When; Wednesday afternoon and evening
Rating; PG-13?
Characters; Several
Summary; Sam hosts a beach party for anyone who wants to come
Log;

Sam had tried to do everything he could to make the beach trip as fun as possible, especially considering all that had happened recently. Not everyone had calmed down after yesterday, but it was enough that he didn't cancel the trip.

He had volleyball set up, a dozen umbrellas for the more fair skinned to take refuge under, and a really ugly couch to put in a bonfire later.

Food and drink also abounded, including enough electrolyte replenishing drinks to help anyone who drank all the alcohol he brought stave off too massive of a hangover. All in all, it was a recipe for a good time. Or at least Sam hoped.

"I like it."

She looks around, at the people that she can hear outside and inside her head, and this new person.

"People have been nice so far."

Arkady seems a bit... off? Distant? Penny wonders if it's the vodka or something else. It doesn't matter either way. Most people here are a bit off. Anyway, Arkady seems nice. "They usually are. This's a good place to be... I mean, as far as company goes. Maybe not so much for the curses."

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-05-30 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmmmm." She's heard of the curses, it's like the Deities are like Mark. Getting in people's heads, making them their army.

Only a lot sillier.

"It's not right to make others do what you want them to. Not if they don't want to."

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not," Penny agrees, not sounding all that bothered by it. "The curses are definitely violations of our rights. I don't know if the deities have that much choice in what they're doing, though. They act like it's their jobs, not something they do for kicks."

"Doesn't matter. People need to say no."

She considers, knowing how broken some of the people back home are.

"Has anyone told the Deities that they can say no?"

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Penny shakes her head slowly. "I don't think so. I've been meaning to write them a letter of complaint... you know, tell them that what they're doing is wrong. I don't know if it'd do any good, though."

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Letters get lost."

She takes a drink.

"Meetings are better."

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
"You're right. Maybe there should be a meeting." She seems enthusiastic, if uncertain, about the prospect. "I've never heard of them having real sit-down meetings with any of us. What do you think it'd take to get that?"

She blinks a few times, looking at Penny. Was she really asking Arkady for advise?

"Ask... them? I ask for things when I need them."

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
"And we need to not have the deities treating us the way they do," she replies. Her enthusiasm wavers. "...Or maybe it's better not to bother them. They get irritated pretty easily."

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
"That's not good."

She takes another swig, feeling pleasantly mellow. Perhaps she'll go back to looking for the others.

"But if there's a lot of people, isn't it hard to be angry at all of them?"

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Penny shrugs, sort of wishing she could be as calm and detached as Arkady seems. "The deities seem to do the being-angry-at-everyone thing okay... but that's too serious. Who wants to talk about angry god-people at a beach party?"

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh." She offers the bottle again. "Drinking, then?"

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-06-04 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
"No, but thank you," Penny declines. "Drinking definitely beats out angry gods, but showing up at work with a hangover wouldn't be too great."

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-06-05 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
She considers for a moment, then takes another drink. "I don't work."

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-06-05 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Then nothing to worry about there! Do you get money from the City?"
