COMPLETED; Tamaki and Haruhi do the Cafe
When; Friday afternoon.
Rating; G.
Characters; Tamaki [
sparklingking] and Haruhi [
tasters_choice]
Summary; Tamaki and Haruhi reunite and sit down to have some coffee and commoner food. Tamaki makes a few scenes.
Log;
Even though Tamaki had, literally, walked right into this mess, the whole problem of his house disappearing into a strange city full of even stranger people (and demons, as he called them) seemed to be more bearable when he’d discovered his friends and fellow members of the Ouran host club had ended up in this same place.
What made it even better was the fact Haruhi, the girl he not-so-secretly had a love for, had shown up here, too. He’d decided to meet her at the safest and most normal-looking place in the city – the Café Juliet. In Tamaki’s wild imagination, they’d have a dramatic union, and they’d go have coffee together. How romantic.
Tamaki couldn’t seem to keep still as he waited for Haruhi outside the building. What if some weirdo had gotten to her before she arrived here? What if she wasn’t going to come, just to spite him? All the possibilities whizzed through his mind, before he decided to just hope for the best.
Heaving a long-suffering sigh at the memory of Tamaki-senpai's - no, it was Tamaki now - odd behavior, Haruhi made her way to the Café Juliet, where she had promised to meet the other teen. If she was honest with herself, she was worried about him, and Kaoru too, of course. The both of them were from rich families, and wouldn't know how to handle themselves in this strange city. But it wasn't just the fact that she'd have legions of fangirls out for her blood that motivated her, though she wouldn't admit such a thing even to herself.
Eyes scanning the street, she spotted the café up ahead, and in turn spotted Tamaki standing there, bringing far too much attention to himself by simply existing. She wasn't sure if it was the blond hair, the too-handsome-for-his-own-good looks, or the aura that he exuded that said 'look at me!', but it grated on Haruhi's nerves. Though there were times, short moments where it seemed that Tamaki was being himself, genuine and caring, and someone that Haruhi truly liked. But those times were few and far between.
"Hello, Tamaki-sen--errr, Tamaki." It was much harder than she thought it would, to delete the '-senpai' from her vocabulary, despite being told to do so. Haruhi just smiled and hoped that Tamaki wouldn't cause a scene, as he was prone to do.
“HARUHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII~!”
Anyone in any of the surrounding buildings probably heard Tamaki’s squealing. Back home, he was pretty clingy to Haruhi already, as she was the ever-intriguing commoner, so of course he’d be beyond relieved to see her here. She was safe, and in his arms.
Or, now she was in his arms; the squeal of delight could only be followed by one thing – a half squeeze-hug, half tackle. Tamaki jumped on Haruhi and wrapped his arms around her smaller body, practically crushing her and nuzzling his face into her shoulder. His darling ‘daughter’ was safe with him now, for sure!
“I’ll protect you for however we’re here, Haruhi! From the demons and Nobodies and the homo-creatures!” Tamaki had pulled away to meet the girl’s eyes, placing both his hands on her shoulders. His blue eyes were wide with relief, and for a second, sparkled with something that he quickly let go of Haruhi to wipe away.
“Ah, it truly has been a tearful reunion!” Tamaki took a deep breath and composed himself, completely unaware of the looks he was getting from people on the street and in the café. “So, my dear, let’s relax with some cake and coffee? I’m sure you can help me choose the best kind of commoner food.”
"GAKKKKKKKKKK--!!!"
She should have known, she really should have known, but she couldn't help but hope that Tamaki would suddenly start to behave with a semblance of sanity and regard for those around them, but no, that was obviously a foolish hope. So there she was, held tighter than a straitjacket, face pressed so close to Tamaki's chest that all she could smell was his likely very expensive cologne.
"aawreiwrwooow..."
Finally she was let go, slumping in her oxygen-deprived state and trying to catch her breath. She had never been so grateful to breathe city air in her life.
Relax? She should have known that once he felt more in his element, Tamaki would stop his freak-out fest and make the most of the situation. Commoner food? She had thought that this café looked pretty nice, but it obviously wasn't a match for the sorts of things that Tamaki was used to, things she had never even really dreamed of until she had become a part of the host club and their world. "Ah...okay. I hope they have something that you'll like."
“Anything you recommend, I’ll definitely try,” Tamaki linked his arm with Haruhi, and promptly pulled the poor girl inside of the cozy little coffeehouse. The people who’d been watching the scene Tamaki had made all gave the pair sideways glances as they walked by, taking a seat in a corner of the café. The place was quiet, except for a few people chattering away and ambient music playing in the background. Tamaki, being of a high-class, hadn’t been in a place like this before, so it seemed refreshingly new to him.
