Where; Blue Light in Overground
When; August 25, evening
Rating; PG-13
Log;

A quiet Thursday evening. It seemed as though his mind was everywhere these days. Perhaps a relaxing night was in order. An easy task and what better way to spend such an evening but by scouting out a place with good music. He recalled Jill performing this night too. A good way to start a conversation with anyone who'd care to join him and the perfect ice breaker to pry. A small hole in the wall type place. He was certain he was bound to meet someone interesting.

Dressed in his usual white attire, he sat in a private booth with a drink before him as he stared off towards the stage.

As Aion enters the Blue Light and finds his seat, Jill is of course at her spot at the piano in the middle of a set and in the middle of this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bpz7hAzB3lA). During the song, the tender brings over a refill of the bloody mary she'd been drinking and takes the old glass away. After a sip, she starts in on this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCeAaBVcTow). And she follows it up with the last song of her set, a little familiar piece for the patrons of the club, this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pA-RwQhRN7g). People did always seem to like the familiar, and afterward she gets a nice applause.

She stands, finishing her drink and moves to the bar to get a refill. Tonight she's wearing a nice black halter-top dress that sinks kind of low in the back. Lucy had once told her she had a nice back and it had unfortunately gone straight to her head, seeing as she didn't often get compliments from people. Of course since she had never met Aion, she wasn't sure if he was even here. So she just waited for her drink and turned her back to the bar to lean against it and look over the patrons of The Blue Light for the evening.

Jill offered a small smile and a nervous nod at the approaching stranger. She was always awkward and nervous at first, it was just the rule of thumb with her. It was when he spoke and she heard his voice that she had an idea of who he was. Her smile softened just a bit and she offered a small hand to him in greeting.

"Aion?"

ooc: It's okay! *hugs*

Well, that was a first, being greeted with a kiss to her knuckles. It was right out of a storybook. But this was reality which kind of left Jill speechless for a few seconds before she finally forced herself out of her thoughts and back into the present to speak again.

"Oh, thank you. I'm glad you could make it. Did it turn out to be your kind of music?"

"They're all from the nineteen thirties. That was really the best era for jazz piano. All the good stuff was written then, sometimes with the accompaniment of a bass, trumpet and drums. How Deep is the Ocean and Sophisticated Lady were both written in 1932, by Irving Berlin and Duke Ellington respectively. Over the Rainbow, usually referred to as Somewhere Over the Rainbow by the masses was a dual project. The lyrics were presented to MGM studios by one... something Harburg for The Wizard of Oz movie that was in the works. I can't remember his first name, but the music was later put to it by Harold Arlen with a little help from Judy Garland herself... which is interesting because she was a woman who had little say in her career because of her age and gender at the time." Of course Jill could talk the hind leg off a mule when it came to music. It was the only area in her life that could without a doubt, at all times, make her ramble to the point of almost saying too much.

She of course realizes she's talking so much and blushes profusely, clearing her throat and more than glad when the bar tender places her bloody mary drink on the bar top for her. She gulps down a big drink of it and then offers Aion a small, apologetic smile. "Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it somewhat. I love playing. It always calms me down... makes things as right as they can be."

Jill wasn't normally so talkative. But when it came to music, she found she couldn't stop. It was her passion. Music has saved her life, really. And it was really the only way to get past the initially awkward to break the ice with her. So obviously Aion did that well.

When he smiled, she offered a small smile in return. "Oh well... I'm just kind of a mess on the inside. You know... not right. But when I'm around a piano everything's okay. Which is weird, I know..."

[identity profile] sempreadagio.livejournal.com 2011-09-02 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Jill instinctively lowered her gaze when he stared into her eyes. It was telling of the kind of person she was, the kind of person to always back down or shy away, but she couldn't help it. It was just who she was, or who she had become over time with the hand life had dealt her.

"Uhm... the emotional... psychological kind of mess. You know, not normal." She considered that a brief moment with a quick sip of her drink. "Although here 'normal' seems to be on a whole other scale."

