Summary; Amy is living in the TARDIS with Ten. And so, therefore, hopefully, Rory is too. They go to the TARDIS to see.
Log; Rory's feet are still wet.

Yes, at least they aren't making that vaguely distracting squishing noise every time he takes a step anymore, but they are enclosed in shoes, which are wet, and socks, which are wet, and it's damp and uncomfortable. Not to mention that after running all over everywhere in wet socks, he's getting blisters.

So despite it being really brilliant, and amazing to be running around this city--this City--with Amy, just them two, he is really getting about ready to stop somewhere. It's been a long day anyway, a day on top of a day, the slight time shift that he IS used to, travelling with the Doctor, but means he's getting tired. This realised, he nudges Amy gently.

"Hey. Can we do the rest of this tomorrow? It is...ace, but maybe we could go to--" He is going to say 'your house' before he remembers. Amy said she was living in the TARDIS. He pauses, then rallies. "--the TARDIS and call it a day."

"Growing old, Mr Williams?" Amy teases, well-aware that she's the older one. But she does slow down a little and changes directions. Their exploration of the City has led them to a point not too far from the TARDIS - fortunately for Rory and his blistered feet.

"I mentioned the Doctor looks different, though, yeah? 'cause he's got a whole different face. Different body, too. Oh, and most importantly: No bowtie."

They're definitely not going by mind, that would entirely destroy one of Amy's favourite ways of winning any argument, ever. She's older, so she's right. Always worked, though Amy knows more often than not that's just Rory letting her have her way.

"Nope. Completely different look. But he's definitely the Doctor, not just 'cause he's got the TARDIS. You'll see."

"That's half the fun." The weirdness, of course. And Amy is absolutely, positively sure that she'd be able to recognise the Doctor, no matter what form he was in. Well, so long as he could still speak. And think, obviously. And she's equally certain that she'd be able to tell an imposter apart from the real Doctor. You don't spend your whole life ... obsessing about a guy without learning a thing or two about him in the process.

"And here we are." She raises her voice. "Doctor! Doctor, I brought someone."

'Ow!' At some point, he's going to learn to stop trying to wire things together like that, but for now sticking the offending fingers in his mouth for a moment and then going right back to what it was that caused the mild zap in the first place would be fine. He's got sleeves rolled up a little, under the console, under the floor, still working on fixing some of the things he.. mildly exploded a couple of weeks ago. Most of them are done, but some of the smaller systems need help readjusting to the parallel system. And he's bored. But when he hears Amy calling him, he zaps himself again - by accident - and hops up and runs over to the door. Big grin to Amy and her... Someone. 'You did! Hello! Hi, you must be Amy's.. someone.' He moves to the side after his particular bit of eloquence.

Amy is already used to the different TARDIS, but she stops and looks around with Rory, trying to see it through his eyes for a moment. It reminds her again that this is a different Doctor, one that doesn't know her yet - one who took her to the zoo to see a unicorn, though. Which definitely speaks in his favour, and she feels, not for the first time, but for the first time with respect to this Doctor, the need to defend the Doctor.

"Rory, Doctor. Doctor, Rory." Amy's grinning through that introduction. Two of her favourite people in the world, together again. Not quite the way it was, what with the Doctor not knowing her, them, but it'll do.

So, more people who are used to this future version of himself, if the familiarity-but-not-familiarity with the TARDIS is anything to go by. Almost out of sheer force of habit he glances around at it when other people do - it seems so normal to him; it's weird to constantly be reminded that it apparently isn't. To some. Rory seems quite cautious though. And mildly caught on his choice of words. 'D'you like it? Amy's told me it's a bit.. different.' He looks back at the both of them. 'Sorry, right. Husband. Nice to meet you!'

Amy tilts her head a little and watches them. Rory doesn't seem too thrilled which, well. He'll get over, she knows he will, eventually. So that's okay for now, that's just how he is. His last question makes her blink, though, and for one moment she hopes that this isn't going to end in technobabble and mutual TARDIS fixing again. She likes knowing that the TARDIS works and reaping the benefits of it; she doesn't much care how exactly it works. Of course, Rory is different. So maybe it'd be a good thing if this ended in technobabble? Give her two guys some time to bond. Mind made up, she nods.

"The future you let Rory help with the TARDIS sometimes." And she rolls her eyes a little, because the Doctor never lets her drive, but hey. If it got some of the tension between them out of the air, it was good in her book.

See, people liking the TARDIS were nearly always very good people. Unless they wanted it for nefarious, dastardly reasons; then not-so-good. But people who liked the aesthetics were very nearly always good. The Doctor handwaves a little bit at the introduction, 'Time travelling, wibbly-wobbly..' The interest in the technical workings was a bit new; people usually just got stuck on the inter-dimensional aspect and didn't really want to hear about.. all the other reasons it functioned. Actually more than once, talking about it had opened cheap shots about why it tended to not. He can't really help the way his eyebrows shoot up a bit when Amy tells him he let Rory work on things though, as that's somewhat uncommon a happening.

