Open;

When; Monday, October 12. Early evening.
Rating; PG
Characters; Tony Foster ([livejournal.com profile] darkest0knight ) and anyone Tony has spoken to and made friends with is welcome.
Summary; It's Tony's first real Thanksgiving and Eden is cooking so naturally he's invited the whole city to crowd into the apartment.
Log;
It had started out as just a nod to the holidays, like it usually was back in Vancouver when Tony didn't really know anyone to have Thanksgiving with (Zev was Jewish, Amy was...well, Amy) and Henry, of course, couldn't eat a turkey which was the whole point of the holiday in the first place. He'd had turkey sandwiches with cranberry sauce and bought a pumpkin pie from the bakery and watched movies until it was late enough to call Henry and have some company. This year was different.

Automatically, it was different because he was in the City, but it was also different because Tony had friends. And friends who could cook, no less! And Victory was here and not a vampire and thus could sit at a dinner table and not growl at Henry when he came over. So Tony was excited and had probably bought too many cans of vegetables and sticks of butter but that was okay.

He just hoped he had enough plate settings.

[ooc:  If your character is a friend of Tony's feel free to assume he invited you to Thanksgiving.  Since I, myself, am hosting Thanksgiving at the moment, I probably won't be able to respond to threads until later tonight but feel free to have characters mingle!]

Chuck wondered what on Earth was he doing at Tony's apartment. He wondered the same thing ever since Foster invited him and Blair. Not only he was American, but the last Thanksgiving he spent in Monaco... It was safe to say he was not big on family gatherings. Fact that there would be maybe three people he actually know didn't help the situation. The entire trip to Tony's apartment, he kept thinking he should just pass on the party and take Blair out for dinner instead.

Didn't change the fact that he showed up with three bottles of the best red wine he had at Victrola, those damn rolls Tony demanded and tiny hope that this would not end in a disasster.

At some point in early evening, perhaps just as dinner was wrapping up, a face Chuck might recognize knocked on the door and was admitted to the apartment.

This time, the nurse was juggling a handful of pies and other delicacies for dessert!

It was a familiar face. And Chuck appreciated the familiar face so much more when it wasn't showing up in hospital in the middle of Chuck's mental rant... There was even a small smirk on Chuck's face, though it was a matter of discussion whether or not the smirk was caused by Thom or by the delicacies he was carrying.

He walked up to the man and looked at the pies, wondering if any of those was a pumpkin pie Blair liked so much.

"You need help with those?"

Thom had dressed impeccably for a dinner party, even if his intention was just to drop off the pies, be polite for a couple of minutes and then skitter back under his rock of mortification. Still, you went to someone's for dinner you dressed respectably and so, he had a suit and tie on. A suit that almost ended up with blood pudding on it when Chuck's voice made him jump.

Looking over quickly, Thom blinked as it took him a breath to place the face and then he gave the man a polite smile.

"Actually, if you could make a little room on that table right over there?"

Yes, there was homemade pumpkin pie in the stack!

Chuck raised his eyebrow. He considered, briefly, simply relieving the man of one of the pies and rejoining Blair, but he would no doubt hear from Tony about it. And his friend tended to be an annoying little teenage girl overreacting about every possible thing.
So it was really for his own good to help the nurse... Thom?

He made room on the table, which made him feel like a hired help, and helped to put the pies on the table.

"Did Foster tricked you into bringing all this?" he asked curiously, wondering in other people got talked into bringing food as well... Wasn't Eden supposed to cook?

Setting down the pies, Thom stepped back and neatly brushed his hands off on a napkin before turning towards Chuck.

"No, he sort of told me I was on pie duty," Thom gave a half smile. "Henry did more of the trickery, as I wasn't even planning on attending."

Have you ever seen Eden take over a kitchen? Because she's done just that; she's lost track of both Tony and Matt, and she's poring over the turkey and the stuffing and the foods that have been listed as traditional that she's not entirely sure she's doing right.

But there are enough buns and different kinds of bread to feed an army.

Bother her at your own peril.

"Ah," Chuck said smiling, slight disbelief in his expression. "It's good to know I'm not the only one who was simply informed to bring something. I don't think it occured to him we might not show up..."

At some point Chuck had to go to the kitchen. Mostly to see if there was something stronger to drink, because as much as he l... tolerated Foster, there was no way he would be able to last through the entire dinner while completely sober.

Seeing Eden in the kitchen... was fascinating. He leaned against the doorframe. It was like a trainwreck. You knew it was bad for you, but you couldn't look away.

It was on the tip of Thom's tongue to mention he'd told Tony point blank he might not show up but that wasn't polite conversation for what looked like a nice dinner gathering.

Instead, he held his hand out.

"I can't remember if we did a proper introduction. I'm Thom Reston."

There's silence for a long time, and she's cooking like a madwoman, tasting things, sticking things in the oven, and finally, without looking up she says, "Bass, if you're goin' to stand there like a fuckin' waste yeh could at least peel me some spuds, yeah?"

