LOG: ONGOING [The Ark]

When; Sept. 29, all day and night!
Rating; PG-13 at most?
Characters; OPEN
Summary; The biggest storm you've ever seen has just broken out across the City. Water everywhere. Well [Bad username or site: tharheblows title= @ livejournal.com] is--as your arkmaster, captain, and host. He's steering that ship into safety for all of you and has only one thing to say to those who've chosen to stay behind in the City: SUCKAS
Log;

[ooc: Here is the log taking place on the ark for all participating characters! Feel free to log whatever you'd like while the ship is at sea weathering the storm. Label threads accordingly for open interaction, group interaction, what have you. And remember, the City is not being washed away (although the view from the ark would be unclear) and network devices will work the same as they always do. [Hardison is frantically looking to make sure that Eliot and Parker got on the boat -- which means assaulting everyone in his vicinity with pictures on his device and a frantic "HAVE YOU SEEN EITHER OF THESE PEOPLE?" blurted in your face.]

No? Neither of them? ...There aren't air ducts on this thing, by any chance?

Penny still doesn't fully understand why she's on a boat or why, exactly, she was compelled to drop everything she was doing to help build said boat. With the rain coming down, however, she's glad to be on something that floats.

Other than the rain, it hasn't been a terribly unpleasant curse, as far as unpleasant curses go. The woman she had been partnered with before boarding--Emma? yes, that was it--had been very sweet, if a bit twitchy. Not that a little twitchiness wasn't warranted in the situation. Would the City really flood? Penny wasn't sure how many of her friends had made it onto the boat; she'd been too busy learning how to apply pitch to check in with everyone.

With the rain coming down, Penny--carrying Babbage and Cabbage in one cage and Doris and her pet pigeon in the other--goes below deck. Doris, being a duck, might not mind the weather, but the other animals don't seem as amused by the torrential rain. In her hurry to collect animals and get to work on the ark, she'd quite forgotten to bring along anything useful... a change of clothes, food. Things like that. No matter. She secures the animals and begins to wander the boat, sopping wet and looking for familiar faces. Chris and Ray stayed behind, but hopefully Doll had made it on with the dogs...

[Roy only really knows this guy because of being paired up with him somehow. He was paired up and now he's on some sort of rubbish ancient boat thing. He's not entirely certain that this is better than drowning. But he knows he has to be on it, and so he is. Now, what would be nice is if that Hardison guy would stop adding to the already irritating noise.]

Just calm down. They're either here, or they're probably on another boat. Nobody wouldn't get on a boat when there's going to be a flood. That would be stupid.

Beneath and beyond the deck rages the open sea, and in it, its beast.

If Penny chances a glance to her right for a moment, she might well see it rise its tail, flick it, then submerge.

And wait.

[Hardison frowns, which is actually a rare sight if Eliot's not around to explain computers to. Good job, Roy.]

Seriously. If there are air ducts, I gotta check them. And my friends aren't stupid, okay?

Even gazing into the enraged ocean as it battered the ark's hull Umi could hardly believe this was happening. So what if she'd sensed it coming? It wasn't a sight she was ready for, The City assailed by such a flood. The Water Knight tightened her hands into fists and she felt the drizzle of waves and rain hit her face. She was exhausted, and sick of the stuffy damp air inside the ark. Being out here for a bit helped invigorate her, as the close contact with water always did.

But she had worries on her mind that she couldn't deal with just by telling herself she'd done the right thing. Biting her lip, Umi turned to gaze back inside where the people gathered. So far? Presea, Clef, Fuu, Hikaru, the Princess, Lantis... But not a trace of... ---she should start asking around for them again. She'd spent the last hour or so talking to strangers, inquiring if they'd seen a tall stern redhead and an athletic brunette with an attitude around. But still, not a trace. Alright, there were lots of people there. It was only natural that not everyone was accounted for, and there were a couple of other people she hadn't found so far. But, still...

Shaking her head, the Water Knight compelled herself to get a grip. She was getting SOAKED out there. Even if it was unlikely for her to catch a cold she didn't want to get her friends worried. Those two were around. They promised. Those two, just like the rest of the people she cared about and hadn't met on board the wooden monster yet. So the best thing she could do for all their sakes was to stop being sick with worry, trust they were alright and try to make herself useful. It wasn't the first nor the last time The City had shoved them straight into a crazy survival situation, right? They'd deal. They always had.

