be so close to the White Witch's home. Horses had that sixth sense you know. The edge of white glistening snow drew nearer and nearer. Caspian glanced aside to Susan and her steed, perhaps they should hitch the horses here, within running distance. Just for safety's sake.

And for safety's sake, he was carrying both Rhindon and his own sidesword at his hip.

[ooc: Caspian, Susan, Jadis for tagging order!]

"I can only imagine what questions would require you to approach my home bearing arms," Jadis replied, with a small gesture of the hand gripping her wand.

It was nothing but emphasis, but she'd seen Caspian eying the wand, and it amused her to try and unnerve the pair.

There's no way to rein in a sour conversation. And this is most sour. Why must they speak to her? Why must both brothers be gone?

"And we will not lift ours." If there is no reason to. Oh how this witch is an awful person.

Susan takes a look to Caspian, he is doing rather well so far. Hopefully he'll not speak too hotly.

Jadis had no idea what happened to Peter and Edmund. But if it gave her even the slightest advantage, she was more than happy to let people think otherwise.

These people specifically.

"You come into my realm, bearing weapons, and you make veiled suggestions that I've harmed your dear brothers. I can hardly be expected to put aside my own means of defense."

[identity profile] lionesssejant.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, we've come. And yes we have weapons. We have not used them. We don't intend to unless you give us a reason to. Please, we want to know," she spoke gently, as titled, with an edge of urgency.

She must answer. Would it be the truth? There should have been more planning. It was too late of notice. And it wouldn't do the City well to make enemies with this witch. Not at all. Susan willed herself to stand her ground like Caspian.

Jadis laughed. The only reason she'd been defeated the first time was because of Aslan's intervention. Without their protector, what could these children do to her here?

"Harm them? Not in the least. Have I made any threat at all against them? All I have ever done is offer my hospitality. And if young Peter and young Edmund wished to accept my offer, surely they would have left word with their dear sisters and dear friend."

She reached out to grab whatever she could of his clothing, hoping it was unseen. Caspian, wait! You must.

If he approached any closer, the very delicately placed civility they came bearing would not last.

It didn't matter that Caspian hadn't drawn the broadsword, and wasn't precisely moving to make a threat. When he stepped away from Susan and toward Jadis, she raised the wand and pointed it toward him.

"Then would your argument not be with Edmund? It would seem he's not grown so much yet that he's overcome that habit."

[identity profile] lionesssejant.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
It was not at all like Susan to raise her voice, even in an argument. Now was definitely a different circumstance entirely. "Answer and we'll be gone. Do you or do you not have Edmund and Peter?" she said in a stern voice she never knew that she had.

That wand, why did it have to be here? It was one of her most powerful assets. And it was pointing right at Caspian. Slowly, with her free arm, she pulled her bow from her shoulder. A sword could not strike the witch if she chose to move, an arrow on the other hand...

Jadis wasn't at all keen on the fact that there were weapons being leveled at her now. Even if she had the two boys -- and didn't she wish that were true? -- she would hardly have agreed to release them simply on the threat of two belligerent children.

"You dare stand at the seat of my power and make threats against me? Your Peter and Edmund are beyond your reach now. Think carefully on your next words, if you would escape their fate."

"Caspian!" He charged ahead so swiftly that there was no way for her to grab at him once again. Bad to worse in mere seconds. Her bow and arrow were ready to fly fast and true to be the Telmarine's only back up.

[identity profile] queenoftraitors.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Jadis raised her own sword to the ready as soon as she Caspian move, blocking his blow and bringing her wand around toward his head. She was less concerned with Susan than with the young king, which may have been a mistake on her part.

[identity profile] lionesssejant.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh the witch should be concerned with Susan. The first arrow that touched her fingertips aligned with her target in the upper shoulder of the arm that held the wand. No thought at all was required for this move only to spare Caspian's life at all cost.

No one dear to me would be lost this day, Susan promised herself releasing the arrow.

[identity profile] queenoftraitors.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The jab was knocked away, though just barely. There was too little room for a proper defense. But Caspian's attempt accomplished one important thing -- it kept Jadis's attention away from Susan and her bow.

The arrow buried itself in her shoulder, and Jadis screamed from anger, dropping the wand into the snow. She reached up and snapped the shaft in half, then caught Susan's gaze before raising her sword and swinging furiously down toward Caspian.

[identity profile] lionesssejant.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Her stare awoke fear in Susan. She wasn't going to stop! She'll fire again, Caspian must get out of the way. Even without her wand it looks as though she will continue on like this.

"Hurry!" The bowstring leaving her fingers nearly burned with Susan's haste. Her aim this time lacked the same degree of focus as the first.

[identity profile] queenoftraitors.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Jadis wasting none of her advantage as Caspian hunted for his lost sword, bearing down on him without regard for the wand. She didn't need it to cut his head from his body, and that was her thought as the heavy sword came round once again.

The arrow from Susan's bow cut through the fabric of Jadis's sleeve, leaving a gash in her flesh, but the witch only focused the brief pain and surge of renewed anger into her attack on the boy before her.

[identity profile] lionesssejant.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Susan had a sword of her own, but it would be foolish to rush at them both. Another arrow, this time she chose to wait while Caspian made his strike. The sooner that they can disable her together, the better if such a thing is possible.

[identity profile] queenoftraitors.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The blow from Caspian's blade hit at a glancing angle, but it knocked Jadis off balance enough that her own sword, aimed to take advantage of that opening from above, went a little wild, toward his shoulder but at a poor angle. She snarled in frustration at being unable to get a reasonable attack.

It left Susan an opening, however, as the witch was forced to turn and expose her side and back.

[identity profile] lionesssejant.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
A retreat it was then. With a heavy sigh outward, the last arrow made a strike at the White Witch of Narnia. She didn't stay long enough to see where it buried itself, better that it did to buy them one more second. Better that they run together, she tried to spot check to see where Caspian was while stepping over the white blanket of snow on the forest floor that hid roots and uneven ground.

Jadis wanted to press forward, follow the strike to Caspian's shoulder with another, truer blow. But she was forced to hesitate when his foot connected with her leg, and then hesitate again as Susan's arrow struck the witch's side.

"Run then, child queen! Call retreat, little king! When your shadows darken the snow here a second time, it will be your deaths!"
