When; midnight, April 16
Rating; PG
Characters; Blair
miss_waldorf and Arthur
thefutureking
Summary; Careful what you wish for~ ♥
Log;
Of course, the ending to Roman Holiday was a sad one, but Blair liked knowing how things will turn out and if it was changed then she would be mightily upset.
Life was a bit different from movies, to her displeasure, and she could never know how it would turn out. That did not stop her from planning every detail of her future, but sometimes one needed to plan other people's futures to secure one's own. This sometimes proved difficult; but not impossible, never impossible.
Now that Arthur was part of her life, she needed to include him in her agenda too. The only problem was that maybe her plans were not grandiose enough for the likes of him. Blair's future was filled with Yale, a respectable career, an excellent marriage, and maybe a villa in the Hamptons. But his included a kingdom, just to start. Yet she still tried to control whatever of his grand future she could hold in her little hands, like giving him that Kevlar vest. Keeping him alive would be a start.
Watching him prepare to leave, after the three-hour movie marathon, she really felt like Gregory Peck, watching Audrey Hepburn leave for good. From the living room, the grandfather clock tolled twelve times, marking the time. The ticking would start again once he left, right?
Blair stood by the doorway, fiddling with the trimmings of her white robe, her eyes on him. "I wish you could just stay with me."

When it was time to leave he was reluctant to go, both because he was worried about Blair and he did enjoy her company. When she told him that she wished he could stay with her forever, he gave a bit of a smug grin.
"Is that so?" he asked. He reached into his pocket and fiddled with the little box that was there. Now would be the perfect time. "Because I was hoping, Blair Waldorf..." he continued, getting down on one knee. "That you would marry me."

"Wait, are you--?" She paused, a confused look on her face. She had played and replayed this moment a million times in a thousand places by a googolplex of ways, but now that it was being enacted right in front of her, she did not know whether or not it was real. But of course it was real, right? Omfg.
She squealed in glee, her hands flying to her mouth in disbelief. He really had a knack for surprises, did he not? This was by far the strangest and yet the best. A thought crossed her mind that this was impossible, and that she should say no; marriages should be more than just about status. Yet then she thought that this was King Arthur and that a marriage would make her Queen. She could do no better than to say yes.
Blair took a deep breath to calm herself. "Yes," she replied, then laughed freely. "Of course it's a yes!"

When she finally said yes he stood up and wrapped his arms around her, laughing and spinning her around he was so happy.
"You've just made me the happiest man in the world," he said, setting her down and pulling back enough that he could hold up the very large and very expensive ring. "Let me put it on."

A flurry of laughter escaped her when he spun her round. It was all like in the movies! It occurred to her that marriages were a big thing, that there ought to be many things to consider, but all she could think of was that he was better than all her dreams put together and that he treated her so well. But when she finally looked at the ring, Blair gaped.
Whoa, whoa, backtrack. Why was he throwing himself at her feet like this? There must have been something she was missing. Blair suddenly felt scared that if it all seemed too good to be true then it would really be so; too good to be true. "No, wait, Arthur." She tried very hard to snap herself out of the excitement, taking a step back and looking at him questioningly.
"I-I can't-- are you sure I deserve this? Or that?" She pointed at the insanely large diamond ring. Blair was sure that there must be a huge misunderstanding.

"I'm absolutely sure that you deserve this," he said, looking into her eyes. "You deserve an even bigger diamond, but I thought that would look to garish. You deserve everything I can give you and more."
Reaching up, he gently cupped her cheek in his hand and smiled at her. "I wish you could see yourself the way I do."

--She completely lost her train of thought, and she blamed it on that blinding smile of his. Blair thought that she could just die wasting away right there on that spot, like Narcissus, only then something else caught her eyes. There behind him was a beautiful girl. At the flutter of her eyelids she could feel her very heart flutter in reply and the delicate corners of her lips filled her with excitement at its every motion. "...wow."
By now, she had completely forgotten about Arthur, transfixed at the image in the mirror --Wait, mirror? Then she had been looking at her own self. How could she not have noticed it all this time? She had wasted her life comparing herself to Serena when there was nothing remotely comparable between them. She had always been the beautiful one.

Well, he had just proposed to her, perhaps she was noticing a special sort of glow about herself. Engaged women did that, didn't they? Or was that pregnant women?
"Blair?" he asked, lightly touching her her arm. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," she said, reassuring him with a smile, even if it was apparent that her mind was occupied by something else. "We have to celebrate, pop a champagne," she suggested, a coy look in her eyes. She took both his hands and lead him back to the living room. There was a far larger mirror there, right beside the grandfather clock. Blair made sure that his back was to it, throwing her arms around him and reaching up for a kiss.
She opened her eyes to glance at the mirror, still terribly enamored by herself. It was only now that she really looked at the curves of her legs and she thought that it excited her more than they should. She could not take her eyes off them.

He started to kiss along her jaw, over to her neck, and down to her shoulder. Really, he was a lucky man to have a woman like this, a fiance like this. He liked that thought.

She sighed at his kisses, her eyes fluttering to a close. Yet she still tried to open them, unwilling to let go of the image on the mirror. He covered her line of sight when he reached down to her shoulder. Irritated, but trying not to show it, she shifted herself so she could see past him.