[identity profile] sempreadagio.livejournal.com 2011-09-14 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
For a moment she considered that. He was right, of course. But Jill was a walking contradiction of fragility and strength. Fragile in so many ways and yet there was no way she would still be alive if there hadn't been some kind of inner strength to pull her through the tumultuous life she had had. But she had also been told often enough how messed up she was and with that kind of consistent repetition, was prone to believing it.

She looked back up to Aion as she sipped at her drink again and offered him a small smile along with a slight shrug of her shoulders. "What's your opinion? Do I seem normal to you? You seem normal to me." Of course her ideas of normality and the alternative were somewhat skewed. And as an afterthought she adds something else. "I like your hair."

[identity profile] sempreadagio.livejournal.com 2011-09-14 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, well just in case there's any question I'm more normal and ordinary than normal and ordinary." She knew that she was boring and was more than willing to admit to it. Of course, her boring status had magnified tenfold here with all the extraordinary people and creatures from all over the place. She wasn't even a blip on the radar of gifted or special.

"The only thing I really excel at is the piano." And of course then she realizes she's under-selling herself the way Lucy always said she did. So she adds something else. "And... watching... football. I'm good at that too. Oh and running. I run pretty well, in a normal running kind of way." Cause some people here had super speed.

[identity profile] sempreadagio.livejournal.com 2011-09-16 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Her eyes almost seemed too big for her slender face as she looked wide-eyed at him in response to the question. She was trying to figure out what he meant by it and how to answer it. What did she desire? What did she desire? She stalls by sipping at her own drink again and stirring it up with the celery stick garnish that had come with it. How did anyone answer that question? Jill did have a tendency to over-think things. Her mind always slipped to the deep dark recesses if given enough time. And she tended to go there much quicker than most.

"Uhm..." She tilts her head and pushes the messy waves of her hair back behind her ears. Instead of continue to slip into those shadowy thoughts, she decided to ask him to clarify. "What do you mean?"

[identity profile] sempreadagio.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Jill was very different from most girls her age. She had learned at a very young age not to want anything because she never got anything she wanted. Quite the opposite. And on top of that, Jill was one to avoid most things and over think most of them as well to the point of allowing things to pass her by.

The way he was looking at her now, it was a little mesmerizing and when she looked up, her eyes locked with his. Eye contact wasn't something she often made and held onto. But she did with him for now.

"Maybe for Lucy to be happy. She deserves happiness." Jill answers him. "She's my best friend, like a sister. I don't really deserve her but she's always been there, you know?"

[identity profile] sempreadagio.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"For me?" Jill furrows her brow, draws a deep breath and tries to think of something she might want or desire for herself. This shouldn't be so hard. But it was.

"Mmm... maybe to be more self-confident, like Lucy. She's... I mean she just puts herself out there without even thinking twice." Jill shrugs. "Me? I second guess everything I do. I'm always looking for an angle with other people. Like why they do things, or..." Her eyes narrow a bit, a corner of her lips tugging upward. "Like why you're even talking to me."

[identity profile] sempreadagio.livejournal.com 2011-09-22 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"A good resource?" Jill smirks and shakes her head, finally pulling her gaze away from his and sipping at her drink again. The only drive she had in regard to herself was music and survival. Humans could be monsters too and Jill had lived with monsters for most of her life.

"My motive? I guess it's to get lost. It's safer when you're lost... in music or in a movie or in a book. Things are better there." Which probably made no sense to anyone but herself. But Jill had always been a little different than most humans. It was why she didn't have many friends. She was the weird, broody, dark, emo chick. "I think you're interesting. But why do you think I'm speaking with you?"

[identity profile] sempreadagio.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
His own obvious amusement with his answer makes her almost smile, but then his words sink in and she knows he's right in many aspects. She lifts one slender shoulder, a half shrug as she considers his question. "I've never really desired power, just... safety, I guess. I think some people just try to survive, power be damned. But I do admit to imagining things more than doing them... which is sad, I know."