He reached over and grasped onto Haruhi’s hands, giving the girl one of his trademark charming smiles that practically sparkled with charm. Even though Tamaki knew his tricks he used on all the other girls wouldn’t work on the one girl he did like, but it had become habit by now.
“So, what should we do to get out of here?”
Seeing that smile, that same smile she had seen bestowed on countless other girls both in and out of the confines of the host club, grated on Haruhi's nerves. Did he think she was one of those simpering fools who would fall for a pretty face and a plastic smile? If that were the case, she would have fallen in love a million times over by this point in her life. She wanted something more than that, someone who cared more for her than her face and manners. That was probably one of the best things about being in the host club, she was being judged more on her own worth than being written off as just another pretty face, because others thought she was a boy.
"Anything?" It was oh-so-tempting to order Tamaki something that he would hate, but when it came down to it, she couldn't make herself do it. She instead studied the menu, trying to ignore the looks they were getting from those who had witnessed the earlier scene, as well as Tamaki's smiles. It was then that she spotted it, a secret treat that was one of her favorites, and she looked up and used one of her own trademarked charming smiles, the one that had made her a natural rookie in the host club.
"Have you ever had s'mores before, Tamaki? If not, it's something I think you'll really enjoy."
By now, the stares had stopped, and the pair of them were just a couple of people in for a cup of coffee or tea, and some food. Tamaki hadn’t eaten much since he’d walked into this place a few days ago, as he’d been trying to get his bearings straight – and avoid the crazy people, too. Haruhi’s presence made him feel more secure in this new place, like having a friend with you on a field trip. Soon, they’d have to hunt down Kaoru, and probably Hikaru as well, and try to find a way back home.
“S... s’mores?” Tamaki pondered over this word for a few seconds, trying to let his rather wild imagination conjure up a mental image of what this commoner food item might look like. He imaged it was some kind of pancake, and decided to see if his assumption was correct. “Of course I haven’t had them! But, if you say so… I’ll try it. I have faith in your tastes.”
"I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. They're really very good, I remember making them with my...with my mother, before she passed away." Haruhi looked down at her hands, allowing the memory of her mother to fill her mind for a moment. She often wondered what she thought of her, if she was proud of how she had grown up or not. They were things she'd never really know, but the idea of being watched over from above comforted her. At times like this, in a place so unfamiliar that was an especially comforting thought.
The waiter had come and gone, taking their orders and rushing back to the kitchen to get them filled, before she looked up again, her usual expression back on her face. "But back to getting out of here...I'm really not sure. This place has a really strange feeling to it. I noticed it at night especially. People seem to get really crazy, and don't seem to be very concerned with finding a way home." She didn't want to put voice to her fears, but she was worried that maybe there wasn't a way home. Though there had to be; if there was a way in, there had to be a way out, somehow.
“That’s exactly why I want to leave here,” Tamaki’s expression changed dramatically, from his smile to that of a concerned, hard-lined frown. “The noises at night, the atmosphere… everything here. It’s almost foreboding, don’t you think? I feel like something is coming…” The blonde was staring down at the polished table from behind his folded hands, as he placed his elbows onto the table, blanking everything out but his own thoughts. The fact everybody – from all these different worlds – were ending up here seemed unreal. Some died, some dreamed themselves here, and others literally walked into this place, like he had – but why?
“… This place doesn’t make sense,” Tamaki had shed all of his prince-esque façade, and his true, serious self was coming out. He lifted his gaze to meet Haruhi’s, and smiled faintly from behind his hands. “If we can’t ever go back, you’ll teach me everything, won’t you?”
It was comforting to know that she wasn't the only one of them who had noticed the odd portentous feeling that was in the air, lingering beneath the frenzied energy of the revelers that filled the city. But when those blue-violet eyes, filled with serious sincerity, something she so rarely saw in Tamaki, all thoughts flew from Haruhi's mind as she stared back, slightly dumbfounded. It was the opportune arrival of their orders that broke the spell, and she reached immediately for her cup of coffee that she ordered, sipping on it even though it was far too hot, a sharp intake of breath the only sign of discomfort that she gave.
"Ah, well...of course, though I can't imagine what I could teach you, Ta-Tamaki." The name was starting to come more and more easily with practice, though it still felt strange on her tongue, sending odd butterflies off in her stomach. "I'm sure you would do just fine if I weren't here, despite what you may think."
