Spring Festival [OPEN TO ALL!]

Xanadu is buzzing this afternoon with with food stands and booths with games to play and trinkets to sell or win. There are a couple of stages where people play instruments, sing, juggle, and otherwise entertain.

People donated money, time and materials to bring everything together. Some areas are very polished and professional while others have more of a homemade touch, but it blends together nicely and there is a little something for everyone. A little further from the main attractions there is space for relaxing or playing a game of frisbee or catch.

As the evening settles upon the City, paper lanterns light up an outdoor dance floor and a band plays a range of music from romantic to spirited. There are also tables set up for those who would prefer to star or people gaze.

[ Sketching at a party isn't, perhaps, the most usual thing to do, but Ariadne has found a bench and is doing it anyway. Anyone who gets a glance at the pages will see that she's drawing the festival itself. ]

[Just wandering by Eagle couldn't help but notice the young lady busily sketching away... and curiosity being what it is, he also couldn't resist peeking. ]

That's very nicely done. You have managed to capture the fun of the festival quite well.

[ She can be quite observant at times, but when her attention is absorbed in her work? Not so much. Still, he's complimenting her, so surprise quickly turns into a smile. ]

Thank you. Xanadu's one of my favorite places in the City to sketch, but it's normally not quite this lively.

I would think Xanadu would be a lovely place to sketch, especially when all of the flowers are in bloom.
But, I think busy times like this are fun too.

How do you manage to capture the people so well? They don't really stand in one place for very long. Doesn't that make them difficult to sketch?

It is. The architecture is nice, too -- I've always had more of a focus on architecture for buildings, but looking at the designs for the paths and in the zoo is interesting, too.

It does, but I'm not trying to sketch specific people. I'll get a pose, a few details. I've been drawing for a long time, so going off memory instead of having them there for a reference isn't as hard as it used to be.

The architecture is nice too. They really went out of their way to make Xanadu into a beautiful place.

[She made it all sound so simple, still not being much of a sketcher himself Eagle was impressed with her skill. ]

Is this just a hobby for you?

They really did. I should spend more time here.

[ There's a bit of a shrug. ]

Sort of? I'm an architect back home, and I'm working as an engineer here. There's some sketching involved in both, but it's not quite like this.

Then that explains your interest in the architecture here!

There are a few other buildings around the city that you might be interested in then. The Library is really impressive, especially inside, the Opera House and the even the hospital have some very unique features.

I haven't been to the Opera House. [ A headtilt. ] I'll have to check it out.

[Hands slipped casually in his pockets, he stoops over Ariadne's head. Rather like a vulture.]

Impressive sketch.

But the lady near the hot-dog stand should be fatter and uglier.

[ Her eyes slowly slide up, back having tensed as soon as she realized someone was behind her. ]

The people move so quickly, I haven't been trying to capture them perfectly. Poses, a few details, and memory -- that's it, for them.

Well then. Why not lend a little imagination to the work?

[Still smirking, he points to the people in the sketch.]

Why not make a few of them dead or decapitated?

It doesn't suit the atmosphere of what I chose to draw.

Then you'll end up with a maddeningly dull picture. Happy, laughing humans people. Who wants to see that?

Of course it does, but it's not what I'm selling.

[HE HATES BEING IGNORED. For a moment, Karl imagines leaning over, easy as you please, and brushing a hand along the girl's neck. What a satisfying squelch it would make if he slit it open. The blood-splatter would be so pretty on white paper--Don't. No 'easy thrills' here. Not while Solomon is nearby.]

[Instead, he'll smile casually and lean against the bench. AND WATCH YOU SKETCH, ARIADNE. Consider it vicarious 'art-therapy' B|]

[ She had a feeling he might. Still, she's going to continue to ignore him, focusing on the booths and decorations for now. If it weren't for the fact that she can feel him watching, it would almost be just like before. ]
