once upon a time i was falling in love [ongoing]
When; Saturday night.
Rating; PG-13 (swearing).
Characters; Remy (
bangyoudead), Rictor (
alittlecredit), Wanda (
hexless), Donna + Sirja (
ofmyderriere) and Eden (
suicideslowly).
Summary; Genetic identity angst: ASK US HOW.
Log;
With the traffic in and out of his apartment, Remy's feeling less like a corpse, even if his head is still fuzzy, like if he sits still for too long he'll realize this is all some warped dream he can't wake up from. He leaves the front door open as he goes back to his bedroom to find a shirt, knowing that Wanda and Donna are going to wander in at some point, and he should probably kill the ego.
Well. Somewhat. He grabs a tank top. It's black and has a faded red x on it. Ironic. He puts it on anyway, and digs out another pack of cigarettes from his sock drawer.
M-Day. Apocalypse. The child. Xavier.
They flash through his head like a faded film clip show. He wants to take a power drill to his head.
Bad idea.
He laughs to himself, harsh and ironic and cruel, and lights his cigarette with his fingers.

"I remember you," Wanda says, absently, adjusting the bag balanced on her hip, "We spoke on the Network, didn't we? -- Remy, where should I put this?"
no subject
"Ric!" Haha, no, he is not going to get left alone, not after the back and forth about whether or not he's at risk of getting rabies. That smile has teeth in it, Julio, watch yourself. (Of course, Donna likes to show her affection by climbing on people and biting them a little, so.) "I don't know about y'all, but we definitely talked. C'mon now, baby girl, don't grab the nice man's hair 'til you know him better - sorry, she's a people eater - coooome on back here-"
Donna is an expert at manoeuvring her daughter, apparently, and between the both of them they somehow fill a lot more space than a slim-built woman of 5'1" and a one year old should rightly be able to fill.

Remy smiles at Julio. It's half 'HaHA you regret teasing the ladies on the network NOW don't you' and half 'Sorry this got sprung on you'. He's not sure which is more true. He's kind of a social bastard.
"Jus' on de kitchen counter's fine," he tells Wanda, and gives her a softer smile. He knows she's been worried, in her own way. And it tugs at him inside that she's feeling like that. What must her head be like? What if he couldn't remember the Morlocks?
He shoves the thought out of his head.

He sighs and turns his attention back to the...slobbery breakable baby, and grimaces.
"Uh. Yeah, hi, both of you. It's really great to meet you. And your...very beautiful...baby. Ah-- no mames!"
The sticky baby hands are in his hair oh god somebody save him. Raaaaahne! Moneeeet! Terryyyy!

He never told her what happened. Maybe she'll ask again later. For now, Wanda arches up onto her tiptoes, because he's tall, and gives Remy a hug.
"I told you I would," she reminds him.
surprise! ...bye :D;
...and there have clearly been other plans made, so biting her lower lip, Eden then closes the door all the way and tiptoes back out.
Oh, wait.
That door wasn't latched shut when she opened it.
Oops.

"Take it like a man," Donna orders Julio, because she might be 5'1" and occasionally more at home when there's a Man In Charge but that doesn't mean shit when it comes to bossing them around, and then- "Shit, hold this-"
Sirja, Julio may be glad to note, is not actually sticky, just...very, very friendly. And in his arms, now, because Donna's going to investigate who just tried to sneak out.
"Hi! Come back in here."
Do not trifle with her, Eden, the phrase 'aggressively friendly' was coined with this woman in mind.
no subject
"I don't know, I think I might've gotten the wrong place," she laughs lightly.
Crowds are not quite her thing. She'll stay if forced, however.
no subject
Then he's distracted by the commotion at the door. "Ah? Got a lurker?" he excuses himself and walks over, poking his head out over Donna's shoulder.
"Eden!" He grins. "Rejoignez-nous! Come in, come in... looks like everybody picked now, ah?"
no subject
He yelps, startled, and watches Donna move to call in whoever it is at the door, but his hands hold gentle and fast. As much as he dislikes wailing little snot-bags, he's got a sensitive touch, owing to his former mutation and years of helping his mother care for younger siblings and babysat cousins.
Still, all distaste aside, Sirja is a pretty girl now that his eyes are watching her carefully.
"Hola, crayola."

So maybe Eden did know about the coma, Wanda wonders. It might have slipped her mind.
Maybe she's being paranoid. She crosses the apartment to go say hi to Ric (who has been occupied by a one-year-old, looks like). "Making a friend?"
no subject
"As I suppose you must've guessed by now, I'm Eden," she introduces herself to the woman standing next to Remy. "Recent acquaintance of Remy's, and by recent I mean just from all of a few hours ago, I think."
But then she turns to Remy, offering him a little shrug.
"Guess I owe you that hug, huh?"
no subject
"I'm Donna! I never met any of y'all before, I'm just nosy." And very honest! Or selectively so, anyway. She beams at Eden. "Come in here, let's feed you or something, you are the skinniest fucking thing." She pats Remy's side with little to no regard for personal space, although plenty of warning, "He doesn't need all of it, look at him, he's huge. ...I think I attached my child to a crazy man excuse me."
This woman is wearing a wedding ring. Imagine what her husband's life must have been like.
...Sirja, meanwhile, evidently feels that Julio is her favourite person ever and she's going to show that by trying to touch his face. And/or put his nose in her mouth. One of these things is more likely to succeed than the other.

