Summary; Time to plan a wedding!
Log;

Weddings were naturally exciting events, and Evey Hammond found herself growing more energized just thinking of all the planning that lay ahead. She ticked off in her mind the things that needed to be done as she made her way from her underground home to the Opera House. A full wedding and reception ought to have flowers, decorations, music...a dress, of course, but assumedly, Christine was taking care of that. Perhaps V could play the organ for the occasion? He was reticent to perform publicly, of course, but he was talented and Christine and Erik were friends...it was something worth asking him later, if Christine hadn't already made arrangements.

These thoughts kept her occupied as she approached the grand building, which looked finer every time she visited it.

"Hello?" she called, stepping into the entry of the Opera House. "Christine?" Thankfully, Christine had received Evey's warning--that she currently didn't sound at all like herself. Evey could imagine the problems that an unexpected (and rather sinister sounding, at least to her ear's) man's voice might potentially cause.

Christine was waiting for Evey to come. She had recieved Evey's warning and had given one of her own; her voice was unusually high-pitched today. When she had gotten up, feeling excited about the planning that lay ahead, an enthusiastic phrase had burst from her lips in a foreign tongue. She had no idea whatsoever what the strange language meant, but she was trying to keep herself under control. Somehow she didn't think it was going to last long.

When Christine heard Evey's voice, she grimaced inwardly. Oh my, this curse has really hit us quite badly, she thought, approaching her friend. 'Good morning, Evey,' she said, giving a small curtsy (it was custom and habit, and habits were hard to break), and a weak smile. It sounded worse than she thought. 'Shall we go to the auditorium?' She asked, gesturing for Evey to follow her. 'The renovations are nearly complete, I believe. We still have quite a bit of work to do, but...it's decent enough to sit in and do rehearsals.'

"Good morning," Evey replied with a smile. It was hard not to grin at Christine's speech--it had turned ridiculously high and girlish--as she spoke about the renovations to the Opera House. Clearly, the other woman had been luckier in this curse; Christine's new voice was far more endearing than Evey's. "I'm glad to see the renovations have been going so well."

When she finished that last sentence, she made a strange, wet sort of sound and grimaced. That odd noise came along with the voice, and she had yet to figure out how to control it. It felt like coughing up water, albeit without any liquid involved, and that sensation was the main reason she was counting the minutes until her own voice was returned to her.

"Excuse me," she muttered as they sat. "I wish I could stop doing that, but it's uncontrollable."

"At least most of what you say is understandable," Evey answered, thinking back to a curse two months back when everyone in the city had spoken a different language. The thought gave her pause; while she knew quite well that she'd spent quite a while in this madhouse of a city--she still kept a tally on a sheet of paper next to the bed--thinking so casually about things that had happened months ago shocked her a bit.

This was not a day for pondering her time in the city, though--she shook the thought and gave Christine a smile. "It'll be all right, I'm sure. Where should we begin? There's so much to do."

((OOC: AR is the fail at responding quickly and promises to do better in the future, honest. ^^;;; ))

"I'd appreciate it if I could look through the clothing here," Evey answered. While she had acquired a few formal outfits in her time here, they weren't exactly appropriate for a wedding--her two nicest dresses were both cocktail dresses, one black and one scarlet.

"But maybe we should save that for later? We can go through the less exciting plans and play dress-up for a while when we're done." She grinned around another of those watery hiccups of sound; much as she wanted to have her own voice back, it was amusing to hear those words coming out in such a voice.

"Until then, what else hasn't yet been arranged?"

((OOC: Bwah--indeed. And if it trails off into oblivion, well...we'll have tried, at least. ^_~))

Decorations--well, that would be a good place to start, though Evey had even less practical experience with decorating than Christine. "Hm...If you're not sure what you want with them, we should start with something basic," she said, thinking aloud. "The colours, maybe."

White or cream would be traditional for a wedding, but some colour would be a nice addition. Something in a pastel, maybe? She herself would have favoured pale blue and cream--but then, it wasn't her wedding. "If you know what colours you'd like to use to decorate, we could get flowers or--" What else was used to decorate for a wedding? "--or ribbons, perhaps, and decorate the chapel with those."

Evey's immediate opinion was that it sounded rather like what V might choose if told, on the spot, that he was to plan the decorations for a wedding.

"I've never seen a wedding with a colour scheme like that, but I think it's a great idea," she answered, smiling. It would fit the two who were marrying and look lovely at the same time. "Red roses won't be hard to find, either." There were plenty of them in Xanadu--and more growing underground, though not enough to decorate an entire chapel.

"Besides, if Erik would like that..." She gave her friend a wicked grin as the sentence trailed off. "Don't worry--I won't tell anyone that he's fond of flowers...but I can tell you that he and V have that in common." Of course, V's predilection for roses wasn't a secret in the slightest, but that was no matter.

"I'll help you with decorating--and I could persuade V to lend a hand, too, if we need anything hung up above our reach." That sentence was punctuated with a small laugh from Evey, who was a good foot shorter than her love and knew it. "We'll have to wait on gathering roses, but we could go and look for ribbon later today..."

Evey was still smiling, but she winced inwardly at Christine's laugh. The shrill tone grated on her ears, and she suddenly had the feeling that she might be leaving with a headache.

"I don't even want to know what their conversations consist of," Evey replied merrily, her laughter cut short by another of those watery noises that caught in her throat. "Books, the proper care of roses...and how best to take care of enemies?"

This afternoon was singularly different from most of the others in her recent memory. Simply sitting and laughing with another woman near her age was not something she'd had many opportunities to do in her world of origin (not since she'd met V, at least). It was a treat to discuss things with a friend like this.

"We might want to ask at the Cafe Juliet about finding a caterer--their food isn't bad." She pursed her lips as she considered what other options might be available. "V's a fantastic cook, but I don't think he'd have the time to prepare such a large dinner--and I can't think of anyone else who's really skilled in the kitchen."

"I wouldn't call it one of the best," she replied, equally amused, "but it is rather funny." Christine's voice was, at least. Evey's own voice wasn't terrible, but those little sounds she kept making brought back unpleasant memories of truly choking uncontrollably on water.

"I'm sure we could find some musicians--enough for a string quartet, at least. Or even a small orchestra, if you'd prefer." That wouldn't be too many people. Not more than ten, she thought--flutes, clarinets, horns, percussion, strings, or some combination thereof. "If you can arrange for the food, I could look for people to play for your reception."

That left a question unanswered, though. "What about during the service? You'll need music then, and your father and Erik will be too busy at that moment to play." Another teasing grin, and then a thoughtful look. "You know, V's brilliant with the organ; I think I could convince him to play if you can't think of anyone you'd rather have play."

"He can," Evey replied. She had heard him play the organ once, with Walter D'Orneaz; while she hadn't been in the cathedral when they played, it had been loud enough that the area around the building was filled with the sounds of 'Toccata and Fugue'. "It's almost frightening, how many similarities those two have, isn't it?"

She bit her lower lip in thought. "It might take some work to convince him--I don't think he likes the idea of performing for others--but I think he'd be willing for this occasion." Hopefully, he would like the idea. If not...well, she would simply have to convince him.

"I'm just glad I can help you out," she told Christine, giving her hands a friendly squeeze. "It'll be a beautiful wedding." Evey stood. "I'd love to look at the dresses now."

((OOC: Shall we just let them go off to oooh and aaah over dresses and assume they had a grand old time? ;D Since all that's left is girltalk and stuff like that.))
