detaiiiiils.
Location: stadium, looking vaguely like the ring with broken columns and whatnot you see here....but larger as to be in keeping with stadium size, etc, etc. That's a basic idea though.

Annnnd threads will be made for the following 83

I. Pre-duel
a) [locked: Pevensies + Caspian]
b) [locked: Jadis + Allies]
II. Duel [locked: Jadis VS. Peter]
III. Duel [the public, anyone present and watching in the stadium, and while this obviously includes Caspian, Lucy, and Susan, we are opening it for anyone else who would be there and wants to actually do a semi-real-time reaction log. It doesn't have to be fancy, it's just an opportunity that we thought might be interesting to offer, and fun, perhaps. Reply to the main [blank] thread labeled as such with whatever your character is doing, or similarly, to another character's action if you want to interact, reacting.]
IV. Post-duel [locked: Pevensies + Caspian]

♕DUEL [public/open] setting: stadium [bleachers]

Zach's here too, watching...and also recording the whole thing. He figures it's good in case a certain someone decides to, you know cheat or whatever. Claire came too and they're here with cupcakes, however unorthodox a treat they are to have at a duel-to-the-death.

He's betting on Narnia, not only because he's read the books (several times) but because he's seen them in person before, all of them now, and has a better idea of how capable they really are, an idea that can't be entirely derived from books alone.

That's something he never would have really believed before being brought to the City.

Watching, archiving, Zach doesn't take his eye off the viewfinder for a moment, sitting next to the only cheerleader he's ever been able to admit to liking.

The surly Telmarine has no appetite for cupcakes though he is certain Lucy might appreciate them, but better from Claire than himself. Like the viewfinder Caspian has yet to take his eyes off the field, the corners twitching faintly so when that helmet had gone flying. It's Zach's similar concentration on the match that catches Caspian's attention. He has yet to greet them, at least in his usual manner, but this is not a usual occasion. Although he never turns his gaze from the field, he does lean aside and tip his chin downward to the self-professed geek.

What are you doing?

"If she cheats, we'll have this to prove it," Zach says, not moving his focus for even an imagined second. His hand is steady, even with how long this duel already seems to feel to him. But he only needs one hand for that so he uses his free hand, to reach out and pat Caspian on the shoulder. It's really informal, but that's how Zach is, and it's more a squeeze of the shoulder than a pat.

That hit to Peter's head looked foul but then, most fighting is.

You touched me is the first thought in Caspian's head because he has been a rather stoic spectator. He has learned to be a figure of leadership, objectivity, and indifference in the public eye even if it's his honest face that inspires loyalty in those who have chosen to stand by his kingship. But he remembers that Zach is a friend, not a subject, and himself a Son of Adam which is both honor enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor in earth. Caspian nods slightly.

"I see," he says loudly enough to be heard but quiet enough to split his attention between the fight and conversation. He is still unfamiliar with whatever Zach has in his hand but its intention is as good as any.

Realizing the lack of knowledge on such a thing as a camcorder, Zach, removing his hand, using it to further steady the camera, sighs a bit.

"This is a camcorder It has a tape in it, and that's like...it's the same idea as a pen and paper. You write stuff down to keep a record right? This one writes images onto the tape, or paper, or whatever you want to think of it like, annnnd that gives you a visual record of whatever you are watching with this," he gestures with it slightly, wincing as the High King hits a column. Ow. Ow. Ow. Zach winces in sympathy and mentally marks down Jadis as One of the Most Terrifying Things Ever.

"Oh," Caspian manages to sound when Peter hits the stone column.

He doesn't wince this time, possibly desensitized or prepared for it by how she struck the helmet off his head. Jadis is beyond a formidable fighter and he has no doubt that she will fight harshly. He also has no doubt that the High King will return the favor, teeth bared, eyes bright and burning despite being blue like the northern skies. For all his non-wincing, Caspian does tense his movement, posture stiff for that one second in which Peter times his retaliation. Then he relaxes... as much as he can.

"That's helpful of you, Zach. Thank you," says the Telmarine, honest.

[identity profile] filmzbyzach.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't thank me," he snorts, because what? Thank you? No. "Just keep watching," he says as if the king has any intention of looking away, which he knows he doesn't. "I think they can tell," he says quietly, almost to himself.

Zach is a dreamer. He's a geek. He's smart even if people don't expect it, common sense wise anyway. He's a normal guy but normal people tend to be the kind of people most open to abnormal things, fantastic things. That he is one such person is probably not a surprise to anyone who has been around him enough: Claire, Caspian, maybe Mohinder even.

These are stories he grew up with, knights fighting snow queens, becoming kings and fellow friends or royalty or both standing watch to give proof of these events. Never did he dream he might be standing to see one himself.

It's a little too much and he tries, because he needs to protect the dreamer in him, to watch the viewfinder without seeing much of anything at all.

He knows what happens to these people, all of them.

And he cares too much about them at this point to be able to forget that.

"Can tell," Caspian asks, curious of Zach's meaning.

The brunette is fortunate for Zach's intimate knowledge and even more fortunate for not knowing of it. There are some things they are not meant to know, some things they can never know what might have happened, and it is not their place to know what will happen. It is another matter entirely.

[identity profile] filmzbyzach.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
"That they're being watched," he clarifies with a point of his free hand. "It means a lot when people watch things that are hard to watch. It's really different from watching easy things, things anyone can see," he goes on, because it's how he feels about a lot of things...people.

Claire.

If Zach were a less sure person he would say: don't listen to me, I'm babbling.

But he just leaves it at that. Caspian can think he's babbling or not but Zach won't be apologetic about it. He likes who he is, likes how he thinks, likes the choices he makes, for the most part, and even his childhood heroes won't be changing that any time soon.

Still, he's unspeakably glad to have met them all...and a certain cheerleader, who though not a part of any books in libraries is just as significant to him, moving, strong, stronger than people might give her credit for, just as the Pevensies and Caspian are more than they seem, more than just people trying to grow up.

Real heroes are not so limited as adults make them out to be.

"Ah, yes," he nods in agreement with Zach. He has watched Peter duel his own uncle and when he thinks about it along with what Zach has clarified, he recognizes that Peter was watching him when he chose to spare Miraz's life. Two difficult things to watch in very different ways. And then there's that moment when all four Pevensies took their leave through the door in the air; Caspian didn't turn away from this, not once.

"I'm glad you came," Caspian says after another quiet moment.

To him the other man isn't babbling at all, and it's only the curse of the insightful to always have their words misinterpreted by the rest of the world. It's the connection between their worlds that makes his gratitude even stronger. Peter has wondered if their task appears absurd to others hasn't he? He can tell. Because it isn't absurd to Zach and Claire or to the others in attendance and not of their world confirms that what is happening on this battlefield is bigger than just an old grudge. The High King would not challenge her over something so prideful and egotistical. And while Caspian doesn't think they have to prove this to anyone, it's nice to know that some believe.
