When; July 1; Afternoon [BACKDATED]
Rating; G
Characters; Tyr McDohl [[livejournal.com profile] stargathering] and Connell [[livejournal.com profile] sound_rune]
Summary; After coming home from his first day as being a Brave Vesperia member, Connell waits for Tyr to come home himself. He decided to properly thank Tyr for helping him settle in and even find this job - by baking cookies for him!
Log; After finally finishing up in the kitchen, Connell sat down a chair in the living room to ease his knees and legs from the long day so far. The weather today was slightly hot, so he can't help himself but to remove his black beret off the top of his head and started to gently fan himself with it as he waited and relaxed for the moment.

Over the minute, Connell eventually leaned back and then glanced up the room's clock to check on the time. He wondered when the others would come home. Even though he baked cookies for Tyr, he wouldn't forget to share with Luc and Riou, too - of course! Whenever they decide to come out, they'll be handed their own set of cookies. But for now, Connell was expecting the former Tenkai Star that he had barely talked to in the past. (It didn't help that everyone wanted a piece of Tyr back at Dunan Castle!) So, maybe today is a good day to get to know him!

Tyr came back from the job tiredly, combing his fingers through his fringe. Seeing Luc when he came home wouldn't have been a surprise, but seeing the young phonologist sitting down right there caught Tyr off guard for a moment. Tyr had brought Connell to the apartment himself only four days ago, but seeing a new face around the small apartment still took some getting used to.

"Connell," Tyr greeted him with a small smile. ...Did he smell something? He peeked around, but nothing caught his eye immediately. "Did you just get here, too?"

He was still a nervous around him, huh? Tyr really couldn't expect him to be as casual with him as Riou or the people he met here, but it was strange in the way that returning to Gregminster had been strange. Nevertheless, Tyr remained as he had been.

"Fine," Tyr responded simply, closing the door behind him. "It's pretty hot today, but it's not that bad..."

The heat wasn't, at least. Whatever had been affecting him didn't just go away with a good night's sleep.

Changing the subject back to Connell, though, Tyr asked, "Anyway, today wasn't that bad for you?"

"Yeah, he really is," Tyr agreed, giving his ear a quick scratch. "He had no problem accepting you, though. The guild leader is actually around your age, apparently..."

It was much easier to talk about Yuri and that than addressing the fact Connell was from the future. It was summer when Riou and himself went fishing that day and were pulled into the City, so for Connell to have been experiencing winter in Harmonia...

Tyr shook his head of the thoughts and walked further into the living room. After being on his feet all day, that couch looked wonderful. "I wonder if a job will come up for you to use your phonology skills..."
stargathering: (wuuuut)

Tyr looked over to him as he went over to the kitchen and gave a quick nod. "Okay."

With Connell retreating to the kitchen, Tyr made himself comfortable on the couch and pulled off his bandanna. His hair was something of a mess beneath it, but it was a bit warm with it on. He just let it rest on the arm of seat. Connell was a good kid, Tyr idly thought. Even if he was still getting to know him, he was glad it was Connell that showed up rather than... He was definitely more helpful than he thought some members of the Dunan Army would be.

Connell was definitely the best to have around. Tyr's face lit up with the sight of the cookies and cup of tea. Sure, it wasn't like Connell prepared a five course meal and Gremio's stew, but a basket of biscuits was pretty great anyway.

"This looks great, Connell," he said as he pulled a star-shaped cookie from the basket. "I guess you really are still in that winter mood."

Tyr nodded with a little sound of agreement. For now, though, he was enjoying the cookies. "I think that's probably a good idea... I don't think Riou would complain if you made more cookies, either, though."

Luc was another matter entirely.

Between bites of cookie, Tyr asked, "Did you cook a lot before you joined the Dunan Army?"
stargathering: (i think these)

[personal profile] stargathering 2010-07-05 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
...He really was famous, wasn't he? Tyr gave a bit of a chuckle and nodded. "Yeah, he's been with me for almost as long as I can remember... Even after the War, he still prepared all my meals for me."

