Waking up in an unknown city was usually the sign of a good night, however, this time, Jack knows it's not a good sign, especially when his night hadn't been anything special enough to land him in a place he didn't know.

He looked around, trying to see if he recognized anything, but nothing stood out. Except for the carousel and fountain and not because they were familiar, but because, honestly, who kept carousels in town anymore, unless you were in a mall?

Jack pressed the blue-tooth set at his ear and checked his vortex manipulator for readings of the area.

"Gwen, Ianto, are you there?"

Of course, no response, that'd be too easy.

"Where the Hell am I?"

"Not so strange, really." Cameron gave the man a little shrug, but her smile widened a little in answer to his grin. "People turn up here all the time. Here being a place called 'the City' which is... well, it's a pretty strange place, all things considered, really."

He stuck his hands in his pockets and gave her a considering look. "Is it now? What makes it so strange? And, are you implying that people show up here randomly a lot?" He decided not to comment on the lack of a creative name beyond 'City'.

"For one, people do show up here randomly, yes. No one I've talked to is from this place, they all just found themselves here from one moment to the next with no idea how they got here. Then, there's the curses - that's anything from compulsory list-making to changing gender, or believing you're a rock star." She's ticking off items on her fingers as she goes.

"Changing gender? Now that's something I haven't done in ages, although, it had been caused by a new drug with that as a side effect...anyway, basically, people are kidnapped to this city and suffer through 'magic' of somesort...I wonder why."

Stop. Blink. Cameron catches herself very quickly, though, so her moment of stop-and-stare is barely noticeable. She really needs to get used to all these strange things.

"I have no idea why, to be quite honest. Some say because we're interesting or amuse the deities in some way."

His expression darkened slightly. "It wouldn't surprise me, people in positions of power often use others for fun."

"Or their own advantage." Pause. That's a bit depressing, right there.

Jack, as usual, flashed a smile, trying to diffuse the situation.

"Sorry, didn't mean to get so dark."

"Sometimes, this place gives you reason enough to get pretty dark." She shrugs. "Like any other place, really, I suppose."

True. There's a always a dark side. I just try to stay on the more positive side...most of the time. Too often people only look at the negative.
