THE "VERY BREATH OF SPRING" PARTY; OPEN

When; Daytime, March 21st
Rating; PG
Characters; EVERYONE~
Summary; Is that loveSpring I smell in the air~?
Log;

Two tall white curtains cover the entrance to the tent that has been set up in Xanadu. It looked small enough from the outside, but it was unexpectedly light and bright from the inside. The ceiling of the tent has been made to look like a clear blue sky dotted with thin clouds here and there. A myriad of pastel-colored flowers cover certain areas of the tent.

You would be graciously forgiven for thinking you were still outside.

On several curtained stalls were chefs preparing finger foods for anyone to take, while waiters and waitresses circled the place with trays of decadent drinks; forget the 12 PM rule and indulge yourself. Most of the guests have already arrived in bright-colored attires, drinks in hand and chattering away with strangers and friends alike.

In one corner, a group of musicians perform Classical pieces; all happy and celebratory, of course. There were to be no dancing today, but talking was very encouraged --as well as appreciating the beauty of nature.

It was hard work organizing everything in record time after the unexpected curse day yesterday, and Blair thought to herself that she would love some hard drinks after this.

She has had less than four hours of sleep last night, but it surely did not show; such was the miracle of under-eye cream. Meticulous hair, polished make up, and a checklist in hand, she was dressed like a mannequin with her Christopher Kane, Louboutins with a Judith Leiber piece. Nothing overly glamorous today, but she did not stop herself from adding a little something.

Pour te prouver mon amour, que veux-tu que je te donne?

She ticked off the final item and made a sigh of relief; Finally. There was a reason why Blair Waldorf always had a back-up plan, after all. Nonchalantly, she handed the checklist to a passing waiter then screened the crowd for the highly-anticipated guests of the day.

[ooc; and party it out, y'all~ ♥]

Arthur arrived a bit early just to make sure that Blair could check over how he put on the suit. Armor was far more involved and complicated with the suit but he had experience putting that on. As it was he had spent far, far too long getting the tie correct. Still, it seemed important to Blair.

Not that Arthur didn't have his own motivations of course. He genuinely liked spending time with Blair and was eager to see her. The prince was in what was explained to him was a very stylish, very expensive black suit and tie with a white shirt. It looked very similar to any number of suits he had seen men in the City wear. Again, Blair assured him it was fit for someone of his station. The only concession he had made was that he wore his sword as his left hip.

When he saw Blair he gave a small smile that turned into a very big smile. She looked amazing. She looked in her element.

"It's a good thing I did bring my sword," he said. "I'm going to need to fight for the right to be your escort tonight."

[identity profile] thefutureking.livejournal.com 2009-03-21 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Arthur felt a bit self conscious as Blair brushed at his collar and straightened his hair but welcome for the contact all the same. Besides, overall she seemed rather pleased about it all which is what he was hoping for anyways.

At her compliment he ducked his head just a bit. When she loosed his collar he let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.

"Thank you," he said. "That feels much, much better."

Red. It was the traditional color of spring, what with the robin's red breast and all. Cindy had seen a lot of red and breasts in her day, including her own tonight, clad in a bright red snug off the shoulder number with, of course, with a matching pair of stilettos, her favorite pair.

She definitely stood out from the rest of the partygoers at this party she claimed she wasn't going to attend; but that was her. Cindy bullshitted people everyday and stood out at public affairs. That was her job. It was also her job to stand in the middle of the tent, downing glasses of free champagne. If she was going to suffer through politics today, Cindy wanted to be good and buzzed for it.

Kara had opted for a simple yet fun green dress (http://i.ivillage.com/BS/springstyleguide/dresses/spring_dress_anntaylor.jpg) with a pair of matching heels. Her hair was also up tonight, a rare occurrence for her. Flying was rarely kind on updos.

She circulated through the guests and made small talk with them and thanked them for coming, as was her job. She spotted the woman in the red dress earlier and had slowly made her way over to her. The City was known for beautiful and striking people but even here this woman stood up. It made Kara feel just a bit self conscious. Going up to the woman she smiled broadly and offered her hand.

"I'm Kara," she said. "Thank you so much for coming."

If you had seen Morgana prepare for this party, you would have thought this was the highlight of her year. She had spent hours agonizing over dresses and making herself up and getting herself presentable. But this wasn't because she expected to enjoy herself. No, Morgana was donning a different type of armor and gearing up for war to protect Arthur.

This would be easier if Arthur hadn't left without her. The stubborn, inconsiderate fool.

Morgana swept into the garden, smiling sweetly even as her cold eyes searched the crowd.

[identity profile] thefutureking.livejournal.com 2009-03-21 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Blair had needed to be off somewhere else for the moment and left Arthur on his own, not that he needed help. This was not much different from some of the celebrations they had at Camelot, only with less pressure on him.