Sending one last glance at the darkened ocean, Umi sighed and stepped inside again.

just visible in the farside waters........ for now.

[It's his talent.]

Good. That means they're on a boat. [He sighs.] Are you really serious about the air ducts? I doubt this boat has them, anyway. It was built in a day.

[The thing about being super strong? Someone always takes advantage of that. Buffy is currently toting wood and supplies back and forth between boats.]

Figures, end of the world and I end up a pack mule.

[Uni approaches the ark, trying to shield a large, waterproof bag containing food. She herself is soaked, cloak clinging to her arms and back as a result of having been caught in the storm. Still, she's thankful she managed to protect the bag. She sets it down once she enters the ark, moving to remove her cloak and hat and set them to dry.]

Emma is on a boat. Emma does not particularly like boats. They aren't especially safe and this one--she is quite sure--is not especially clean either. Or clean at all. The sopping passengers certainly aren't, including herself, which makes her want to wash repetitively except that she can't. Paired with a gentle-faced young woman named Penny, she supposes she is lucky in this regard. Penny appears quite normal, charming even and very accommodating considering Emma's stilted cooperation to board or be this close to other people at all when she doesn't have industrial strength and sized hand sanitizer nearby. What she is not too fond of are the animals, but then, this can't very well be helped.

Having taken to wandering back and forth, counting in her head and other simple, distracting things, Emma locates Penny again as a sort of safeguard; if she can recognize and return to a point of kindness then this isn't so bad. She can handle this.

There are worse things.

Things she does her best to deny, which she is rather effective at.

Far easier, she knows already, to count the lines in the wood. Obsessive, but it's effective in its distraction.

So is Penny, who seems to radiate niceness minus the social handicapping that Emma knows she pens herself into sometimes with her...difficulties. This makes her infinitely more believably approachable of course, which Emma cannot help but take note of both as an admirer and someone admittedly a little envious too.

"Penny for your thoughts?" she asks the girl and pleases herself with how stable her voice sounds, soft as ever but not worse for the wear, which for Emma might as well be impressive.

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-09-29 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Penny does take a moment to survey the sea that appeared overnight, awed by the dark waves and turbulent surf. There's not much to see--it's gray on gray with a rainy screen--but she does think she spies something off to the right. It's too dark to be a wave and gone too fast to allow for careful inspection. Was that a fin? Were there whales out here?

"Did anyone else see that?" she asks no in particular, hoping that someone else had seen the thing. It couldn't do to be cursed and crazy.

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-09-29 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The arkmaster is easily recognizable, although Penny can't quite remember where she met him. Was it when they were being assigned partners, or before that when she was trying to figure out how to help build the ark? No matter. He has towels--wonderful, fluffy-looking towels that, to Penny, look like pieces of heaven itself--and he's headed her way.

"Hello?" It's a tentative greeting, as if she's not sure she's allowed to talk to him. "Could I maybe borrow one of those towels? Please?"

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-09-29 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
With the animals tucked against the wall and out of the way, Penny is making herself familiar with the inside of the boat. Funny how she never managed to see the inside while they were working on it. It's amazing, though, how sturdy the ark looks, considering how quickly they made it and how very clueless some of the helpers--Penny included--were.

The tired phrase, spoken in a soft voice, grabs her attention. Penny smiles at Emma, genuinely pleased to see her. Emma hadn't looked all that good when they had boarded (in spite of her cute and neatly coordinated outfit, which Penny admired); she still looks nervous, but it seems to be a controlled nervousness. That has to be an improvement... right?

"You can have them for free, if you really want them," Penny replies cheerfully. No need to tell Emma that she's worried about the friends she hasn't heard from yet; poor Emma looks like she's quite capable of worrying enough for both of them. "How're you doing?"

[Rummy uses his trenchcoat protect himself and what little he brought from the rain as he gets on the boat. For once it's serving a purpose other than making him look badass. He finds a dry corner of the boat to settle down and dry his glasses, which got a little splattered with rainwater despite his best efforts.]
