When; September 13th, evening
Rating; Mmm. PG for Ken's charming mouth?
Characters; [livejournal.com profile] bladed_siberian, [livejournal.com profile] onceaweiss and [livejournal.com profile] soulofocean
Summary; Ken's been itching for a challenge, and Aya gives him that while Umi watches the boys spar.
Log;

He was usually a good deal more punctual, but a call to rescue someone from the Underground had unfortunately caused him to be a good fifteen minutes late. Thankfully, the bike cut off a good chunk of walking time, so there wouldn't be too much for Aya to fuss about, if he even said anything. Once the bike was still, he climbed off of it, already dressed for the fight other than the long gloves he already had strapped to his legs. After a quick look around, he pulled off his helmet and crossed over to where his 'opponent' and friend were waiting.

"Sorry! I got a late call."

Aya used his sword to block the attack rather than dodging this time, pressing back despite the fact that Ken was stronger. He couldn't always rely on the fact that he was stronger than him.

[identity profile] soulofocean.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
...So it would come down to a struggle of strength now? Unless Aya disengaged and attacked from the flank, far as Umi understood. Though that would be a bit too much of an obvious bet. Let's see if Ken allowed for this to go on much longer, or used his own strength to turn the matter to his advantage again.

Some of the dirt hit his eyes and he wished he had his mask. But he hadn't bothered to put it on for his. Back off instantly, he shook his head to get the dirt out of his face. Damn...he should have seen that one coming.

"What the-?!"

Umi almost jumped off her seat. That... what on earth had that been for?? It was hard to get a grip and not interfere in the match, but Umi pulled it off and sat very still.

She hadn't yet come to terms with this... this making sure they fought like whatever The City or less honorable adversaries would fight. It was hard, for someone who'd been raised with the honor code of fencing stuck firmly on her head, to be okay with it.

Umi wasn't above a couple of tricks when in battle, but a part of herself still felt aggravated at things like that. Give her time. Maybe she'd manage to grow a thicker skin for it. Meanwhile she just scowled, stayed quiet, and looked on, sighing deeply under her breath.

Aya managed to get enough dirt out to see that moment of hesitation. Rushing forward, he went to...slam his head straight into Ken's stomach.

[identity profile] soulofocean.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
...Ouch.

Boy, when she speculated on the bruises she certainly wasn't counting on stuff like this. Feeling restless, Umi shifted her position where she sat and kept watching, making sure she remained quiet despite the unorthodox moves that might yet come along.

Aya pulled away quickly and hissed at the pull to his hair but refused to go down. Ken had won the last round and now it was his turn. He still had a competitive edge now and then. Swinging his sword around, he moved to bring it around to point it at Ken's neck.

[identity profile] soulofocean.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
...That hair maneuver was something else. It made Umi wonder just how much of an advantage she was giving any potential attackers of hers by wearing her own so darn long.

But these thoughts were chased away almost at once as she focused on watching what appeared to be the possible end of the battle.

He smiled and pulled his sword away to hold his hand out to help Ken up instead.

"I should have seen that coming."

The fact that he hadn't would grate on his nerves for awhile. Aya did pride himself on being observant to things like that.

"Can you breathe yet?"

[identity profile] soulofocean.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Umi was breathing, for the matter. She didn't remember the last time she had since the battle started.

She stood up from her bench and approached the pair, still saying nothing but glancing over at Ken as if adding her own to Aya's question. She'd fished two little water bottles from her backpack and was holding them in her hands right now, ready to offer them to the contenders.

[identity profile] onceaweiss.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you, Umi." Taking the water, he opened it so he could pour some of the water onto his face and into his eyes. They still stung but that was to be expected. They still had dirt in them.

"Usually we go longer. The dirt usually misses." He really should have seen that one.

[identity profile] soulofocean.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
"...No kidding. You both are pretty mean when it comes to serious training, let me tell you!" She was glad she'd thought of bringing the water. Some towels too, which she'd be going to fetch for these two after she was completely reassured they were okay.

So maybe it was silly, worrying like that after knowing the sort of missions Ken and Aya had been minding for years. But Umi was an incurable worrier over those she cared about and not ashamed to admit it anymore, when it came to these two.

"Maybe I should watch more often. You know, so I learn not to completely freak when you guys pull stunts like that dirt thing." Yes, she still felt sort of guilty over that one reaction.

[identity profile] onceaweiss.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
"As I recall, you threw the dirt first."

Still, there was some amusement on his face. It wasn't like Aya was really upset with Ken for throwing the dirt in his face.

"I even held back a little with the head thing."

[identity profile] soulofocean.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I got the hunch you're going to disagree, but that sounds like a good thing to me!" Trotting back to the bench where her backpack waited, Umi soon returned with the towels. Those two must have sweated a lot while going at each other like that! Good that her own training sessions and ongoing katana lessons with Aya had her all but prepared for that sort of instances.

She chuckled a little as she offered the clean white linen to her companions. "I should've brought some aspirin too. I hope that one move doesn't cost Aya a headache as much as a bruise to Ken. Or a really sore chest."

[identity profile] onceaweiss.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Soft? That's a complete change from what you used to call my head."

Aya shook his head slowly and took the towel to dry off his face after pouring water all over it. His eyes were feeling better already. That was fortunate.

"Have you had anything to eat yet, Umi?"

[identity profile] soulofocean.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Do I want to hear what Ken actually used to call it?" She had to laugh inwardly at the obvious speculations going on inside her head, though it all was quickly forgotten at the odd fascination Umi found upon looking at how casually Ken took care of his blades.

Then she snapped back to reality at Aya's question. "Not really. I wanted to be timely for this and get everything ready. Are you guys hungry after all that exercise?"
