Log, ongoing;

When; Thursday 5th December, in the evening.
Rating; PG-13
Characters; Gwen Cooper Williams ([livejournal.com profile] protect_them) and Ianto Jones ([livejournal.com profile] king_coffee)
Summary; Gwen and Ianto head Underground to help their Captain.
Log;

Underground was getting to be a familiar place, Ianto decided as he reached the way in, knowing that if Gwen wasn't there, then she would be there very shortly.

He knew that he couldn't let worry for Jack get in the way of this. He and Gwen, would do this, successfully, and then they'd enlist Martha's, or the Doctor's, or anyone's help in getting the antidote. Then, and only then could Ianto give in to his worries.

"... has Kyle seen him die yet?"

Yes, it sounded like a callous question but coming from someone that had sat with Jack for days after Abbadon had sucked his life away, it was meant in the gentlest of terms.

There's a soft sigh from Gwen and a few murmured words that Ianto wouldn't be able to hear. She clears her throat and picks up the pace a bit more.

"Well then, we don't have enough time to just stroll along now do we?"

"We can't get too far ahead of ourselves, though. Lead the way."

The footsteps sped up into the dark.

Gwen's already poking around, her hands covered by the dark gloves she'd had tucked in her belt.

"... we don't. We have to find anything that matches any venomous snakes we'd find back home. Surely they're going to share some kind of physical resemblance, right?"

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Right."

Another sigh came from Gwen. Snakes had never been anything she'd been fond of, but in their line of work, they sometimes had to deal with things they didn't like so much.

Smooth as could be, she slipped the tail end into one of the larger specimin bags she'd brought. Once it wasa in there, she was sure to knot the top and settle it at arms length away from them before she started combing through the darker corners.

"That one's a bit on the small side. We might want to see if there's anything larger here..."

Gwen nodded then shifted around until she was able to dip her hands into the cold water. A moment later, she grimaces and pulls her hands out, then tugs her gloves off before she slides them back under the surface.

"Can't feel a bloody thing in there with those on."

"Between the frigid water and the heavy gloves, I wouldn't be able to grab anything much less feel.."

She paused, head tilting a bit before she yanked a hand out of the water, sending drops flying. Clutched in her hand was a the head of yet another snake.

"Oh, I hate these things..."

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't take your worry out on me, Ianto Jones. I'm doing this so it'll go quicker. If I had the gloves on, I'd still be digging around for that beastie."

As she fussed back, she sank her hand back into the cold water, slowly dragging her fingers along the bottom.

Finally, she shot him a look that was still quite visible in the dim light reflecting from their flashlights. It showed that she was just as worried as he was and in just as lovey a mood, but to keep the peace, she pulled the gloves back on and went back to her work.

Gwen sifted around in silence for several long moments before she jerked her hand out, not bothering to keep the curse to herself. Attached to her wrist was a long slim snake, its teeth buried deep into her glove.

"Christ, Ianto! Get it!"

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
She shook her arm and heaved a breath.

"Just keep looking."

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
A quick nod was her answer. She already had her uninjured hand back in the water, brows furrowed as she combed over the bottom again.

"It might not be the same since Jack heals quicker than we do. The marks around the bite might be a sigh of advanced healing or..." She stood to show Ianto, but stumbled a little, making her blink and catch her breath.

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
Sure enough, the bite was surrounded by smudges of yellow and white. Gwen hissed under her breath and pulled her arm free, cursing softly.

"Well then..."

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
if he was cursing, Gwen didn't say a thing. She wrapped an around around his neck and tried to calm her heartbeat down, knowing she needed to try and keep her head about her.

"Found it a lot faster than I thought we would."

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
She huffed out a breathless laugh. Heat like fire was starting to flicker under her skin, starting from the bite and radiating out.

"... yeah. Well, 'cept for the time I lost the keys in the shower... "

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Down th'drain, 'anto. Down th'drain."

Of course, there's parts she's left out and is quite unlikely to tell since it involves her own lack of foresight and the simple fact that neither her nor Rhys were any good with home and flat repairs.

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"It wasn't my doings, actually. Rhys lost a bet with me and I cornered him in the bathroom when we fell into the shower. One moment, the keys were in my hand and the next, gone. All his fault, really."

The pain from the bite didn't seem to be spreading as much as it should, so Gwen peered down at her arm.
