When; Thanksgiving Day
Rating; PG for now, subject to change
Characters; The people Charlie invited to Thanksgiving
Summary; Charlie throws her first Thanksgiving dinner ever.
Log;
Charlie was sure of one thing at the moment and that was she was never doing this again. Ever. Screw Christmas or any other holiday that asked for this much food. She wasn't doing it.
For starters, she had been cooking since Tuesday. That was small things like rolls and an attempt at cranberry sauce which was thrown down the garbage disposal because it had gone wrong. And toasting bread for stuffing.
And then Wednesday had been more shopping and more cooking and that had been the bigger things like baked macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, a few vegetable side dishes and another attempt at cranberry sauce that had gone significantly better. And just seconds after she'd gotten into bed, she had the brilliant idea to slow roast the turkey so, after looking up how to do it, she set her alarm to wake up just in time to get that started. It was kind of gross, removing things from the inside of the turkey and restuffing it with bunches of herbs and spices and a couple orange halves just to keep it from drying. That had also been a bit earlier than she'd liked and now she was kind of tired.
But there were still errands to run, last minute things to finish and a dress to buy, though that was more an attempt to make herself look as though she really could do this and wasn't at all half dead on her feet.
Which she was. So, people she's invited, you guys better appreciate the efforts she went through for you all.

"You need to chill, darling, it's going to be fine."
Just don't let Bucky or Steve near the food preperation. Lifting Hypnos up with a grin, "Ain't that right, small fry?"
no subject
Hypnos gives a faint mew to Charlie, putting a paw on Bucky's head as if to say I agree with this one. Or it could also be Does he know where my treats are? Because I want one.
"I know," Charlie says, shooting him a smile that was probably meant to look less nervous than it actually does. "I've just never cooked this much in my life. Slept like hell last night and--" Is apparently easily distracted because she fumbles the parmesan wedge and grates the palm of her hand instead of the cheese.
"Shit." That sort of hurts.
no subject
"Here," he murmurs, holding Hypnos out for her to take, moving to the sink to wash his hands, "I may not be a good cook, but I can grate some cheese. Y'wanna watch yourself."
no subject
She rinses her injury under the kitchen faucet, watching Bucky. "I really only need half of that cheese shredded. And then all that gets sprinkled on the macaroni before it goes in the oven."
She's going to be in the bathroom, painting a NewSkin Liquid Bandage onto her palm, blowing on it to dry it faster.
"I don't think I'm doing this for Christmas," she calls. "Or ever again."

"So first club meeting?"
And then a little attack of panic hits her because if he doesn't remember her from the network, this is going to be awkward. "Buffy. The weird name club thing that we did that talking thing that I'm--going to cease doing now."
no subject
With another easy smile, “Nice t’meet you in person actually, it’s weird for me, talking through the doohickey.”
no subject
He puts her at ease pretty quickly and when she smiles at him it's less maniac and more relaxed. "It's nice to meet you in person too and agreed. There's lots more impact with two weird names."

He may even share some of his weed stash later if this goes well. What better way to show his thanks than that?
no subject
"Hey, Nathan! Good to see you."
no subject
"Hey," he answers, squinting at her. "Is that make up?"
Shock and horror. Never mind that this is only the third time they've met in person. It still seems weird for her.
no subject
IF that's his reaction, he knows her better than they both thought.

This is Charlie. She's a...friend. He will behave decently and adequately.
no subject
Do not ask how she did that, Tony. It was the stupidest thing. She was walking in them around the house. That was basically it.
But, whatever. That's not the point. The point is, the door is open and Charlie is grinning, probably bigger than she's grinned at anyone that's arrived.
"Hi! Come on in. I'm happy you're here."
no subject
Pascal is on her shoulder, wearing a little bowtie. He has to look nice too, of course. On her other shoulder is a little black kitten.
"Okay...here we go...best behavior, everybody...!"
So, she smiles and knocks on the door.
no subject
"That is seriously the most amazing dress I've seen. Ever. You look fabulous." To Pasqual, she waves. Yes, she's waving at Pasqual. Hypnos is purring up at the kitten. She's a good cat and is great with other felines and will tolerate any pouncing and playing the kitten will throw at her.
And then Charlie notices the pies. Hypnos is set down. "Let me take those for you," Charlie says, reaching for them carefully.
no subject
"Aw, thank you! It's sort of last minute, but I wanted to look nice..."
Pascal waves at Charlie in response, giving her a small chameleon smile. The kitten on her shoulder mews happily, jumping down onto the floor to play with Hypnos.
"Thank you!"
She hands the pies to Charlie.
"Is there anything I can do to help out?"
fff I hate that I spelled Pascals name wrong. I am so sorry.
Once the pies were set down, Charlie turned and grinned at Rapunzel. "Thank you for coming, Rapunzel. It means a lot to me. "
:D It's okay!
For whatever reason, it looked like a Q to me. I need glasses.
:3 Aw, that's okay, no harm done.

"Hi!" Charlie's grinning, despite being exhausted and she's given up on keeping her hair down. It's tied back. Down is wildly uncomfortable and it keeps getting in the way.

"Thank you! I had some help. And I randomly decided to slow roast the turkey at one AM which...I don't think that scent is going to leave my apartment any time soon. And thank you for coming!"

She knocked on Charlie's door, but spent a moment with her hand on the doorknob to unlock it. Everyone used metal locks around here, which was no problem for her. Not that she was going to be a burglar or anything, but she never worried if she forgot her apartment key.
The knock was the announcement, so after she unlocked the door she opened it and stepped inside. She'd let Katara braid her hair so it looked nice, and her clothes were pretty clean, if nothing particularly special. She could hear a bunch of people around, most of which she hadn't met. Oh, and Charlie's footsteps too, somewhere. She knew those feet.
"Smells good," she said appreciatively, tossing her coat and hat in the direction of the coatrack and wading in.

She heard the knock and excused herself from whoever she was talking to. Probably Tony. When Toph came in, Charlie was grinning. Something that would most assuredly be evident in her voice when she spoke.
"Hi, Toph! Good shot with the jacket and hat." The coat and jacket had made it. They'd covered someone elses coat and jacket but still. Good shot, indeed.
"Hope you're hungry. I cooked a lot."
