When; Saturday, January 16, just about 4 o'clock!
Rating; PG, I guess!
Characters; Hikaru Hitachiin [[livejournal.com profile] so_devilish] & Sakura Haruno [[livejournal.com profile] betterthanthen]
Summary; As a result of Ino's evil plan, Hikaru is going to be taking Sakura out to look at mobile phones for their "date."
Log;

Hikaru was awful proud of himself for taking on something like this. It was something different to do. Taking someone out on a date, huh? That shouldn't be difficult. He was a charming person when he wanted to be, and the Host Club prepared him for knowing how to act in situations like this -- how to be a gentlemen, please women, and put a smile on their faces.

Mobile phones was something he knew about, the clever, "ideas" kind of guy that he is. It's something he can use to his advantage for certain, something they can talk about, something he'll be able to help her with. Ah, yes, this "date" thing would be a piece of cake!

4 o'clock at the fountain. Okay. He was all casual, cool and pretty, just like he always. Did he want to be prompt, or be fashionably late? Aaah, such important decisions. It was a Saturday and this was the only thing he had planned for today. Perhaps he'd be prompt instead of waiting around, bored out of his mind. It could help with making a good impression, which was important. Besides, he didn't know if there was anything else to expect for having signed up for this date, so it had to be good!

Hikaru made sure he was all set to go before starting to make his way to the fountain. He kept an eye out for a pink haired girl...

While Sakura got there on time, she was still as distressed by this encounter as the day before, when Ino had so carefreely informed her that she had set her up on more than two dates for the following days. To say that she was frothing at the mouth was an understatement--but most of it was directed at Ino, to be honest.

So one of her friends left Sakura a cat, and now suddenly she was a cat lady. Hah!

And even worse, the chance that Ino presented her to all the people she'd found for her to 'date' as some poor, lonely, workaholic girl was high. And...alright, she was lonely, and workaholic. But it kept her occupied. Kept her mind off things like the City, like Shikamaru leaving, like her impotence at getting away, like Sasuke and her being in the same place at last, like her inability to act upon it either way. She worked to not think about anything else.

And to work more, she would need a mobile phone. Doctor Chase had only provided her with a phone number of that blood lab specialist she should have been working with.

Hikaru wasn't that bad, as far as first impressions had gone. (Granted, she'd formed them before finding out he'd tricked her into the date thing.) So, for his own good, she had half a mind to inform him that this was not, absolutely at all, in any shape or form, a date.

But she still needed to buy a phone, so they could do that. And it was with that intention in mind that she approached the fountain, hoping that he would know what to look for--unless it was a blind date for both of them, in which case she'd murder Ino forever.

"Plain? Short?" Well, there was that saying that went 'first impressions...'.

As far as Sakura was concerned? Not a good one. You don't insult the girl you're going on a date with the very first second you meet her, what the hell. Nevermind that it wasn't a date--she'd get to that--but it just was not done! Her fists tightened at her sides.

It would probably be bad to punch someone already. But honest, this was like being around Sai. Horrible. "Yeah," she answered again, after she got over her initial shock. Straightening up her stance, to gain another...oh, who are we kidding--she cleared her throat. "Yeah, it's Sakura. Thank god you remembered the name, being as short and plain as it is, and all," she muttered.

"Thanks for the offered help, but don't think of this as a date."

"Oh...okay." Well, at least she didn't have to convince him. Dates always involved a different sort of etiquette, and Sakura was much more comfortable speaking to boys from a friend's point of view.

That way, she could still be herself, which meant she could still not tolerate the underhanded insults.

She focused again, and followed him. "I investigated, okay? I don't want some...super-expensive gadget with ten thousand applications that I'll never use."

"Functional," she insisted, narrowing her eyes at him pointedly. "And cheap. That's the biggest point--for it to be cheap."

Getting back to his second question, Sakura gave him the answer: "Around half a year." After all, there was no reason to not be civil. She was civil to a lot of boys. And men. And people. She was the perfect example of civility.

"Of course it does. You'd have no reason to believe I'm rich," she drawled, raising one eyebrow. It was pretty much a fact. Anyone else would have changed into better, prettier clothes, even if it wasn't a date; Sakura, however, had stayed in her working clothes, minus the standard medical robes. So basically, what she always wore. It wasn't like she wanted to impress anyone. Her brains could do that~.

"It is lame, I'll give you that," she said, sighing as they turned to a favourite subject. How her failure to escape sucked. "What's more unfair is that we can only leave when we don't want to."

[identity profile] betterthanthen.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So much for having tact, huh, Hikaru? He was probably rich, judging by his attitude, and clothes. And so many other things that she couldn't pinpoint.

"I doubt anyone would find curses that get you killed fun. Those statues were so very very creepy..."

[identity profile] betterthanthen.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks." She stepped inside the shop, nodding. "Probably are. Or maybe they found someone here...but I don't see why anyone would be as foolish to--"

Wait. Hmm. Ino had done that. Probably not the best idea to call her best friend foolish for living her youth fully. At least Ino had the guts to do it. "Or maybe they're dead. Where would they go to afterwards, anyway? Or they died here, so that'd make leaving impossible."

[identity profile] betterthanthen.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's...really?" she paused, her eyes softening. "That's a noble thing to do."

"Yes, they do. Maybe...people from your world, that are dead, arrive here, but live. Not...quite, but somewhat, they live. There are things that set the difference, I've heard. Lack of a heartbeat."

[identity profile] betterthanthen.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, it's fine, I get it...! This place is confusing, because for the situations you describe, you'd expect to live every day as if it were the last here, or to enjoy every moment. And there's still part of you that wants to get out. So there's that doubt between leaving and staying, wanting and not wanting, and it puts you in...pretty much, a messed up place." Cry more.

"It's not really neat as you can think. Not if those people were mass murders.

[identity profile] betterthanthen.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe the change of subject was good. She smiled slightly, and leans in to peer at them. "It is kind of a cute one..."

[identity profile] betterthanthen.livejournal.com 2010-01-23 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"It's pretty...How does it work?" She's slowly warming up, even to the pink.

[identity profile] betterthanthen.livejournal.com 2010-01-23 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
She listened, nodding at his explanations. "I like it. I don't know if I should go with pink, though. I mean, I see pink every day, you know?"

[identity profile] betterthanthen.livejournal.com 2010-01-23 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"That's complicated...uhm..." Well. "Red," she said, knowing that anyone who knew fashion would hit her for combining red and pink. But, whatever, on her it looked fine. Mighty, mighty fine.

"Or green."
