When; March 24th, evening
Rating; PG-13 to R? After all, these are Watchmen characters.
Characters; Laurie (
tight_latex ) and Adrian (
caughtthebullet )
Summary; Laurie found out what Adrian did back at home, and she has a bit of a temper. She's going to go through with her threatand probably get her ass kicked.
Log;
For someone who claimed that the Keene Act was the best thing that ever happened, Laurie has no problem slipping in to her old habits. Well, she did have a problem slipping in to her old costume, but the whole femme fatale look was never quite her thing. If she had designed her costume rather than her mother, she would have gone for something protective and sensible, and not give a damn about sex appeal. However, she decided to don her costume this evening because it was the one outfit she could fight in, the one outfit that made sense, the one outfit where she could conceal a weapon lord knows where. She didn't plan on getting down and dirty, or even getting one spot of blood on her costume. If anything, this act of aggression would be solved with one simple bullet to the head.
Laurie was pissed, and in the mood to listen to that itchy trigger finger of hers. That asshole deserved it. Adrian had always rubbed her the wrong way. There was just something about him that made Laurie automatically dislike him. Maybe she was holding a grudge that all his work took Jon away from her. Maybe it was something else, but for now, it was because, according to Dan, he killed thousands, if not millions of people and used Jon as a scapegoat, all for the sake of a 'better world'.
Yeah, a better world built off of a sickening lie. Just thinking about it made her stomach churn.
So here she was, wearing a long jacket over her costume so not to draw attention to herself, standing outside the Palace with her hand resting on the gun in her jacket pocket. She was waiting for him, waiting for a clear shot, and as soon as that bullet of hers hit his smarmy face, she'd feel a lot better. All that built up agitation would just go away, and it would be one asshole down.
It might not stop whatever happened back at home from happening, but it definitely would make Laurie feel a whole hell of a lot better knowing that she went through with her threat.

Some people called that arrogance on his part but Adrian believed it could never be separated from what inherently made Ozymandias, bringer of a new era of stability to what could have been a dying world.
That same self-righteous manner didn't ooze from the fine tailoring of his impeccable silk and wool suit with each step he took down from the Palace's front entrance, but Silk Spectre knew better, didn't she? Unaware--seemingly in any case--of her presence, he paused in the middle of the short flight of marble steps to check his watch. Yes, he was taking his time leaving the place however Dan and Rorschach in particular knew very intimately how well Adrian Veidt could manage his time.

Her confidence was high, the rising aggression that bubbled at the sight of him raised her cockiness and itch to fight. Nevertheless, she instinctively drew back, towards some shrubbery, barely making a sound as she grasped at the surrounding shadow of the evening. Her breath was bated, and she slowly took the revolver out of her jacket pocket, waiting for him to hurry the fuck up and get in a good position for her to shoot. The gun only had so many bullets, and one shot was all she needed...better make it count. She wasn't much of an assassin type, and she was well aware of how Adrian was able to fend off his first assassination attempt. But that wasn't her firing the gun now, was it?
As soon as his feet hit the ground she'll shoot. She'd stand here for the rest of the evening if she had to, but as soon as he descends from those steps, she's shooting, no holding back.

Adrian rolled his sleeve down then settled onto the last step. He became well aware of his surroundings a half step back but made no other expression of showing he knew he was being watched. Why greet Laurie when he believed she wasn't going to accept a 'hello' anyway? That she wasn't here for 'hellos' occurred to him too considering their last conversation, yet far be it for Adrian Veidt to presume so vocally. That would be rude. Removing his jacket served two purposes: to feel the cooler air--sharpening his senses--and to wave as a guard should she attack as one would a charging beast. Aggression afflicted people in such an uncivil way, he would say, even women. He lifted off the last step and touched the ground.