'I did?' Normally the non-linear aspect worked in his favour; he was finding he wasn't as pleased when it didn't. 'Or, will. That's.. new, the controls are all here around the time rotor, yeah.' Tense enough, and Amy seemed quite keen on having them get along. Needed to get to know them both still, really.

Amy's looking back and forth between the Doctor and Rory now. Still tension in the air, and Rory doesn't look all that comfortable. That's not new, Rory didn't look all that comfortable in the beginning when he first entered the TARDIS, either. What's changed though is that Amy actually cares rather much more. Not that she didn't care back then. She was going to marry the guy, after all, that should say something. But it's... different now.

[identity profile] am-i-being-rude.livejournal.com 2011-05-10 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor lights up a bit when Rory finishes the phrase, 'Exactly!' Definitely more for the knowing them in the future pile of things; that's not really something you could just come up with. Unless you were him.

Although following that brief bit of glee there's some lovely awkward pausing, with Amy just sort of watching them both and Rory continuing to look very awkward. He glances back and forth between the console and the pair a couple of times, weighing things. They don't.. seem dangerous. But.. it's his ship. Although, trying to make it move is proving to be a bit of an obstacle. 'Convenient, yeah,' he replies, briefly wondering what TARDIS they're used to that doesn't have all the controls in one place; hard enough to fly it by himself as it is. Well, maybe that's why he lets him help.

'There's a few bits you have to get to under the grating but mostly just back up power-cells, fluid links, emergency backups.' Well, maybe if Rory knows a bit about it, that would make whatever he's about to do with Jack's manipulator a bit easier. 'Some storage.' Maybe.

Amy remembers that Rory is still kind of... wet, though he's dried considerably since his arrival. Still, a pair of clean, dry clothes probably wouldn't hurt. And it seems like the conversation between him and the Doctor has run out, so Amy grabs Rory's arm and grins.

"C'mon, I'll show you my room. See if we can find something dry to put on you." They'd find something, she had no doubt. At Rory's last question, though, she stopped and looked at the Doctor.

[identity profile] am-i-being-rude.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well, granted, the small-talk conversation had all but petered out when he'd started listing parts under the grating and making no apparent moves toward working on the console right this minute, and then there was the kind of mild, well-meaning pressure he could feel coming from Amy, and the kind of overwhelming awkwardness and.. not really anxiety? vibes he was getting from Rory, for.. some reason. He was, himself, probably not doing all that well either, being at the losing end of this 'We've met you but you haven't met us' mashed up with the 'We've met a different version of you and need a bit of time to adjust' thing that always happened around regenerations. Of course, this.. wasn't around a regeneration for him, so it was.. Particularly odd. And almost making him self-conscious.

Almost. But even given all that, the length of time he'd been here already wasn't really.. Let's just say he was mildly relieved when Amy decided to show Rory their room. (He hadn't even noticed the guy was wet. Why was he wet? Amy was dry, so it wasn't raining. He didn't seem the type to go for a bit of a swim with all his clothes on.)

'Oh, not too long. Just a few months, maybe.' He says it very lightly, and wraps it with a small grin at the end. Being stuck here for any length of time, much less a protracted one, would obviously bother him, but there's no real need to tell either of them that. 'You, know the way to the wardrobe, then?' he asks, both making sure they do and also furthering the 'Do we really, seriously know one another in the future?' pile is tended to.

[identity profile] waitedforyears.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
"It hasn't moved." Said with absolutely certainty, but hey. Amy saw the wardrobe just yesterday when she raided it for a new mini-skirt. The one she's wearing right now, actually. So she's absolutely, definitely sure she knows where the wardrobe is.

[identity profile] am-i-being-rude.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
He masks a grimace with wryness when Rory doesn't fail to notice that he.. answered the question. Maybe he should have said weeks. Meet new people, instantly lose their confidence in your ability to do things. Yay! After the 'oh' he sort of puts his hands in his pockets and rocks back and forth on the balls of his feet, since.. Well, the term 'awkward' has been used enough, and he doesn't know what to say.

'Shouldn't have done. Haven't felt anything shifting. Just wanted to make sure!' Grin. 'Wouldn't want to go losing you. Have fun!'

[identity profile] waitedforyears.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"C'mon then," Amy tells Rory. The conversation between him and the Doctor has pretty much run its course, that much is obvious, and no matter how badly she wants for them to get along, the awkwardness is almost painful to watch.

[identity profile] am-i-being-rude.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
''Course, yeah.' He nods a couple of times, since really, he's ridiculously pleased they've decided to stay. He hadn't realised how much he wanted company. Obviously, he's not going to really show them that yet, because.. It feels mildly intense, particularly after that conversation. 'Long as you want; plenty of space and all!'

And they're holding hands and moving back to head into the wardrobe, as the conversation is.. Well, probably best left to be put out of its own misery, to be honest -- so he sort of waves a bit at them and then without waiting on them to leave the room - because again watching them that much right now feels strange - pokes his head back under the console where he'd been trying not to have too much of a tiff with his ship prior to their having come in.
