When; Saturday 23rd May, night
Rating; G, PG at most
Characters; Rin

Summary; Rin’s first night in the City and, by mysterious organisation from certain matchmaking flatmates, she is sharing Obito’s room.
Log;
Obito stared at the complete and well-ordered medic pack sitting on the chest of drawers. That was all Rin had with her and yet somehow the small box felt like it was taking up the whole room. He’d been grinning from ear to ear since she got here, with the odd moment of heightened concern that certain people didn’t find out she was here yet. But that was going surprisingly well.
And then his flatmates got involved.
This would not be the first time they’d slept in the same space. They’d had plenty of missions where his sleeping bag would be rolled out next to hers, Kakashi’s, and sensei’s. But their own mattress, a double mattress at that, that was new. And terrifying. How many things were there that could go wrong? Millions. Trillions.
He sat down on the bed and lay out his kunai around him, studying each one intently for which was the least damaged. Rin had gone to see Sakura to borrow some clothes. Part of him was desperately hoping she would come back with the world’s biggest, frilliest, frumpiest nightgown.
Then again, part of him wasn’t. Checking the kunai doubled in speed.

Rin genuinely liked Obito's flatmates; quite apart from the fact that they were Konoha ninja, and so a slice of home in this incredibly strange City, they were also good people in themselves.
And she was grateful to Sakura and Naruto for coming to pick her up, and even moreso that Sakura had lended her something to sleep in until she could buy clothes of her own.
Nothing frilly, thank the spirits - just a red t-shirt and some shorts.
---but did they absolutely have to get a double mattress for herself and Obito?
Her team-mate, whom she'd seen die and now had found in another dimension.
And also a boy who liked her, in that way.
Rin sighed and steeled herself. It'd work out. It'd be awkward, but it'd work out; things tended to be that way around Obito. Besides, she wasn't going to let this spoil her joy over seeing him again. Resolutely, she pushed open the door to his - their- bedroom and offered him a smile, peering curiously at whatever he was doing.

"Hey. Do you happen to have any polish on you? I'm running out and I wanted to shine up three of my babies," he said, gesturing to the many knives spread out in front of him. He began to hunt in his pockets for a cleaning rag.

"I think I might have some, let me check;" she laid down her discarded clothes on the floor and began rummaging through her weapons pouch. "Why three, exactly?" she queried, wondering if this was some City custom.

He scooped up the rest of the kunai, a lot of which were chipped or blunt, and began slotting them into various hiding places in his jacket, the metal clinking as he did so.
"I've got them to deliver, but I'm free the day after. You want to go exploring the City? I know a ton of cool places. I recon'd it when I got here and found the best place for ramen within a day," he said proudly. "Or we could get in some training? Whatever you like."

She sat down next to him on the bed, though at some distance. She'd probably have taken a chair except the two that were there had clothes flung across them, and she still felt like a guest here.
She suddenly realised she could well risk - chance? - being here for quite a while.
"Ah, I'd like to go exploring I think; I need to know the place since..." She didn't want to offend him by talking about being stuck here! "Since I'm here, I need to know my way around."

It took nothing for him to adjust his life to fit around Rin. He'd hate for her to feel left out and they knew each other well enough for her to speak her mind and refuse if she didn't feel like it. He then realised if there was going to be a party, a certain robot would no doubt invite himself along. Yeah, definitely skipping that one.
She held out the polish and he took it, thanking her. Rin was always organised like that. Getting to work on the kunai, he scooted over so she had more room to sit down. Looking over the room, he found he'd certainly spread out. "I'll clear some space in the wardrobe for when you get some stuff," he offered. "And in the drawers. I was going to tidy up, but didn't get much warning..." he trailed off, laughing awkwardly. To be exact, he'd jumped out the window the second he'd heard she had arrived.

She wasn't really worried, though. Sakura-san and the rest would not have left Obito alone on his birthday.
...that is, if they were here at that point. This place was so confusing; Obito seemed happy enough about it, though, so he couldn't have fared too badly so far.
"Anyway, I'd love to come meet your friend if it's all right with her."
Rin just smiled as Obito fussed about his clutter. "Don't worry, Obito-kun; it's your place, or, well, we only share as of now..." Argh, it was going so well! "What I meant was that I don't mind. We'll work it out."

