[Backstage is buzzing with activity; actors getting into costume, dancers applying makeup, and everyone's nervous on some level. You can hear snippets as people run lines together or as the dancers correct each other. The band's already out in the pit, tuning or vamping for the audience that trickles in.

Groups that have rehearsed together - the main character actors, the dancers, the supporting chorus, etc, cluster together in the hours before the performance. Afterward, everyone mills together in the lobby and hallways, exchanging compliments and receiving flowers from loved ones.

No one's aware that soon they'll all be playing similar roles when the curse hits the City for the weekend.]

[ooc: Use of set up threads isn't necessary, they're mostly there to get your juices flowing and start you all off on different types of conversations/issues/etc to talk about. Even if you don't tag in, all of you will be assumed to have been here Thursday night, so please tell us otherwise through TLDR or a msg to this journal if your character wouldn't make it, so we can assume understudies and the like!]

[Everyone's exchanging makeup, clothing, fixing each other's hair, complaining about their skirt making their butt look too big, how are they supposed to dance in these shoes, etc.

People are murmuring lines together, reviewing cues and going over their harmonies. Anyone can feel the hum of nervousness underneath the din and the excitement, but don't dare speak of it; lest you jinx the performance.]

[The audience starts to trickle in and the band makes their way to the pit, maybe not all together. Each starts to tune his or her instruments, clashing against each other until they fall into sync, playing up the scales and down again.

But that doesn't mean that can't talk while they do.]

[Lights are tested, the sound systems hooked up and the spot light room might be hushed as the pieces are put together. The crew's job never ceases; it starts before the performance and doesn't finish until everyone's left eh auditorium.

Backstage, props are being organized, final touches put on the scenery - everything has come together now to set the stage. Transition plan papers can be found laying everywhere, detailing scene changes and set changes with them. Members scurry back and forth as they search for missing pieces, inquire about what to do for a particular scene in a particular act and everyone tries to keep calm when the start of the show is just around the corner.]

[The audience has filtered out into the lobby, and the cast and crew have changed out of costume and put everything aside for the night, until tomorrow. Now they meet with family and friends for congratulations and adoration. Some might receive flowers and others candy, but everyone is happy and still running from the adrenaline.]

Anthony never worked as a backstage crew. But he assumed that making a musical would be like arranging any other event. No matter how many times you checked the cables, ran through the changes in light and positioning of various electrical stuff, something always broke down at the very last moment.

Lorne's production of Chicago wasn't any different and Anthony was trying to fix three things at once at the same time not being in a way of other crew members and actors. He was bringing multitasking to a whole new level. But he'd be damned if anything didn't work out just because of the Murphy's Law.

[ooc: my tagging isn usually slow, because RL sucks, but anybody's welcomed to respond (this is Anthony's after show thread as well, because mun's lazy :P]

Chuck wanted to congratulate the cast the wonderful performance, especially to those he knew. Dawn and Inara. But he also wanted to mingle and perhaps distract himself further from his current Blair drama. Which would be a bit difficult as Blair attended the premiere as well...

Set on enjoying himself no matter what, he walked around, talking to various people, with scotch in his hand. Yes, alcohol was extremely helpful, when it came to relaxing.

Have one Menolly, in one of Roxy's more revealing costumes. She's leaning back, her almost bare legs propped up on a nearby chair as she goes over her lines one last time. It's almost weird, seeing her so very casual (not to mention the heels and barely there stockings).

Menolly takes a while to appear, but when she does, she's pink cheeked with excitement and smiling from ear to ear. It's the first time since Artemis left that she's felt like herself.

And tuning is what Demyx does as he sits down, trying to get that perfect pitch. He absentmindedly goes over some finger exercises as he glances around to see who else is settling in. Sure, he knew these people now, but he never really felt like he fit in. Although, he rarely got that feeling, for a number a reasons, but he'd been relatively quiet during all the rehearsals and everything. And besides, while the actual musical may or may not have been to his tastes, it was just pretty great to be able to play, and to have wanted for him to be participating in the production enough to make a sitar part for him. He smiled slightly as he continued his warm-ups.

[OoC: I have had complete fail this entire time. Just assume he's always been quiet most of the time?]

Lorne hustles by to check in on his band and rub elbows a little. He's been running almost nonstop for the full week before, but he'll be damned if it shows. His suit's crisper than ever and while he might look a little anxious, he's plastering on an excited smile to power through it.

"Demmy baby! Our favorite little taciturn sitar hero!" Yeah, Lorne's seriously got to stop being so cheesy.

Lorne has been sticking his nose into every crevice he can find, and Anthony's room full of wires and control boards is no exception. Though he does cringe a little when he pokes his head in.

"Give me good news, pumpkin, Uncle Lorne's feeling the frazzled nerves now..." Nevertheless he sounds cheery - if he acts it, everything will be okay. Lorne's approach to life, really.

Lorne's making his way through the crowd; oh! Look how many people came and were happy and mingling! Now this, this was what he'd missed from home. The good parts that balanced out the bad he'd dealt with. He couldn't deny loving this job or that it filled this tiny hole that had been growing in him since he arrived. Not fully, but it was enough to sustain him awhile longer.

