Log;Ongoing/Closed
When; September 13th, evening
Rating; Mmm. PG for Ken's charming mouth?
Characters;
bladed_siberian,
onceaweiss and
soulofocean
Summary; Ken's been itching for a challenge, and Aya gives him that while Umi watches the boys spar.
Log;
He was usually a good deal more punctual, but a call to rescue someone from the Underground had unfortunately caused him to be a good fifteen minutes late. Thankfully, the bike cut off a good chunk of walking time, so there wouldn't be too much for Aya to fuss about, if he even said anything. Once the bike was still, he climbed off of it, already dressed for the fight other than the long gloves he already had strapped to his legs. After a quick look around, he pulled off his helmet and crossed over to where his 'opponent' and friend were waiting.
"Sorry! I got a late call."

Umi almost jumped off her seat. That... what on earth had that been for?? It was hard to get a grip and not interfere in the match, but Umi pulled it off and sat very still.
She hadn't yet come to terms with this... this making sure they fought like whatever The City or less honorable adversaries would fight. It was hard, for someone who'd been raised with the honor code of fencing stuck firmly on her head, to be okay with it.
Umi wasn't above a couple of tricks when in battle, but a part of herself still felt aggravated at things like that. Give her time. Maybe she'd manage to grow a thicker skin for it. Meanwhile she just scowled, stayed quiet, and looked on, sighing deeply under her breath.

Boy, when she speculated on the bruises she certainly wasn't counting on stuff like this. Feeling restless, Umi shifted her position where she sat and kept watching, making sure she remained quiet despite the unorthodox moves that might yet come along.

But these thoughts were chased away almost at once as she focused on watching what appeared to be the possible end of the battle.

"I can't believe you fell for that, Aya."
no subject
"I should have seen that coming."
The fact that he hadn't would grate on his nerves for awhile. Aya did pride himself on being observant to things like that.
"Can you breathe yet?"

She stood up from her bench and approached the pair, still saying nothing but glancing over at Ken as if adding her own to Aya's question. She'd fished two little water bottles from her backpack and was holding them in her hands right now, ready to offer them to the contenders.

"Ha ha. You just winded me, and yeah Umi, I'm fine. We both are. You just gotta remember that this isn't all that unusual for us. When we really spar, we have to go all out."
no subject
"Usually we go longer. The dirt usually misses." He really should have seen that one.

So maybe it was silly, worrying like that after knowing the sort of missions Ken and Aya had been minding for years. But Umi was an incurable worrier over those she cared about and not ashamed to admit it anymore, when it came to these two.
"Maybe I should watch more often. You know, so I learn not to completely freak when you guys pull stunts like that dirt thing." Yes, she still felt sort of guilty over that one reaction.

"I think that's a good idea, actually. I bet Aya's an amazing teacher but you need to be ready for crap like I pulled. And crap like he pulled. I'm gonna bruise, you jerk."
Even though he was chastising Aya, he still had that smile on his face.

Still, there was some amusement on his face. It wasn't like Aya was really upset with Ken for throwing the dirt in his face.
"I even held back a little with the head thing."

She chuckled a little as she offered the clean white linen to her companions. "I should've brought some aspirin too. I hope that one move doesn't cost Aya a headache as much as a bruise to Ken. Or a really sore chest."
no subject
"Hey, it's not my fault if Aya's head is soft."
As soon as the gloves were removed, he gave them another once over, absently reaching between the wicked looking blades to pick out a blade of grass.

Aya shook his head slowly and took the towel to dry off his face after pouring water all over it. His eyes were feeling better already. That was fortunate.
"Have you had anything to eat yet, Umi?"
no subject
Then she snapped back to reality at Aya's question. "Not really. I wanted to be timely for this and get everything ready. Are you guys hungry after all that exercise?"
no subject
"Starved, but I'm fine for now. I think Mara's got something planned."
