When; Friday Night
Rating; PG-13 maybe?
Characters; Rain ([livejournal.com profile] livingmyths)and Connor ([livejournal.com profile] itsnoteveryday)
Summary; Rain and Connor Go On a Date
Log;

Connor had said he would meet her at the Library after she was done working to go on a date. Which she couldn't help thinking would be a very bad idea. She'd only ever been on a date with Mat and she'd nearly messed everything all up. Would have if he hadn't been so kind.

Still, Connor seemed kind as well and she'd been honest with him about how bad she was at everything, so at least he wouldn't be surprised?

Anyway... She'd left Gage at home and was sitting on the steps of the Library as she waited.

Connor didn't know how to date normal girls, let along ones that offer to have sex with him after only meeting him once. Actually, most girls tended to not want to have anything to do with him after meeting him and here was one that offered to have sex with him. Sex. With him.

And he'd said no. He couldn't believe he'd said no. In retrospect, it was the nice thing to do, the right thing to do. But a really hot girl offered to have sex with him and he'd said no.

So he asked her on a date. He had no idea what they would do, hadn't really planned beyond wearing a nice new jacket and scarf with his cleanest pants, and buying her some flowers. Wildflowers, because he didn't really see her as a roses kinda girl.

Or was she?

Anyway, he walked up to the steps of the Library and waved.

"'lo, Rain. Have a good day?"

"Yeah, pretty good." If he didn't count the last two hours he'd spend furiously changing clothes and generally panicking.

He held out the flowers. How she could look that good in jeans and a fleece jacket, he'll never know, except - did he over dress? Christ, he should have figured out what they were doing before now?

"Um, these are for you, didn't really know what your favorites were, so I got a few and mixed 'em up."

She liked them, oh that was a relief, and Connor smiled.

"So..." He rocked back and forth on his feet a bit. "...did you want to get something to eat somewhere, or go see a movie, or..."

Yeah, he really should have planned this better.

Something was wrong. He didn't know what he'd done, but obviously, something was wrong.

"Well, let's get somethin' to eat and we can go from there, yeah?"

He stated to walk off, then stopped, and offered her his arm. Damn, he'd almost forgotten. He knew he should have snuck a cheat-sheet onto his network device.

"So, um, what sort of food d'you like? Chinese, French, Italian..."

Please let her have a preference, the last thing Connor wanted to do was end up picking some place she didn't like. Oh, crap, she wasn't a vegetarian, was she? Not that there was anything wrong with that just...

Connor breathed a sigh of relief. He could do Chinese, and really, everyone liked Chinese, so he'd be safe, right.

He gave her arm a little squeeze. "Know just the place, then."

They walked a little farther and he realized that conversation? Was part of dating.

"So, what do you do at the Library?" It was important to sound interested in what the girl did, right?

"It sings>" Connor's expression was a little worried. "The building sings. 'Course it does. Perfectly normal."

[identity profile] itsnoteveryday.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Lots of things?" Now he was kinda curious. "What kind of things?

[identity profile] itsnoteveryday.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Like, how does it sing? Is it though speakers, or in your head, or the books..?"

He scratched his head a little, trying to figure out the mechanics of a singing building.

"You just... hear it. Does... anyone else hear it?"

Belatedly, Connor realized he just accused her of being crazy. "I mean, I'm sure they do, but does anyone else talk about it - like the way they hear it?"

"You work th' night shift lots, then?"

"Why don't you go home?"

They approached the restaurant and Connor, wonder of wonders, remembered to open the door for her.

"Plenty of empty apartments, why didn't you jus' pick one. Or different ones if you didn't see one you liked right off?"

He let the hostess lead them to a small booth off to the side.