She was too concerned with her bitter agitation to consider that he knew she was watching him. Laurie, although smart, never quite had the eye for detail. She often skimmed over things, her mind too much in a hurry, never really bothering to relax or look certain things over. Her expression tightened, her lips forming a straight line as she chewed on her lower lip for a second. The fluttering sound of him removing his jacket caught her attention, and she took a step. As soon as he made his final step, she positioned herself at the ready, moving away from the bushes and pointing the gun at his exposed self. In a flurry of motion she aimed at his temple and pulled the trigger. Considering how rarely she used weapons, Laurie had a decently good shot.

Two seconds.
The count was only in his head but it was crucial to timing, synchronizing his own movements with that of a bullet entering a chamber and the strike that sent it firing through the barrel.
One.
Adrian whipped the blazer in a circular motion, attempting to twist it around Laurie's arm as a distraction and to deflect her aim. He ducked under the line of fire too, preferring this over a hole in his hand because wearing kevlar gloves to casual affairs is tacky. He could admit he felt the round take off the ends of a few blond strands if asked but he was confident enough in not getting killed, that was all that mattered. Whether Adrian managed to tangle her arm or not, he kicked out towards her torso, hard and unforgiving.

"Shit."
She grunted, struggling still and accidentally fired another round off into the surrounding area. Her breath was knocked out of her as he kicked, and there was a gasp as her knees buckled from the impact. That'll leave a bruise. Her throat tensed up, choking back pain and shock as she continued to try and untangle herself, but she was no longer thrashing against his jacket. To do so would probably mean a dislocated shoulder, and that was the last thing she needed.

"Laurie," Adrian said coolly, settling back into a more defensive state.
He wouldn't call her Silk Spectre now although he had an opinion or two on her choice of boots. He always had. And then, pre-emptively, he kicked again in an attempt to knock the gun from her hand. He could have brought his heel back to snap a second one to her face but refrains from it. That was beneath Ozymandias, even he could see one of her assets was her beauty. Perhaps in a way he felt that very same attitude, so similar to her mother's, would be equally upsetting to Laurie.

"You fucking asshole," was all she could say, her voice strained as she tried to regain her breath.
She continued to clutch her revolver, not letting go even as he kicked her, letting her knuckles bruise. Had he mentioned anything about her mother, she would have gone into a hissy fit. She wasn't her mother's biggest fan, so if he had commented on how her attitude matched her mother's, Laurie would have thrown something equivalent to a grown-up tantrum. She wasn't her mother. That sex appeal thing was all Sally's idea, not hers. If Laurie had the choice she would have worn a fucking mask over her face.
Still on the ground, she continued to glare at up at Adrian, refusing to even think of him as his superhero identity. She was beyond that, vigilantism was long over. That thing with Dan and the fire was a one time thing...okay, two time thing since breaking Rorschach out of prison counted. She'll ignore the adrenaline rush. The man standing before her might wish he was Ozymandias, king of kings, but Laurie knew him as Adrian, the Watchmen member who sold out.
Instead of getting up, Laurie takes advantage of her long legs and attempts to wrap them around Adrian's legs, thrusting her hips and weight to try and bring that bastard down with her and pin him down.
Hopefully she could at least mess up his expensive outfit.

Just when he was about to say more though he caught the sudden tension that spoke of a counterattack. Jumping up cleared everything but his heel, forcing Adrian off-balance. His landing was less than smooth, scraping a knee when he rolled back up into a three point stance. A bullet hole could be masked, ragged seams? Unacceptable. Mirroring her own speed, Adrian whipped forward to grab at her gun hand again, pulling inward along his own side. With both of them closer to the ground, he had every intention of using his weight--not as heavy as the likes of Dan or Eddie, but heavier than Laurie at least--to his advantage. If he had the opportunity to pin her down under a knee, he'd take it. But he continued to take the sanctity of her face into consideration.

