When; Saturday, January 16, just about 4 o'clock!
Rating; PG, I guess!
Characters; Hikaru Hitachiin [
so_devilish] & Sakura Haruno [
betterthanthen]
Summary; As a result of Ino's evil plan, Hikaru is going to be taking Sakura out to look at mobile phones for their "date."
Log;
Hikaru was awful proud of himself for taking on something like this. It was something different to do. Taking someone out on a date, huh? That shouldn't be difficult. He was a charming person when he wanted to be, and the Host Club prepared him for knowing how to act in situations like this -- how to be a gentlemen, please women, and put a smile on their faces.
Mobile phones was something he knew about, the clever, "ideas" kind of guy that he is. It's something he can use to his advantage for certain, something they can talk about, something he'll be able to help her with. Ah, yes, this "date" thing would be a piece of cake!
4 o'clock at the fountain. Okay. He was all casual, cool and pretty, just like he always. Did he want to be prompt, or be fashionably late? Aaah, such important decisions. It was a Saturday and this was the only thing he had planned for today. Perhaps he'd be prompt instead of waiting around, bored out of his mind. It could help with making a good impression, which was important. Besides, he didn't know if there was anything else to expect for having signed up for this date, so it had to be good!
Hikaru made sure he was all set to go before starting to make his way to the fountain. He kept an eye out for a pink haired girl...

So one of her friends left Sakura a cat, and now suddenly she was a cat lady. Hah!
And even worse, the chance that Ino presented her to all the people she'd found for her to 'date' as some poor, lonely, workaholic girl was high. And...alright, she was lonely, and workaholic. But it kept her occupied. Kept her mind off things like the City, like Shikamaru leaving, like her impotence at getting away, like Sasuke and her being in the same place at last, like her inability to act upon it either way. She worked to not think about anything else.
And to work more, she would need a mobile phone. Doctor Chase had only provided her with a phone number of that blood lab specialist she should have been working with.
Hikaru wasn't that bad, as far as first impressions had gone. (Granted, she'd formed them before finding out he'd tricked her into the date thing.) So, for his own good, she had half a mind to inform him that this was not, absolutely at all, in any shape or form, a date.
But she still needed to buy a phone, so they could do that. And it was with that intention in mind that she approached the fountain, hoping that he would know what to look for--unless it was a blind date for both of them, in which case she'd murder Ino forever.

Just as he was about to start heading towards the store, he stopped himself, turning to her. "Sakura, right?"
no subject
As far as Sakura was concerned? Not a good one. You don't insult the girl you're going on a date with the very first second you meet her, what the hell. Nevermind that it wasn't a date--she'd get to that--but it just was not done! Her fists tightened at her sides.
It would probably be bad to punch someone already. But honest, this was like being around Sai. Horrible. "Yeah," she answered again, after she got over her initial shock. Straightening up her stance, to gain another...oh, who are we kidding--she cleared her throat. "Yeah, it's Sakura. Thank god you remembered the name, being as short and plain as it is, and all," she muttered.
"Thanks for the offered help, but don't think of this as a date."

He could tell her buttons were being pushed, and all it did was amuse him. Sakura seemed easy to rile up, which could potentially mean things could be even more fun than he thought as long as he could help it. There was also part of him that wondered if Kaoru was sneaking around, waiting for the right moment to nudge him and tell him to be nicer to her. Eh, maybe if he felt like it later.
"Let's go!" Hikaru chirped, pointing in the direction they were going. "Have you already thought about what kind you're looking for, or are you completely hopeless?"
no subject
That way, she could still be herself, which meant she could still not tolerate the underhanded insults.
She focused again, and followed him. "I investigated, okay? I don't want some...super-expensive gadget with ten thousand applications that I'll never use."
no subject
Hikaru started thinking to himself how to make this... at least a little pleasant. Be more friendly and mature. Kaoru was always better at that kind of stuff. Being nice was always a confusing thing for him. "... So, uh, how long have you been here?"
no subject
Getting back to his second question, Sakura gave him the answer: "Around half a year." After all, there was no reason to not be civil. She was civil to a lot of boys. And men. And people. She was the perfect example of civility.
no subject
A year and a half. Aah, he wondered if she ever met Kaoru, or came across another him. "That's lame. My brother's been here for a long time too. I'd hate to be here for that long. It's only been a few months and I'm already so sick of this place. It's not fair that we can't go home when we want."
no subject
"It is lame, I'll give you that," she said, sighing as they turned to a favourite subject. How her failure to escape sucked. "What's more unfair is that we can only leave when we don't want to."
no subject
"... You mean there are people who don't want to leave?" Hikaru raised a brow, looking ahead to see that they were getting close. "What the hell is that about? I mean, I guess if people come from a world that is so boring that these curses are the best thing that have ever happened to them..."
no subject
"I doubt anyone would find curses that get you killed fun. Those statues were so very very creepy..."
no subject
no subject
Wait. Hmm. Ino had done that. Probably not the best idea to call her best friend foolish for living her youth fully. At least Ino had the guts to do it. "Or maybe they're dead. Where would they go to afterwards, anyway? Or they died here, so that'd make leaving impossible."
no subject
Oh yeah, that's right. She just mentioned that some curses have killed people -- he didn't make the connection. "You mean some people come here dead?" He didn't understand that part.
no subject
"Yes, they do. Maybe...people from your world, that are dead, arrive here, but live. Not...quite, but somewhat, they live. There are things that set the difference, I've heard. Lack of a heartbeat."
no subject
"So... people who were dead before coming here get to live again? That is... really neat!" It made sense now. Maybe people weren't just strange or as lame as he thought for liking it here.
no subject
"It's not really neat as you can think. Not if those people were mass murders.
no subject
And now the gestures to the selection of mobile phones on display. "Ne, you should get a pink one! You'd be cute with a pink phone," he pointed to the one he was referring to, of course making sure it was a cheap one as she requested.