The thought of Gremio made Tyr smile at any rate. But even though he knew that time didn't matter in the City, he wondered now and then about Gremio. He always wanted Tyr back by supper, and here it had been months since he's seen the McDohl household at all.

Dismissing that thought, Tyr looked again to Connell. "Maybe when Gremio and I set out again, we can try taking turns like that, too. He'd have to teach me everything, though..."
stargathering: (Gaaaaaiden)

"Cute"... At least he didn't have to comment on that, or there would have been an awkward silence.

Forgetting Connell said that, Tyr nodded, "I think so... I don't know if Riou ever tried to make it before, but..." He was pretty much convinced Gremio was the only one that could make Gremio's stew. Tyr's teasing is the secret ingredient.

"Anyway, I'd like to learn how to cook in any case. Gremio's stew might be too complex for me to make, though..."

Saying that, Tyr smiled. "I'm sure he'd try to show Riou the right way to prepare it at least... Gremio has a reputation for being a great cook, so he probably has a lot of tips to share."

He remembered the time they first returned to Gregminster and the group that surrounded the both of them. The war even made Gremio's cooking famous... It left a bit of a bitter-sweet feeling in him. He snatched another cookie from the basket.

"Next time Ri..." He quickly corrected himself, "When you come back from Crystal Valley, you're welcome to visit if Gremio and I are still there..."

Tyr nodded. He wondered if Connell would eventually stop feeling the need to be so formal with him, but he didn't count on it. It had been like this for nearly half a decade, and while it meant a lot of people wouldn't trouble him...

"Don't worry about it, Connell," he assured him.

He smiled for encouragement, but Tyr wasn't so sure it would actually happen. With all he had heard of people coming back with no memories of being in the City before, there was no guarantee that, no matter how long he delayed his journey, Connell would drop by. Nevertheless, it was a nice thought.

Tyr fell silent thinking of that, but soon enough looked over to Connell again. "What were you doing in Crystal Valley, anyway?"
stargathering: (pure)

[personal profile] stargathering 2010-07-08 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
So that was it... Tyr nodded after he finished explaining it all. Even though he was so young, he had all that to aspire to? He really was a serious kid.

"Do you want to become a phonology teacher later?" he asked. It already sounded like a very scholarly pursuit, but it sounded like the ultimate goal was to teach.
stargathering: (Make believe)

[personal profile] stargathering 2010-07-08 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Tyr smiled easily at that. He thought, and... He think he remembered hearing about Connell's father before. It reminded him a bit of how he had been when he was younger - not that Tyr was that old! - and... It was nice.

"I see... When we return to our own world, good luck following that wish..."

At that question, Tyr gave a pause. At some point he had, but right now he couldn't think of a goal much like what Connell had at all. With a short 'Hmm', he finally answered.

"I'd like to catch a nice, big fish sometime..." he said simply.

Don't think Tyr did missed that movement. At least Connell could tell when he was joking, Tyr thought. Taking up his cup and smiling casually, Tyr kept looking towards Connell.

"Thanks. Someday I will... Maybe the fish bite more in the Island Nations..."

"It's a really relaxing activity," Tyr admitted. "I'm not really good with it yet, but a friend I met here, Katara, helps me actually catch fish..."

Riou hasn't changed his opinion since coming to the City, either. And Tyr still fishes alone a lot, and Luc is still... Luc. But at hearing his amazement, Tyr just nodded.

"Yeah, she has some type of water magic... She can just pull fish out of the water."
stargathering: (more smiling)

"Yeah. Maybe she'll show you sometime," Tyr said hopefully. "It was amazing to watch..."

All the foreign terms generally went over Tyr's head, though he came to learn some of them. Craymels, artes, bending... How they worked was something else entirely, though.