When her attack didn't go as planned, Laurie attempted to get up. Being on the ground while your opponent was still somewhat standing was never a good move. She had rose to a squat, aiming her gun at Adrian again as he recovered from his minor trip up. Bad move on her part, for she felt him grab out at her, and the gun was gone, her grip slipping up. And thanks to her gloves, she couldn't blame sweat for the screw up. There was another grunt, and she had an inkling Adrian would try the same thing she had tried. Laurie wanted to avoid being the one pinned down. Compared to Dan, Jon, and the Comedian, Adrian was a lightweight (and Laurie only had the pleasure of having two of the three come down on top of her, though anyone with eyes and sense could tell that Eddie had a lot of weight on him), but Laurie, having the disadvantage of possessing the weight of only a well-built woman, was the lightest of them all.
But there was no way in hell she'd let herself get pinned down. Laurie attempted to pull her knees towards her chest, kicking out as hard as possible at Adrian's gut to get him away from her. Her boots might be tacky, but at least they'd hurt if they made contact. "You wouldn't know how to pin a woman down even if you wanted to," she growled between clenched teeth. Yes, she was hinting at Adrian's homosexuality, but I never said she was mindful of political correctness all the time.

Having the gun in his possession, Adrian knew he had the upperhand, at least in terms of his own safety. He was a bit mixed on whether Laurie had the balls to actually kill him, to have his cold blood on her hands, but he also knew better than to take his chances on the woman who came close to point blank range not once but twice. Was she aware how their dance at the steps of the Palace was history repeating itself? He didn't think so but even if Laurie was he highly doubted her ability to take irony as a joke. A morbid sense of humor wasn't genetic really, or was it? Not that he knew who her real father was either. Speaking of him though, as built like a linebacker as Eddie was, Adrian still tossed him through a window with ease. That was one of the moments in his life which truly felt personally satisfying, as if it made up for a grudge forged almost thirty years ago when the Comedian left a nineteen year old Ozymandias beaten down.
"Nngh," Adrian sounded. Only the rest of his clothes kept her heels from breaking skin and puncturing vital organs. For all the ire Laurie seemed to hold against her mother, she absolutely knew what worked to her advantage about them. Tacky but deadly. To keep from stumbling on a rebound the blond raised his hand to brace the ground, doing a full backflip then landing on his feet firmly. His jacket was lost in the process, now laying discarded on the ground, pity. But now they had greater distance between them.
"That's petty of you, Laurie," he said in between huffs of breath. Referring to his presumed sexuality was hitting below the belt in more ways than one. The sweat he'd broken was only a light sheen on his forehead, but there was no doubt Silk Spectre, Laurie Juspeczyk, was the cause. Without taking his eyes off her he worked in opening the firearm to empty it of its bullets in the palm of his hand. "Are there any other issues you wish to bring to my attention?" If she felt his tone was patronizing, well, Adrian wouldn't deny it.

She was satisfied that her boots mad contact, and she placed her hands on the ground at each side of her head, rolling even further back as she did a kip up to regain her footing. She rose, slipping off her dirtied jacket as she did so, exposing the rest of her outfit. Laurie stood at the ready, widening her stance and bringing her fists up as she eyeballed Adrian for his next move. That was her gun her was emptying...okay, not really, but still. It had been in her possession for awhile and was the only weapon she had on her, so therefore it was her gun. Her breathing was heavy, and her bangs were sticking to her forehead, a trickle of sweat rolled down her cheek.
Her adrenaline was already pumping, and she wasn't in a hurry to end this fight, even though Adrian was starting to patronize her. How dare he. Laurie still had plenty of issues she should probably air out, like her supposed Electra complex due to a lack of a father figure in her life, and her issues with her overbearing mother. The fact that she might be living in denial about not wanting to put on a costume and fight crime, and, oh, a plethora of other problems stemming off the fact that she was a Watchmen character. But relatively speaking, Laurie was still the most normal of them all, and all of the aforementioned problems were none of Adrian's fucking business.
"I think we covered everything already." She was still anticipating some time of retaliation from Adrian. He wasn't the kind of person who'd just walk away from a fight...was he? Oh, right, he was supposed to be a pacifist.

"Then I think it's time we part ways," the blond replied, keeping his voice low for only Laurie and himself.
He wouldn't allow himself to show any emotion at this point, neither satisfaction nor disappointment at another violent attempt on his life. What was this one? Attempt #3? By members of his own team too because obviously Mr. Chess' didn't count.
