Summary; When Road's and Umi's long-awaited tea party finally occurs, the former doesn't truly expect that long guest list to be much of a problem. Why should she?

The house smelled of roses and homemade bakery. In, fact, the apartment had never felt as much like home as it did on that very moment. Umi looked around and felt completely satisfied with the arrangements. At least she'd managed to get the place to feel cozy in time to play host.

Right, so there'd been a couple of obstacles to overcome, like that annoying sleep curse. Umi made a face as she set down a plate of freshly baked scones on one of the decorated tables. The damn thing had had her off snoring all Thursday long. She'd needed to run to catch up once she'd recovered the spirit to crawl out of bed. It'd been a small miracle that the invitations had been written and delivered (a miracle made possible by Ken's and Rin's assistance) and the last minute shopping done.

Fortunately everything was in place and awaiting their friends' arrival. The tables were beautifully arranged with all sorts of homemade pastries. Several varieties of tea were available for the guests to choose from. C's and Kimihiro's help at the kitchen had been invaluable, and Road had done quite a great job at making the place look more festive. There would even be sake as a stronger choice of a drink for those Umi knew would appreciate it, thanks to Misao's own contribution.

The water Knight sighed with accomplishment. Finally a small celebration to make up for all the messes The City had put them through during the last weeks, including her fateful trip Underground. She smiled as she smoothed the skirts of her dress. Nothing could go wrong from here.

"Hey Road." He had to stumble a little to keep from falling over in surprise. "You know, I'd love to look at your dress right now but I can't. Bandages over my eyes and all."

He offered up the dessert in his hand as a sacrifice to the child.

She pouted even though he couldn't see her. "But you're supposed to say I'm pretty anyway~, Shiki." She still was wondering what was wrong with his eyes but didn't ask.

"Ooh~, thank you~!" And never mind there's loads of sweets at the party, she's not turning a chocolate crepe down.

"Why don't you tell me what it looks like and I'll imagine it then compliment you?"

"Okay~! It's white and has short sleeves and it's done up with ribbons in the front and the skirt is all lacy and has a pretty pink pattern on it. I've got a matching ribbon for my hair too."

"Hmmm..." Shiki rubbed his chin in contemplation. "I think it looks beautiful on you. You have pretty good taste."

She laughed happily, pleased at the compliment. "I think I do too~!" Grabbing hold of his arm again, she said "Want me to tell you what there is to eat?"

Shiki shook his head. He never felt the urge to eat so there wasn't any point. "I'm not really hungry right now but thanks anyways."

"Then I'll tell you who's here so you can talk to them~!" Any excuse to drag him around after her.

There was always a girl within ear shot who wanted to take charge of him. Shiki didn't know why but it was a curse he must be carrying.

"Sounds good to me..."

She tugs him along behind her to take him all around the room. And she'll try and convince him to eat something later on too.

Before that occurred, Akiha moved quickly up to the two, carrying a basketful of...what looked like scones, but resembled mangled softballs at best.

"Excuse me, would either of you care for a scone?"

"I'm fine for now~," Road replied, holding up her half-eaten chocolate crepe in one hand. "What are those?"

Still striving to keep her composed smile (a twitch at the crepe notwithstanding), the yamato nadeshiko-wannabe complied, "Hard of hearing? I already asked if you wanted a scone, so it stands that these are scones." Granted, her cutting skills were still mediocre at best, so only a third of them were decently cut and spread. (Thankfully, this included the trick one.) "I see that you already have a treat. Saah, seems Nii-san beat me on offering you one. Speaking of which, Nii-san? Would you like one?"

"No~, not hard of hearing, and not blind either. I know what scones are supposed to look like." She smiled as she said it, pretending it wasn't meant as an insult at all.

"Isn't it thoughtful of Shiki to get me treats~? ♥ I don't think he's hungry though, I just asked him."
