CHICAGO performance | ongoing; open

When; Forward dated - March 11
Rating; PG-13, maybe R for language
Characters; The cast and crew (and whoever else might stop by) of Adrasteia's Chicago
Summary; The performance scheduled 03/11 through the 14th begins
Log;

[Backstage is buzzing with activity; actors getting into costume, dancers applying makeup, and everyone's nervous on some level. You can hear snippets as people run lines together or as the dancers correct each other. The band's already out in the pit, tuning or vamping for the audience that trickles in.

Groups that have rehearsed together - the main character actors, the dancers, the supporting chorus, etc, cluster together in the hours before the performance. Afterward, everyone mills together in the lobby and hallways, exchanging compliments and receiving flowers from loved ones.

No one's aware that soon they'll all be playing similar roles when the curse hits the City for the weekend.]

[ooc: Use of set up threads isn't necessary, they're mostly there to get your juices flowing and start you all off on different types of conversations/issues/etc to talk about. Even if you don't tag in, all of you will be assumed to have been here Thursday night, so please tell us otherwise through TLDR or a msg to this journal if your character wouldn't make it, so we can assume understudies and the like!]

Fred sees Lorne leaving as she approaches and smiles a little as she heads over to Anthony. She showed up late in the game of this musical, assisting wherever she could during the last couple of weeks of rehearsal. Of course, the tech stuff tended to be her best area, so she gravitated towards that.

"Me, too," she says, agreeing with Anthony. "Anything I can help with?" she asks, ready to run off the guy just needs a minute or two to concentrate on what he's doing.

Anthony smiles. "I could use some help rerouting these. I mean Lorne was very strict about not burning down the auditorium, and the main switchboard won't be able to handle all the power. So I kinda... had to build additional one for the left stage lights"

Somehow saying it to somebody who had more knowledge than he did was, uhm... It made him feel not as confident.

[ooc: I am sooo winging this one. stoopid technical details fffffffffff. in my mind there was one big box all the cables came to and from, and it had stuff inside and it wasn't enough /nodnodnod so you know.... I'm a total expert.]

Fred grins as she sees the newly-made switch board. "Oh, this is great! I knew we were pushing it with that much power on a 3-phase system and one main board. If we just use one phase for the left lights and drop it through here, that'll split the load nicely." She tends to ramble when she's excited.

"Here, I'll get a distro box set up at the head of it, working as kind of a splitter so we can bypass the whole switchboard entirely? I think we had an extra one sitting around somewhere." She's really having fun with this part. Who know electromagnetic theory could be so nicely practical? "Thanks for putting this together." And with that she's rummaging around, looking for the proper parts to get this properly working.

[ooc: Ahaha, me too. I've never done stage crew stuff in my life. I...googled (http://www.onstagelighting.co.uk/learn-stage-lighting/stage-electrics-lighting-distro-for-dummies/) and this technobabble is the result. >__> Hope I don't make any tech people cry to read this. XD ]

Anthony falls in love a little right there ad then. And grins happily. Finally somebody who knows what he's doing. Yes, she uses bigger words than he would ever, but still. She gets what he's trying to do here and why.

"It's nothing. It's what Lorne hired me for, right?" He smiles, embarrassed.

"You think we can manage it all before the show?"

His grin gets a slightly wider smile from Fred in return. "I'm sure it is," she replies. She has a couple thoughts wondering about 'grinning feedback' before her attention returns completely to the little electrical gadget she's setting up near the wall. "Although I doubt that job description included building new equipment right before the show. That's sorta an extra level of impressive."

To his question, she replies, "Of course we can. Nothing to it, with so many nerds on the job." She winks at him, pushes her glasses back up her nose, and stands back up. "That oughta do it."

"Well... I got hired to fix stuff. I'm fixing stuff..." He really does consider building a whole new equipment 'nothing', just part of the job... It was obvious he got slightly embarassed by the compliment, because well... It's one thing to hear the car you built was awesome, and another to hear something you knew little about anyway was impressive. Honestly, he was just improvising...

"Good. I don't think Lorne would be able to handle a crisis right now..."

She just nods at him, finally catching on that he might be a bit embarrassed. She won't argue him into discrediting his own work.

"Oh, no. I mean, he'd handle it, but I have a feeling it wouldn't be pretty." Fred's never actually been on Lorne's bad side (well...she doesn't count the no-sleep monster), but she has very occasionally seen it peek out from under his collar. A crisis right now would be no good. "And this'll keep him from having to worry about fires." She nods, pleased with the setup. "I'll leave you to the new switchboard. Is there anything else I can help re-set? I wouldn't think you'd have to change around the left light setup much here, if at all."