He was on the second kunai when there was a scratching noise and a deep yowling outside. "I almost forgot this little guy!" he said, getting up and opening the window only for an orange blur to descend on him. Seconds later his arm was covered in angry red lines. "Aha, he's so affectionate," he laughed wearily as the cat padded over in Rin's direction.
He stayed by the window, giving himself a few moments to recover from the 'friendly' greeting. "Erm, let me know if you're tired ok? I've got a sleeping bag in the wardrobe so I can just curl up on the floor. There's plenty of room...once I kick some stuff to the side."
cats and babies have this power over all females; also, totally godmodding the cat, hope it's ok
She shook her head a bit, clearing away the fancies.
"That sounds reallly nice. Oh, I have to ask her what I can do around here as well, and I'll need to pay some rent of course. I can't believe that this city gives us money for nothing!"
She looked up curiously when Obito walked to the window and gasped at the cat that hopped in, mangled her team-mate and then padded over to her. "Oh, he's so cute!" she exclaimed as the large ball of fur nosed at her out-stretched hand, then rubbed against it. Rin began petting the cat in earnest and he rolled around on his back, graciously exposing his stomach so she had better access to the prime spots. "Aren't you sweet? Yes you are!"
Rin was glad to have something to occupy her as the Sharing A Bed Issue once again reared its ugly head. "Well... I'm a bit tired, but I don't need to sleep just yet. Anyway..." no, she just couldn't bear throwing Obito out of his own bed. "...I could take the floor... or, eh, well, there's room for both of us on the bed."
i expect you to, go wild with the cat <3 also lol edits
Obito stared dumbfounded as the beast suddenly turned into a delicate kitten, purring as Rin played with it. His arm stung. But looking at her smiling like that, the pain seemed to fade away. He leaned against the wall and worked on polishing the last kunai. He wanted Hiyori to have some decent ones and although a couple of shops sold weapons and armour, there was nothing like genuine Konoha-made kunai. He tested the sharpness of the blade with his finger and smiled. He felt peaceful. Life was pretty good, when he stopped to think about it.
He wouldn't hear of her sleeping on the floor. "We can get an extra single bed in here really soon, anyway," he mumbled. They would sort it out soon enough.
Rin/cat = OTP
"Oh, you're hurt!" she gasped as she saw the long scratches on his bare arm. "Bad kitty!" she scolded the orange ball of fur, who did not look in the least reproachful; if anything, it looked smug. "Does it hurt?" Rin took Obito's arm gently to check the scratches. They looked pretty nasty.
"Maybe you held him too hard or something." It was a bit hard to believe that the cuddly creature had done this.
Cat's name is Cockblocker and it's getting bbq'd
Obito hadn't been able to figure out that cat since day one. He'd picked it because it was orange and because no one else wanted it in the store. He could imagine it - all the other cats, who were immaculately groomed and elite mice-catchers, while this one was left behind, mewling in a corner, with no one to love it... He was going to tear up if he wasn't careful. But that still didn't explain why it tried to shred his limbs whenever they came into contact. Maybe the cat didn't have quite the same reaction when it looked at its human counterpart.
"I was thinking Kojishi, since he may be small, but he's got a lion's heart," announced Obito. "But you can always call him something else if you like." It was their cat now; Obito naturally wanted to share everything with her. There was an ache in his chest. Just being near her was enough, that was what he'd been wishing for for months now, so this was the time he was going to spend being grateful.
*snuggles Cockblocker* awwww, Obito for srs ;_;
"Kojishi's a great name, and he does look a bit like a lion, doesn't he?" She bit her lip as she caught his eye, but kept hold of his arm; summoning up her chakra, she began healing the superficial scratches.

He looked away. "Awww Rin, you don't need to be 'on', you deserve time off too. Hell, I'm always scratching or breaking something, it's no big deal." But he didn't pull his arm away either; he couldn't.

"It's different here, though; we're not fighting all the time. Here's no war, I don't need to save my chakra. I can heal something like this."

He'd finished Hiyori's kunai and put them in a spare pouch, ready to deliver tomorrow. "I'm gonna go brush my teeth and junk," he said, before gesturing to a pile of comics and manga on top of the drawers. "You can read some if you like, some are really funny. But, er, the lamp doesn't work. I've been meaning to pick up a new bulb; there's a torch on the side that I use." He didn't add he also read them under the covers and pretended he was camping out in enemy territory (although why he'd be reading comics while doing so was anyone's guess). He paused, checking there wasn't anything else. He really wanted her to feel at home as much as possible. "Yeah, back in a minute."

She crawled under the covers of the double bed (she'd already brushed her teeth earlier), pulling with her the cat who patiently took it in stride. Rin wondered what Obito had done to make Kojishi want to scratch him up so badly, but then again, Obito was always a bit clumsy.
She picked up a comic from the stack on the bed and began leafing through it in the light from the ceiling, absently petting Kojishi's ears. This was... nice.

"Come on, come on, you can do this. Don't make this weird between you, don't screw it up." Mirror!Obito looked him in the eye and they both agreed to try and act as normal as possible, which for them...wasn't much.
He attacked his teeth with minty freshness, made sure he looked halfway decent and gave himself one last nod of approval, before shuffling back to his- their room.
He paused in the doorway. "You want me to leave this on?" he indicated to the overhead lightswitch.

She put the magazine back on the nightstand and scooted over to give Obito room to lie down.

Normally he'd just sleep in his boxers, but obviously there was no way that would be happening tonight. He didn't even really want to take off his t-shirt in front of her, but he knew he'd get hot and she had healed his chest plenty of times. He shucked off the shirt quickly and got into bed, balancing as close to the edge as possible. He tried not to fidget. "Night Rin." He paused and grinned. "And Kakashi-teme and sensei."
Just like old times.

Rin supposed there were dangers out there in the City, but right now, they felt very far away. Not to mention there was a flat full of ninja to face them together.
She looked away while Obito pulled off his shirt, which was pretty stupid given that she'd seen him half-naked more times than she could remember, not to mention covered in blood... Okay, not going there. Forgetting about there.
But that hadn't been in another world in which they shared a room, and a bed.
"Goodnight, Obito-kun," she said softly.