"Mr. Bass, I don't believe we've met before. So glad to see we rate your appearance!" Lorne's heard and seen his name over the network, and here and there from Inara. He's rubbing elbows, but that doesn't mean he's not genuinely happy for the patronage.

Lorne greets her in passing, a wide grin on his face, and dipping close to kiss her on the cheek in congratulations. "Beautiful, dollface! Gwen Verdon eat your heart out!"

Lorne buzzes by, but he stops to wink at one of his stars and lean against a set prop for a moment. She doesn't seem too nervous, but it never hurts to make extra sure that everyone's calm and ready. "Ooh la la! No one's going to say you look anything short of yowza! And if they do, just send 'em my way, 'cause it just means they're playing for the opposite, hey?"

"Everything's fine, Mr Lorne, everything's under control," Anthony assures him. And of course at this very moment he gets shocked by the electricity. He hisses, because 'ouch, that kinda hurt'.

Everything's under control. Honest.

"I just need to reroute the power through here, because the main switchboard wouldn't be able to handle all the lighting. Five more minutes and we're ready for action."

Chuck nods at the..... green person ( he files that away and decides to freak out later, in private), a perfectly polite smile on his face.

"Mr Lorne. I couldn't miss it. It's THE event to attend. Frankly I wanted to see Dawn and Ms Serra perform, I've heard a lot about it."

He looks around approvingly. "I see you found a rather successful alternative to... karaoke bar, was it?" oh yes, Chuck remembers about that.

"Oh, listen sparks, it's just Lorne. Mr Lorne's my mother," he chuckles and then jumps a little at the shock. "Whoa, hey now! If you burn down the auditorium, I'll be coming for my deposit from you. No matter how much you use the scruffy genius look on me. I'm immune now, I swear."

He should probably be worrying about Anthony's health, but a man's got to watch out for himself, Lorne can only be over-controlling to a certain point. "Not to mention I'm not looking to get sued if you kick it on company time." Okay, he'd admit he can be entirely over controlling. And a little callous sounding.

"Thomas would probably hunt you down instead of suing... He's kinda protective like that," Anthony mutters while wrapping insulation tape around the wiring. No more shocks, so everybody can relax.

"Don't worry, Lorne. I'm doing all this so that the auditorium doesn't burn down." Anthony is too polite to ask whether or not Lorne heard what he said about switchboard being unable to handle the amount of lighting they are employing.

Lorne's entirely used to people gawking and pointing, and this distinct lack of actually serves to trip him up for once. It's only a brief moment before he winks and sighs contently.

"Oh, sugar that was ages ago! Two seasons of Gucci, even. And don't make any mistakes; I'm dead broke, but everyone's briefly happy." Not that he doesn't know (possibly more than anyone) how quickly that can turn around and slide into a black hole of crazy. Lorne's going to enjoy it while he can.

One could say Chuck sees business opportunities everywhere. One would be right.

Chuck raises an eyebrow. "I can't believe you haven't found any profitable opportunities. Clearly you know a thing or two about organizing big events like this one..."

He doesn't want to dangle a carrot in front of Lorne right away, the other... man? alien? Lorne doesn't have to know Chuck could find him a job within seconds. In fact as they were talking several ideas appeared in Chuck's head.

"Oh good. In that case, take all the risks you want! Torture's one thing; bankruptcy's entirely scarier." Though now he's thinking about his play-lawyer doing the threatening aggro thing-- okay back to actual destructive fire now.

"No worries, who's worrying? Okay, it was touch and go there for awhile, I'll be honest. But look at you, you're the big guru, do your thing!" There might have been light comprehension, but Lorne's got bigger fish to fry, and he heads back toward the door.

"Hey, Lorne!" Anthony yells after the man. When he turns around and looks at Anthony, the boy smiles calmly and confidently, hoping to reassure Lorne.

"Everything will be fine. Take a deep breath. It's going to be awesome. I'm sure of it."

He would hug him too, but he's kinda holding the wires and it wouldn't be good to let go of them just yet. Lorne doesn't need to know that though.

Fred sees Lorne leaving as she approaches and smiles a little as she heads over to Anthony. She showed up late in the game of this musical, assisting wherever she could during the last couple of weeks of rehearsal. Of course, the tech stuff tended to be her best area, so she gravitated towards that.

"Me, too," she says, agreeing with Anthony. "Anything I can help with?" she asks, ready to run off the guy just needs a minute or two to concentrate on what he's doing.

[Neil's been uncharacteristically quiet about this play; it's outside his comfort zone and he's young enough and silly enough to be needlessly uncomfortable about all the singing. Still. He loves every moment of it; and it's kind of nice not to be in charge this time.

Before the show, he's taking a moment to breathe and flipping through the script to keep his hands busy. He's not nervous-- just excited.]

Fred is here! And trying to help with any of this last minute stuff before the first show starts- there so happens to be a lot of last-minute stuff. She moves from checking all the on-stage lights, to fixing a weird feedback issue on a particular mic, to 'unsmushing' a couple of larger props that had an unfortunate accident with a rolling cart.

She's basically there for any of the formal crew to grab and say 'we need this'- she'll make sure it happens.