“Maybe,” Tamaki chuckled, taking the coffee he was being offered by the waiter. Commoner’s coffee – Haruhi had brought it to the club before, and he was getting another rare chance to try it. Of course, he wasted no time in taking a drink of the rather hot drink – and throwing a fit due to scalding his tongue. Maybe he was just too excited to get involved with the commoner’s lifestyle.
“OW OW OW OW OW!”
All the customers still in the café turned to look at the pair of them a second time, while Tamaki grabbed his glass of ice water on the table and chugged it, trying to soothe the pain. He’d made another scene in only ten minutes; it was almost a record.
Torn between making sure that Tamaki was okay and bashing her head repeatedly against the table at being in the middle of yet another of the older teen's scenes, Haruhi opted for a combination, forehead hitting the table once and mumbling some words of concern and comfort, and no little exasperation. "Tamaki, please. It can't be that bad. I burned my tongue too and you don't see me pitching a fit, do you?" Okay, so it was mostly exasperation.
Peering up at the blonde boy who was still chugging ice water as if there were the blazes of Hell in his mouth, she wondered idly if it ever got exhausting to be Tamaki Suo, day in and day out. It seemed to take a rather large amount of energy. "Come on, try the s'mores, it'll make you feel better, I promise." So maybe she could be a bit comforting if she wanted to.
After downing both of their waters, along with a refill of his own, Tamaki felt like he could carry on with life now that the burning sensation had finally left. The looks ended for a second time, but who knew when Tamaki would throw another fit and draw attention to them both – or have them kicked out for causing trouble?
“These better not burn me,” the older teen gave Haruhi a look, before he hesitantly and carefully picked up one of the s’mores. It wasn’t a pancake like he’d envisioned at all, but he gave himself points for imagining it was some kind of smooshed object.
Determined not to burn his mouth a second time, he took a small little nibble off one of the corners to test the temperature of the food, before he took a small bite and actually tasted it. Commoner food was so different, yet so… pleasing. “These are actually really good!” Tamaki helped himself to a second, as well as a third.
Rolling her eyes, a tiny smile playing at the corners of her lips, Haruhi reached for a s'more, grabbing one before Tamaki devoured the entire thing. She hummed contentedly as the combination of marshmallow, slightly melted chocolate and graham hit her tongue. Nothing like a comfort food when one was in a strange new place with strange people. Present company included.
"So now what? Should we go look for Kaoru? And I'm sure that Hikaru will show up soon enough too," she said, frowning. It was an odd thought, one of the twins being without the other. She was trying to think of an occasion where one was without the other for longer than a few moments, and she couldn't think of a single one. Plus, it'd probably be best if others were around them, especially if Tamaki kept looking at her like he did earlier. It did strange things to her stomach, making her feel all sorts of queasy, but not in a bad way, which made no sense at all. So it was definitely in her best interest if they found Kaoru as soon as possible.
“Of course we’re going to find the twins. Daddy can’t leave his family all out there on their own, now can he?” Tamaki continued to plow through the strange new snack food, but left a few for Haruhi – he wasn’t that much of a jerk, to leave somebody with nothing to eat; unless he didn’t care they existed.
Although, more questions popped up into the rather vapid space known as Tamaki’s mind; where was Honey, Mori and Kyoya? Were they safe back home still? How were Haruhi and Tamaki supposed to pay for this food? And, most of all – where would they stay? Most people in the area seemed to have found decent apartments in various buildings, so it may not be that difficult to make a temporary home in the area.
“Stay with me, Haruhi. We’ll gather everyone up and we’ll make it through this together, okay?”
Gak! Why did Tamaki insist on referring to himself as 'daddy'? It was kind of freaky, really, plus the idea of Kyoya-senpai being 'mommy' was even more disturbing. It was best to not even think of such things, because it led to strange dreams of Tamaki as a salaryman and Kyoya in an apron. Haruhi shuddered at the thought.
"Um...okay?" What else was she supposed to say in the face of such earnestness? Besides, it wasn't like she wanted to be alone in this place...though being around the boys from the host club all the time might prove a bit awkward. "But I get my own room, alright?" No way was she sleeping in the same room as one of them!
“Fine, fine. We’ll figure something out,” Tamaki nodded and gave Haruhi a rather sly grin. It was to be expected that the girl didn’t want to sleep with all the boys, especially since those twins might terrorize her – and, Tamaki felt it was the polite thing to do. Let the lady have her peace.
“But first, we find the twins,” The host club king’s tone was final, therefore sealing the plans. They’d gather up any of the club members they could find here, and try and relax in this new place. It would work out fine. And, of course, they could always open up a new host club.
