Spring Festival [OPEN TO ALL!]

Xanadu is buzzing this afternoon with with food stands and booths with games to play and trinkets to sell or win. There are a couple of stages where people play instruments, sing, juggle, and otherwise entertain.

People donated money, time and materials to bring everything together. Some areas are very polished and professional while others have more of a homemade touch, but it blends together nicely and there is a little something for everyone. A little further from the main attractions there is space for relaxing or playing a game of frisbee or catch.

As the evening settles upon the City, paper lanterns light up an outdoor dance floor and a band plays a range of music from romantic to spirited. There are also tables set up for those who would prefer to star or people gaze.

Rain wasn't much of a one for big gatherings, but the paper lanterns and just magicalness of it all drew her down from the rooftop perch above the Library to linger on the fringes of the festival.

The crowd was pretty focused on getting to their destination and pushing anyone who happened to be in the way was dragged along for the ride. That was why Eagle ended up bumping into Rain.

“Oh, I’m sorry, are you…” And then he smiled when he recognized just who it was, “Hello. I see you decided to come join the fun this time?”

Rain was totally caught off guard and looked scared for a moment until she realized who it was. "Hi, Eagle! I... I thought the lanterns looked so pretty from the roof and then here there was singing so I stayed for a little bit."

A timid response... well, that just makes Eagle want to ensure she gets the full experience.

"It is more fun to be in the middle of these festivals instead of only watching from a distance. Have you tried any of the rides or games yet?"

[livingmyths]

"Oh gosh, no," she said quickly, shaking her head. "Oh no, I'm happy to just watch. There's so many people, it's kind of scary."

"You really find people scary? would it be so bad if some one was with you? It would be a shame for you to miss out on all of this."

"I don't know," she said, looking a little anxious. "They're really loud in my head."

[eagleofautozam]

"Loud in your head?"

It was loud here of course with the sounds of all the people excitedly laughing, talking and screaming over the musical tones of one of the carnival rides.
But that wasn't what she meant?

"Are you telepathic?"

"Not on purpose!" she said quickly, looking worried. "I try not to hear, but when there are so many people I can't help it."

"It's fine. I know some one who used to be able to do that, well, to a point. He could speak to you without saying a word."

The Lantis from his world did have these kinds of telepathic skills.

"Does being around people make it more difficult to control?"

"Gosh. I can sometimes make people feel what I'm feeling if I try hard, but mostly I just know how they feel or hear things they think, if I'm not careful."

She ducked her head. "Lots of people mean lots more noise in my head. I can't try to not listen to all of them. There's too many."

"Is it too difficult to have any fun when you hear so many people's thoughts?"

That is a problem. No wonder she kept her distance from festivals so often.

"Maybe I could speak to a few people and they would let you enjoy some of the rides once the crowds thinned out a little?"

"It's kind of scary and it hurts my head," Rain admitted. "'Cause sometimes I don't know what is me and what's someone else when there's so many."

Her eyes widened. "Do you think they'd let me?"

"I see, that sounds very confusing."

Like the ever-present ticking of the clock only this was the thoughts of other people.

"If I explained the situation I'm sure I could convince them."

Eagle can be very convincing... or he might pay them off a little if they will not be swayed. One way or another if she wants to ride, she will.

"Would you be interested in that?"

She nodded, eyes huge with excitement, hands clasped tightly in front of her. "Oh yes, that would be lovely!"

"Alright good! I will go and speak to a few people and let you know what they say."

[livingmyths]

She looked up at him anxiously. "Are you sure you don't mind? I don't want you to get into any trouble."

[eagleofautozam]

"Not at all! Besides I don't anticipate any trouble from this. Most people are very understanding about these kinds of things."

[livingmyths]

"Okay," Rain said and smiled happily up at him. "Then I'd like that very much!"

[eagleofautozam]

"Will you still be here? Well, I suppose if you did decide to wander around I could send you a message about what the answer is."

Eagle smiled back and began to walk away. There are several people he needed to find and talk to after all.

"I will see you again later then."

"Okay," she said again, grinning and clasping her hands tightly together. "I'll be right here!"

Wandering around the festival and speaking to all of the people who would need to be spoken to does take about an hour.

"I'm sorry that took so long. I had no idea there would be so many people to track down."
He smiles and tilts his head to one side, "But, it is all settled. Once they close at 11 and the crowd has left they will allow you ride. The only one who refused was the guy running the 'Bouncy Castle'... I think he is a little overwrought since he has had to deal with kids all day."

"That's okay," Rain said with a smile. "Look. See how pretty the stars are tonight? And over there..."

She turned to point up towards the roof of the Library. "See the light from my greenhouse? Isn't that pretty?"

And then the rest of what he said clicked in. "Ooooh! Really? Oh Eagle!"

"So you didn't mind waiting because you have pretty lights to look at?"

Curious, but if that was what she liked.

"And you have a greenhouse. You must really like plants as well?"

Seeing the joy on her face when she found out the rides would be livable her for later was thanks enough. She really didn't have to say anything else.

"I hope you have fun with them. The teacup ride can make you a little dizzy though, it is something to watch out for."

[livingmyths]

"I love watching the stars. At my house I can just look straight up through my roof and watch them all night. And there's no other lights around so it's just stars." She looked rather dreamy smiling up at him. "And yes, I love my plants. They're so pretty and happy."

"Oh I will! I'll have so much fun. Will you come with me?"