He laughs at Donna as she breezes by. "Hey ain't my fault I got fed well as a kid."
He turns back to Eden and offers his hand, at least. "No pressure, ah?"
no subject
He turns to Wanda, not quite meeting her eyes for a second, but then controlling his gaze and offering a small, lop-sided smile. There's a blush rising to his face, out of frustration and embarrassment, because-- it's Wanda Maximoff, and the elephants are stampeding around and trumpeting, but he has nothing against her and furthermore, does not desire to be comatose. Ever.
"I like her. She don't talk much and she doesn't care what I'm wearing or how I look."
no subject
"She appears to be a fan of you, too," Wanda notes, amiably, taking an empty seat for herself.
no subject
So she laughs, unable to respond to the remark before Donna leaves, and then looks up at Remy and the offered hand, shaking her head slightly before slipping in—being thin helps—and giving him a hug.
"This isn't the time for handshakes. Particularly when I'm pretty sure I'll need you to shield me from the mob in there," Eden jokes.
no subject
Donna bumps noses with her baby girl and bumps her hip against Wanda, grinning at both of them. Her high energy cheerfulness gets kind of ragged-edged and raw in places, but she's moving, talking, living too quickly for it to be easily noticed - and everybody here has got something else on their mind than some crazy girl's drama.
(She likes that about it here. Nobody's worried about her beyond the new girl with the baby, there's nobody she has to convince she's fine when she doesn't believe it herself. She can do what she likes and they can't tell her no because they don't know.)
"Sirja loves everybody, don't you, baby? Girl's gonna be trouble, she gets that from me." Yeah uh.
no subject
"Okay, everybody sit and call what you want to drink. I got liquor an' orange juice."
no subject
"She just don't know better like the rest of the world."
He shrugs at her and shakes his head at Remy.
"Nothing. Nothing for me."

While she's satisfied that he's physically well enough, that won't stop Wanda from participating in some good-natured fussing for the remainder of the evening. She also keeps an eye on Donna--for as much as they're becoming fast friends, being contemporaries in a sense, Wanda feels some responsibility toward the younger woman. Coming to a place like the City all by yourself is one frightening thing, but having a child in tow is another, and Wanda can't quite imagine how that's going to go on certain curse days.
no subject
But as she looks around the room, waving briefly at Wanda (quelle surprise), her gaze falls upon the little baby, and Eden's nervous expression softens. Not that she's a baby person, not at all, but it's been a while since she's seen one up close and it's a kind reminder that the City doesn't take away all things normal after all.
It also possibly does a fair amount in explaining Donna's personality. Eden's always heard that motherhood drives women insane.
Given that the baby's probably most at peace with its mother, however, Eden takes a glance in the direction of the last stranger in the room. He looks kind of irritated, somehow.
"I'm Eden," she offers with a smile, sitting herself down nearby. Finally, she looks towards Remy. "Orange juice on its own would be rather nice, actually."
no subject
"I would probably shank you for a beer, but," Sirja gets a nose-bump again, "so orange juice, if it's cool?"
The truth is that motherhood actually calmed Donna down - significantly - and at the very least made her something less of a danger to herself and anyone in a ten foot radius of her. Considering the aforementioned personality, though, that's probably not a reassuring idea.
Like, at all.
Eden looks a little shy, and Julio looks like he needs broken in gently, so Wanda lucks out and gets a tiny Donna and her tiny baby perched in her lap. Sorry, Wanda.
no subject
"I suppose bein' a good influence counts for somethin'," he says. Not that he's ever been one. "I'm impressed, I admit. Kindness o'strangers in this place. Reminds me of home, with less shotguns."
This is Southern humor, okay.
no subject
He grabs the glass nearby, with the juice, by the rim with one hand and shoots Remy a tight, uncomfortable face, masked by what are, to begin with, typically slightly dour features.
"Hey, if you're not too busy finding yourself a date, you said there was an empty couch somewhere?"
no subject
She knows it can't be helping anything, considering he blushed when she was talking to him earlier, so she conscientiously glances back away.
Still, maybe she should talk to him more. On the Network, probably.
no subject
"You're the one who offered me food," Eden points out to Remy, "so I'm not really sure how hospitable I'm being, in all honesty."
There's no real response to be had to Donna sitting herself down on Eden's roommate. That's just. Interesting on various levels.
And okay. Take two at cracking the quiet guy's shell.
"Even if he's finding himself a date, there are still three girls here, which means that odds are in your favor to at least have some interesting conversation?"
Is this just going to scare him further?
no subject
"I'm not anybody's date and I only just got here," Donna asserts, helpfully, and then brightly adds, "but I could make the shotgun conversation a whole lot more interesting if y'all want to see my tattoo."
Sirja reaches for Donna's glasses again, and is swiftly prevented. "No, baby, don't do that."
no subject
"Yeah, man. Living room's this way. There's another bedroom in here but I don't got anything in it."
no subject
"Odds are also in my favor that I'm gonna die in a motorcycle accident some day, but I don't keep my hopes up. I rather just find somewhere warm and dark to curl up in 'cause I haven't slept in two days. Thanks, by the way. And night, todos."
He shrugs his shoulders at Eden and throws one last look over his shoulder at Wanda before sneaking out. He'll have to train himself out of running away from her. It's cruel.