When he spotted Morgana he immediately headed towards her, happy to see a familiar face. He felt a bit odd though, being in such a strange outfit that the suit was, but he took comfort at the sword that hung on his hip.

"Morgana, it's good to see you," he said, smiling at her.

Claire does show up. A bit late, but there's an appearance all the same. Peter is elsewhere, getting her a drink or finding a place to put her coat, or doing whatever it is that uncles do when their nieces throw them into a blazer and demand they escort them somewhere that makes her stomach crawl a little. A lot of this strikes her as trite, still - pretty, but trite. Underneath their feet the clock is still ticking, and there's an election on. But Claire is capable of pretending that she's still seventeen for just a little bit longer: your normal, average, everyday girl.

She at least knows how to dress herself to the point of looking presentable, hair straight and understated. Her father might kill her for the length, but he's not here, and Claire likes heels as much as the next girl, even if she finds herself more prone to sneakers and jeans these days, winding her fingers around drawstrings and the hems of sleeves that fall past her knuckles.

There is a tin box filled with clock-faced cookies in her hands, and she looks as much for a place to set it down as she does for a way to avoid Blair. If she has to buzz in and buzz out, she's alright with that. At least she's swallowed her pride enough for this month. And if she runs into the other girl, well... that's alright, too.

Placeholder because some of us sleep.

Kara spotted Claire almost immediately, mainly because she was one of the people she was looking for. She knew that there were a few, okay a lot, of people Blair didn't get along with and Kara took it on herself to make those people feel welcome to her boss's party.

Striding over in her green dress and matching heels, Kara smiled at the other girl.

"Hi, I'm Kara," she said, offering a hand out. "Thank you so much for coming."

Being new to The City, Serena is intent on using this time to make new acquaintances as her best friend is off being a hostess or flirting with a prince or both. So she notices Claire who looks more than a bit uncomfortable in the setting and walks over. She holds out a hand. "Hi, I'm Serena."

HELLO SERENA

The gala provided a perfect setting for talk on anti-deity based rumors and current Warden election. Luke came stag; not out of concern over Marishka nibbling on guests, but to quietly obtain information on said topics with minimal distraction (not always possible when a comely Bride is about).

Sipping on red wine, the white-clad blond projected a casual air as he slowly circulated the 'room'.

Blue adjusts his sleeves, and his cuffs. He's not looking too formal, but he's got a nice long sleeve shirt on and his trumpet at his side, as usual. He still can't get over having two hands; and no heartbeat. Maybe it's a little bit strange, to be dead, and in the City, but there's a relief to it, too. There's still a little bit of melancholy about him - he's whole in body, but his heart is still heavy, but he's not nearly as sad as he was. Death hasn't fixed everything, and time has fixed some things, but his heart will always be something that takes extra long to heal. But the edge is off, and Blue finds that he can smile again.

He decided to come to the party because Blair is his friend; even if sometimes they don't see exactly eye-to-eye. And he's not really tired, even though he feels like he's been squeezed through a tube, in a way.

So he parks himself near the refreshments, and shuffles his feet every once in a while.

Blue really did have both his arms, Rosella noted with a pleased smile. Not that she'd doubted he was telling the truth about that, of course, but--seeing it for herself, in person, was so much better than merely hearing about it over the Network. He looked good; she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was, but there was something about him that was different, besides the obvious. Still, it seemed like it was different in a good way, and that was enough to make her happy.

After a minute or so of watching from her vantage point by the musicians, she headed over in the hopes of claiming the hug she'd promised to give him. "Hello, Blue!"

Serena would have loved to follow the traditional garden party dress code and shown some leg but John Galliano's Spring RTW collection had insisted that she go with a longer, free flowing dress (http://www.style.com/slideshows/fashionshows/S2009RTW/JNGALLNO/RUNWAY/00410m.jpg) and, really, who was she to argue? Especially when they gave her a chance to an obnoxiously bright and gorgeous shade of Louboutin heels (http://i44.tinypic.com/znwifc.jpg). In spirit of the occasion, however, she opted to go with her hair down and lightly braided (http://fashionfeen.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/blakelively.jpg). She held a flute of champagne in one hand and a metallic clutch in the other and stood near the band. She kept Blair within eye's range and grinned as her best friend flirted with her prince.

In one of his rare moments when he was separated from Blair, Arthur sought out Serena. He had intended to reintroduce himself tonight anyways since Blair mentioned a few days ago that he needed her friend's approval, although apparently it was already given.

Easily spotting the blond, Arthur smiled to her as he stepped forward and re introduce himself.

"Serena?" he said. "It's nice to meet you. Again. I'm Arthur Pendragon."

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-21 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Rosella had only been to one event coordinated by Blair thus far, but even with that relatively limited experience, she already knew for certain that any party put together by Blair was a party that she wanted to attend. She certainly wasn't disappointed by the sight that greeted her upon her arrival; quite the contrary, in fact, she couldn't help but marvel at it. Blair had really been able to postpone something as grand as this at the drop of a hat? If Rosella hadn't been known about that in advance, she never would've guessed it from the sight of the array before her. Which was yet another tribute to Blair's talents, she supposed. Mother would've liked to meet her.

