With the library in the state it is, it has taken Delacroix a bit of time to compile some notes on what might be appropriate material for a student who was just beginning. It was a difficult task for her to realign her lens in such a way. She was the chief engineer, she got to snap at her interns for being imbeciles, and they were certainly a ways into their education. Still, it's a travesty to let the girl carry on her current state, and so Marie challenges herself to change it.

She is not a woman to sit idle.

Today, she has come to the library to discuss with Rain how they are going to proceed.

Rain was nervous. Very nervous.

She wanted so badly to learn, but she was very much afraid that she wouldn't be able to and that she'd let the nice lady down.

Still she was waiting for her, ready to do whatever she was told.

Delacroix is not terribly patient with the nerves of others. It is really her impression that they should be gotten over and business should be attended to. There is clearly no other choice. She forgets that not everyone is as 'rigid' as she is, but... can reminded, from time to time.

When she spots the girl, she motions her over.

"Come, sit."

Rain hurried over immediately, hands full of pencils, pens, and a couple of notebooks. She sat quickly and looked up, all eager nervousness. "I'm so glad you're going to do this. Oh gosh, I don't even know what I'm supposed to call you!"

"Delacroix will do." It had been a very long time since anyone had the forwardness to call her 'Marie' and she approved of that, really.

She sat back in her chair for a moment to consider for a moment longer just how she wanted to proceed. She could recognize a fine balance between challenging her student and discouraging her. One she did not strictly know how to walk.

"As I told you, my strongest skills are in mathematics." Well, the strongest skills that she could easily impart. She was also quite adept with the sciences, but they were built first upon the numbers. "I 'ave made a few tests for you, zhey are not to be..." Marie pauses for a moment, she doesn't really intend to 'grade' any of the girl's work. This was not a formal school where she could be passed and failed, they would work on things until they were done, no sooner and no later. "Not to be graded, zhey will merely let me know where we are starting."

"Okay." Rain probably looked surprisingly young as she sat there, but then it was rare that someone would see her as her age. "I'll try really, really hard, I promise, Delacroix."

The enthusiasm is certainly something.

"Some of zhe problems 'ave examples, look to zhem to inform you." She removed a folder from her small stack of things, offering over the typed up sheets. "Take your time with eet. For today we will talk about what you 'ave been reading."

Rain nodded, looking at the problems with a little trepidation. "Okay, I will."

She smiled more about the reading. "I've been reading Coyote stories. About the Native American trickster, you know? He's so funny and most of the time he tricks himself more than anybody else."

Oh no, that... that just won't do. Delacroix massaged an eyebrow in silent exasperation for a moment. Of course it would be one of lewdest figures in myth. Sigh.

"You enjoy zhe parables, zhen?"

"I like all the myths and legends," Rain said eagerly. "I know a lot of the Lakota ones and last week I read some of the Maori ones and oh, they're just wonderful!"

Delacroix nodded. "I see. I will keep zhis in mind when I begin looking for texts."

She recognized fully that following her student's interests would be a tool in keeping her morale up. However, they could certainly do to lift the level a bit.

Rain focused her attention on the math problems, the tip of her tongue showing as she carefully tried to write down the answers. She wasn't much good at anything beyond the very basics, but she certainly tried.
