log; ongoing

When; Saturday, March 7th
Rating; PG-ish? It's Tony
Characters; Donna Noble ([livejournal.com profile] tempzilla) and Tony Stark ([livejournal.com profile] morethanasuit)
Summary; Tony takes Donna out for a casual dinner.
Log; There were certain distinct advantages to being a human-Time Lord metacrisis, especially when the combination was no longer going to kill you. Being clever, for thing. Seriously clever, and not just possessing a knack for organizing. Increased energy levels (although she had always been an "energetic" person). And perhaps best of all, a certain sense of self-confidence. Traveling with the Doctor had done loads for her self-esteem, but it wasn't until she became a metacrisis that she really felt capable and in control.

Of course, none of those things were helping her now. Facing down an army of Daleks hell-bent on annilating the universe was one thing. Going to dinner with multi-billionaire Tony Stark was another matter entirely. Dinner was much more complicated.

Was it a date? Instinct and tradition said yes. But something had happened between him and Romana, and Donna knew, even if Romana wouldn't say anything outright, that the Time Lady felt something for the businessman. Should she not go to the dinner? Was a dinner just a dinner? These were complicated social and emotional issues that all the cleverness of a Time Lord could not navigate.

Tony didn't really worry about it that much. Labels like "dates" versus "dinner as friends" were just too complicated. He just filed everything under "an encounter that may or may not end with them sleeping together".

And after the relative disaster of the meal the other night with Romana he was glad to be back to normal and more in his element. Besides, he had been looking forward to this. Donna was a fascinating woman. Not his usual type, but that was generally a good thing. Supermodels were idiots.

Standing outside her apartment door he knocked, flowers in hand; genetically engineered roses with red stems and bright green petals that matched her eyes.

Tony smiled back at Donna, one of his dazzling but genuine smiles, and handed the flowers to her.

"I thought we said casual," he said, arching an eyebrow. "You look incredibly gorgeous and not casual in the least."

"Then it must not be the outfit," he said, smiling again and leaning against the doorway.

"I'll wait right here," he said. It was rather interesting to see her just a bit flustered, or at least not as... focused, as usually. Tony liked it when he had that effect on people and they didn't sound like idiots. He was liking Donna more and more.

"I think we shall," he said with a nod.

Tony offered her his arm and then headed out to the car (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v137/Bradwick/FutureCar2.jpg). It hovered about 6 inches off the ground and the doors hissed open automatically.

"I hope you're not afraid of flying."

"I did," he said with a nod. "It's one of the first things that I built when I got here. I have another similar to it in my garage."

"How would you like to fly it?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"You'd be surprised at what I can do with just a few spare parts laying around," he said, flashing her another grin.

"And maybe in most places you do, but not here," he said with a shrug. "I'll make sure you don't crash into anything. Come on Donna, take control, fly the car."

Tony gave a laugh at Donna's eagerness. It would have been interesting to see if she would have asked if she could fly it on her own.

"It doesn't have a key," he told her. "Just tell it to start, it'll listen to you."

"Maybe you just haven't told the right men the right thing to do," he said, giving her a quick wink as he buckled himself in.

The car started immediately, the engine sounding more like the purr of a large cat than a piece of machinery.

"Pull back on the wheel to go up, push forward to go down, left is left, right is right, and the gas and brake work the same," he explained.

The car rose up in response to how hard she pulled back on the wheel.

"Oh, I almost forgot," Tony said, pointing to a spot on the dash with a color pinwheel. "What color would you like the car to be?"

"It does," he said, laughing again as the car lurched a bit. Tony picked a color of blue for her and the exterior of the car shimmered just a bit as it changed color.

"There we go," he said. "We're all set."

"Here, just a moment..."

A section of the winshield brightened a bit, a glowing dot where one of the buildings of the City was.'

"That's the building, just put her down somewhere near there," he said.

"I think you did a fantastic job," Tony said. "You're a natural."

The doors opened and Tony stepped out, walking over to Donna's side and again offering her his arm.

"What other surprises do you have?" he asked.
