Log;

Obito stared at the complete and well-ordered medic pack sitting on the chest of drawers. That was all Rin had with her and yet somehow the small box felt like it was taking up the whole room. He’d been grinning from ear to ear since she got here, with the odd moment of heightened concern that certain people didn’t find out she was here yet. But that was going surprisingly well.

And then his flatmates got involved.

This would not be the first time they’d slept in the same space. They’d had plenty of missions where his sleeping bag would be rolled out next to hers, Kakashi’s, and sensei’s. But their own mattress, a double mattress at that, that was new. And terrifying. How many things were there that could go wrong? Millions. Trillions.

He sat down on the bed and lay out his kunai around him, studying each one intently for which was the least damaged. Rin had gone to see Sakura to borrow some clothes. Part of him was desperately hoping she would come back with the world’s biggest, frilliest, frumpiest nightgown.

Then again, part of him wasn’t. Checking the kunai doubled in speed.

Yeah, just like a mission. Except for... oh, just about everything, really.
Rin genuinely liked Obito's flatmates; quite apart from the fact that they were Konoha ninja, and so a slice of home in this incredibly strange City, they were also good people in themselves.
And she was grateful to Sakura and Naruto for coming to pick her up, and even moreso that Sakura had lended her something to sleep in until she could buy clothes of her own.
Nothing frilly, thank the spirits - just a red t-shirt and some shorts.

---but did they absolutely have to get a double mattress for herself and Obito?

Her team-mate, whom she'd seen die and now had found in another dimension.
And also a boy who liked her, in that way.

Rin sighed and steeled herself. It'd work out. It'd be awkward, but it'd work out; things tended to be that way around Obito. Besides, she wasn't going to let this spoil her joy over seeing him again. Resolutely, she pushed open the door to his - their- bedroom and offered him a smile, peering curiously at whatever he was doing.

Rin let out a breath she didn't realise she'd been holding as it seemed things were apparently quite normal between them. Looking back, she found she'd actually been expecting Obito to freak out completely in some way or other.
"I think I might have some, let me check;" she laid down her discarded clothes on the floor and began rummaging through her weapons pouch. "Why three, exactly?" she queried, wondering if this was some City custom.

Rin nodded, pleased that Obito had made friends outside of the Konoha group. "Who is this friend of yours? Are you going to a party?"
She sat down next to him on the bed, though at some distance. She'd probably have taken a chair except the two that were there had clothes flung across them, and she still felt like a guest here.
She suddenly realised she could well risk - chance? - being here for quite a while.

"Ah, I'd like to go exploring I think; I need to know the place since..." She didn't want to offend him by talking about being stuck here! "Since I'm here, I need to know my way around."

"Yeah, definitely. Oh, you had one, a birthday I mean, while you've been here, haven't you? Did you get any presents?"
She wasn't really worried, though. Sakura-san and the rest would not have left Obito alone on his birthday.
...that is, if they were here at that point. This place was so confusing; Obito seemed happy enough about it, though, so he couldn't have fared too badly so far.
"Anyway, I'd love to come meet your friend if it's all right with her."

Rin just smiled as Obito fussed about his clutter. "Don't worry, Obito-kun; it's your place, or, well, we only share as of now..." Argh, it was going so well! "What I meant was that I don't mind. We'll work it out."

cats and babies have this power over all females; also, totally godmodding the cat, hope it's ok

Phew, that hadn't gone awkward after all. Rin was getting used to this remarkably quick; both being in this odd place and having Obito back. It felt as if he'd never been gone - maybe when she did get back home, he'd be there laughing at beating death.
She shook her head a bit, clearing away the fancies.

"That sounds reallly nice. Oh, I have to ask her what I can do around here as well, and I'll need to pay some rent of course. I can't believe that this city gives us money for nothing!"

She looked up curiously when Obito walked to the window and gasped at the cat that hopped in, mangled her team-mate and then padded over to her. "Oh, he's so cute!" she exclaimed as the large ball of fur nosed at her out-stretched hand, then rubbed against it. Rin began petting the cat in earnest and he rolled around on his back, graciously exposing his stomach so she had better access to the prime spots. "Aren't you sweet? Yes you are!"

Rin was glad to have something to occupy her as the Sharing A Bed Issue once again reared its ugly head. "Well... I'm a bit tired, but I don't need to sleep just yet. Anyway..." no, she just couldn't bear throwing Obito out of his own bed. "...I could take the floor... or, eh, well, there's room for both of us on the bed."

Rin/cat = OTP

"Sure", she said casually at the bed question. No need to make a bigger deal out of this. The cat was purring now and batting lazily at Rin's wrist as she scratched its stomach. "Does he have a name?" she asked Obito, looking across to see how he was doing with the sharpening.

"Oh, you're hurt!" she gasped as she saw the long scratches on his bare arm. "Bad kitty!" she scolded the orange ball of fur, who did not look in the least reproachful; if anything, it looked smug. "Does it hurt?" Rin took Obito's arm gently to check the scratches. They looked pretty nasty.

"Maybe you held him too hard or something." It was a bit hard to believe that the cuddly creature had done this.

*snuggles Cockblocker* awwww, Obito for srs ;_;

Maybe they weren't actually wounds, but Rin didn't like to see Obito wounded in any way. She didn't like it at all.
"Kojishi's a great name, and he does look a bit like a lion, doesn't he?" She bit her lip as she caught his eye, but kept hold of his arm; summoning up her chakra, she began healing the superficial scratches.

Rin smiled, both at his words and at seeing the small scratches on Obito's arm heal under her fingers. It felt like she was cheating Death right along with him, and she kept hold of him for a while longer than she should perhaps have. Noticing this, she let go abruptly and looked out the window at the lights of the City.
"It's different here, though; we're not fighting all the time. Here's no war, I don't need to save my chakra. I can heal something like this."

"All right," Rin said at Obito's back as he scooted out the door. When he was gone, she scooped up Kojishi the cat and snuggled into his fur, realising her cheeks hurt from smiling all the time. It was pretty impossible not to.

She crawled under the covers of the double bed (she'd already brushed her teeth earlier), pulling with her the cat who patiently took it in stride. Rin wondered what Obito had done to make Kojishi want to scratch him up so badly, but then again, Obito was always a bit clumsy.

She picked up a comic from the stack on the bed and began leafing through it in the light from the ceiling, absently petting Kojishi's ears. This was... nice.

Rin looked up from the magazine as he came in - she was hopelessly lost trying to figure out the story, anyway. "No, that's fine; I guess I am a bit tired, after all," she confessed. This whole day was beginning to take its toll. "I'll just read more of -" she flipped the manga to look at the cover "-The Awesome Adventures of Radioactive Man tomorrow."

She put the magazine back on the nightstand and scooted over to give Obito room to lie down.

"That'll be all right, we have a guard cat, haven't we?" Rin gave the flat-faced lump currently reclining in her lap a last affectionate scratch, then pushed him off the bed (the cat protested loudly for as long as its dignity would allow, then curled up in one of Obito's shirts on the floor.)

Rin supposed there were dangers out there in the City, but right now, they felt very far away. Not to mention there was a flat full of ninja to face them together.

She looked away while Obito pulled off his shirt, which was pretty stupid given that she'd seen him half-naked more times than she could remember, not to mention covered in blood... Okay, not going there. Forgetting about there.
But that hadn't been in another world in which they shared a room, and a bed.

"Goodnight, Obito-kun," she said softly.