Even though she knows that Chuck probably can't peel potatoes worth a damn.

Tara hadn't seen Chuck since the last time she'd talked to him, and she certainly hadn't expected to meet him here. Even though the two of them had only talked briefly, she rather liked him. And his sister, too, for that matter. So she was pleased to see him arrive. It also helped that there was now someone else she knew besides Thom and Tony.

She waved brightly when he came in the door, tucking a strand of hair back from her face. He probably wouldn't remember her, but that was okay. She was pretty sure worse things had, in fact, happened.

Chuck might've been barely eighteen years old, but he always acted older and more mature. Case in point, Tony had few years on him, yet Chuck was the voice of reason most of the times. And so, he could match Thom's manners without even trying. Alright, so he had to try if he didn't want to insult the man right away, some things came with slight effort to Chuck Bass, but still.

He shook Thom's hand and nodded.

"Chuck Bass. I believe you're the nurse who saved me from Big Bad Berta?"

He grimaced at that. "You're joking, yes? Even if I knew what those spuds," he pronounced the word with slight distaste, "are, you don't honestly think I'd simply go and peel them..."

Riddiculous thought. He was Chuck Bass, not some hired help.

Tara had been drafted, and really, it was her pleasure to be here. She liked Tony (even if he tended to rankle her protective instincts) and she understood the desire to form a family in this place. She could never refuse such a generous invitation in good faith.

That said, she didn't expect to know anyone besides Tony (and Thom if he behaved himself and showed up like a good little nurse) and while Tara had come a very long way from the awkward, stuttering wallflower of freshman year, she was still a bit shy around people she didn't know. So she accepted the glass of wine someone or other pressed into her hand, but stayed mostly unobtrusive, off to the side of the room where she wouldn't butt into anyone's conversations.

His first instinct was to look around to see if Blair was anywhere near. Having a girlfriend was a new experience and he still had to remind himself that no matter the amount of flirting, he no longer meant it.

"Well hello there," he welcomed the girl with a smile. There was something familiar about her, though he couldn't put his finger on it.

She turns to look at him, her face tipped forward slightly. There's a smudge of dough trailing a line from her nose to her forehead, and she doesn't look like she's joking.

Or even remotely entertained.

Instead she pulls a few potatoes from a bag, drags over a stool to him, and presses him down. She isn't very tall, but she has presence on her side. And then she hands him a potato peeler.

"Think of it as character buildin', boyo."

While the Reston family might not exist in Chuck's world and visa versa, Thom could probably match Chuck silver spoon for silver spoon. Still he returned the handshake in a manner that was Emily Post perfection and lowered his hand to his side.

"A pleasure to meet you under better circumstances, Mr. Bass. Yes, well Berta sometimes needs to remember that we're there to care for our patients, not bully them. Did you enjoy dinner?

Well, since they all knew that Tara was there to make sure Serena met her gay friends quota, flirting wouldn't be a problem. She meant it even less than he did, if that was possible.

She smiled back. "Tara MaClay? I think we've spoken once or twice on the network."

He took the pealer between two fingers and stared at it with disgust. Then he slowly put it away. For a second he entertained a thought of getting up and leaving the kitchen, but yes, Eden might've been tiny, but in her current mood something told Chuck it would be wiser not to risk too much.

"My character's built enough, thank you," he muttered and looked around the place trying to locate those wine bottles he brought with him at the beginning of the party...

To be honest, Chuck missed high society. It was terribly lacking in the City and so he enjoyed every moment with someone who handled themselves like Chuck's peers from his world.

"It was... interesting. Something of a new experience, really," there was no need to go into details of his rather pathological family and how he usually spends any type of holidays. "Were you help up at the hospital? Did Berta tied you to a patient, perhaps?" he smiled at his own joke, enjoying himself more now than he did at dinner.

Luckily, she went back to the cake that she's making - it's clearly complicated, but it should be good when it does. What she wouldn't give for a good thick slab of potato bread, though.

"The wine's on the table," she tells him with a scowl. Wine she's not allowed to even taste. "I had to move it. Peel, Bass."

Thom was a good little nurse, not only because Henry had used logic to get him moving but also because he didn't want to disappoint either Tara or Tony.

Still, he didn't arrive till probably after the main courses had been enjoyed, a combination of the emergency work shift at the hospital, baking the pies and of course getting dressed for dinner. Because he was dressed up, in a nice suit and tie.

He carried three pies through the door, a hazelnut pumpkin (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sunny-anderson/hazelnut-pumpkin-pie-recipe/index.html) pie, a strawberry-rhubarb pie (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-challenge/grandmas-strawberry-rhubarb-pie-recipe/index.html) and finally a pie involving (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-lagasse/my-buddy-dans-mile-high-chocolate-and-butterscotch-parfait-pie-recipe2/index.html) more chocolate and butterscotch than was good for anyone's arteries.

The last one was his apology pie to Tony.
