Xanadu is buzzing this afternoon with with food stands and booths with games to play and trinkets to sell or win. There are a couple of stages where people play instruments, sing, juggle, and otherwise entertain.

People donated money, time and materials to bring everything together. Some areas are very polished and professional while others have more of a homemade touch, but it blends together nicely and there is a little something for everyone. A little further from the main attractions there is space for relaxing or playing a game of frisbee or catch.

As the evening settles upon the City, paper lanterns light up an outdoor dance floor and a band plays a range of music from romantic to spirited. There are also tables set up for those who would prefer to star or people gaze.

Not of the curses, certainly. But I do prefer the City to my own world.

New York, though I was in London before I came to the City.

I have never been. Is it nice there?

It is. [ But, she's never been to New York. Or London. ] I'm sorry, this is... [ she sucks in. ]

[ Looking away. ] It is very strange.

Yes. [ Frown more pronounced now. She doesn't get whatever it is you're trying to say.

Briefly, a thought flickers through her mind: she could Change what she looks like— but no. No. ] That does not make it any less strange.

It doesn't. You're nice, Tessa. [ If you only knew. ] Do you have anybody here? From London? When you're from?

Thank you. [ For thinking her nice, if nothing else. ] There is— yes. William Herondale.

[ Great. She even gets a friend from home. ] You're lucky.

Is there no one from your world, here? [ Tessa isn't necessarily sure whether she would call Will a friend. Perhaps, now, they're leaning to become friends. Perhaps not. ]

No. There isn't. [ She looks down. The line moves, she takes a step forward. She's suddenly not very hungry. ]

I'm sorry. [ Especially since she seems so sad about it as well. There are many people (at times Will included) that Tessa wishes will never come to the City. ]

[rehashing]

... Thanks. [ Tessa is nothing like Katherine. Right now, that is comforting. ] Are you hungry?

[likeboudica]

No, I had a snack earlier. [ And ice cream. ] Would you like company while you eat? [ Or would you prefer it if she left. Because she could— understand that, too. ]

[rehashing]

[ Would she like company? Possibly. From Tessa? ... She doesn't know. ] Am I keeping you from anything?

[ She could be spending time with Chekov instead, but this is— important, perhaps. ] Not truly. But if you would prefer not to, that would— I would not be insulted. It is very strange.

[rehashing]

Not today? [ It's a polite request. It's too much. Another day. When she's had time to process, when she's a hundred percent sure Katherine isn't playing some elaborate game. ]

Of course. [ She'll— stand there, a little awkwardly, for a moment, before dropping into a very quick curtsy, habits of her time becoming more pronounced with the strangeness of this situation. ] Have a good day, Miss Gilbert.

[ Mountains and deserts and whole continents of feelings on this entire situation as she witnesses the curtsy and watches her walk away. Miss Gilbert. At least it wasn't Miss Elena. Or, Miss Katherine. But, she reminds herself. Nobody here knows Katherine. ]