She’d been dwelling on thoughts of her family all day, actually. She supposed that was only natural, though, given the circumstances. It would’ve been nice if she could’ve been with them today, either at home or in the City. Still…the City and home were two different worlds, and each afforded certain opportunities that the other couldn’t. And Daddy would’ve wanted her to be happy today, no matter the circumstances. Besides, it’d give her something lovely to tell them all about when she finally made it home.

Rosella absently smoothed down the skirt of her dress (http://i44.tinypic.com/maberm.jpg) and stole a peek down at her shoes (http://i40.tinypic.com/wrhsgx.jpg) as well. Not quite a court gown, perhaps, but lovely nonetheless. And at least the dress was long this time; that was a familiar comfort. She wandered around a bit, looking at everything there was to see, and then finally took up a position near the musicians as she glanced around for the sight of any of her friends.

[identity profile] lady-wandering.livejournal.com 2009-03-21 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Romana nervously adjusted her dress (http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s261/ravenrants/Poly/SpringDress1.jpg) and looked around the pavilion, scanning the crowd for familiar faces. Tony had left for a moment to speak to someone, possibly about the recent election, and without his presence at her side she was at somewhat of a loss. She wasn't unfamiliar with social situations like this, she'd been to many on Gallifrey, but this one seemed different.

Perhaps it was her new relationship. This was the first place larger than a restaurant that she and Tony had been at together, and for reasons she couldn't quite explain it made her nervous. Like she was a bit on display, or perhaps it was just nerves.

The place was lovely and Romana made a note to push back the anxiety and enjoy herself.

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Tony quickly made his way back to Romana after talking to one of his colleagues on the Police Force regarding the election results. He didn't want to leave Romana alone for too long though because, quite frankly, he enjoyed her presence more than that of anyone else here.

Coming up behind her he placed a hand on the small of her back and handed her a flute of champagne.

"You know, I've been meaning to ask you," he said. "Are all Gallifreyans beautiful or are you considered exceptionally gorgeous even amongst your own people?"

It was actually pretty easy to get ready for a party when your spine-bug made all of your clothes. Of course, the Scarab gone a little too formal when Jaime had requested "something nice for the party," but everyone was a bit dressy, so it was probably okay.

Anyway, he wasn't planning on staying long--he was here to support Kara and maybe meet a few new people, but fancy parties weren't really his thing.

[identity profile] justdoingmyjob.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
Having arrived with Claire, Peter is not with Claire at this precise moment, and, taking in the nice set up, he isn't worried about her, though he does make a note to see about what sort of food or drink is to be had, so as to come back bearing gifts--something like that. Dressed in something that could be defined as some say "dressy but casual"--he doesn't understand the opposites meshing, but whatever--he cleans up as well as the next guy, better even, some might say. Peter has nothing to say about it at all, but he smiles when someone looks his way, nodding slightly as if to tell them he did notice their glance and more than that, acknowledges it. He's too familiar with how it feels to be brushed off to do otherwise, and being polite is one thing, but being genuinely considerate is another. Whether or not this gets conveyed clearly in his bearing or how he manages himself in general is up for debate, but as he strolls around, he feels relatively comfortable, and glad, mostly, that Claire came after all. She might even have fun, is his hope.

All this, and there is of course the obvious.

Hiro won.

The temporarily flying Petrelli has quite the smile on his face much of the time for that fact alone.

It takes a minute for Rachel to recognize the man standing off to the side. There had only been that brief video and their one conversation over the network, after all. But when she convinced herself that he was the "exploding man" she'd talked to, she began to make her way over.

It had sounded like his world was on a similar evolutionary track to hers - what with people discovering they had powers and having to learn how to deal with them. It made her curious, and besides - she needed to talk to someone soon or risk looking like a total wallflower.

"...it's Peter, right? I don't know if you remember me, I'm Rachel."

[personal profile] starchilde_lost 2009-03-22 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
For the party Rachel had on her "Happy Rachel" mask and a determination to not become the doom and gloom girl she's mostly been since her arrival. It helps that Kara's around somewhere, in an odd way she was becoming one of Rachel's best friend and Rachel was glad to come and support her at this party.

And it had to be for Kara, because she didn't really know anyone else here...

...although she probably could have gone awhile longer without seeing Tony Stark face to face. Damn. Making a note to avoid letting him see her Rachel wandered the outskirts of the party, wondering if anyone else she knew was around.

[identity profile] punchlikeagirl.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
When Kara spotted Rachel she all but flew over to her new friend. She could have flown over but opted to just walk quickly, smiling while she did.

"Rachel," she exclaimed. "I'm so glad you came!"
