Xanadu is buzzing this afternoon with with food stands and booths with games to play and trinkets to sell or win. There are a couple of stages where people play instruments, sing, juggle, and otherwise entertain.

People donated money, time and materials to bring everything together. Some areas are very polished and professional while others have more of a homemade touch, but it blends together nicely and there is a little something for everyone. A little further from the main attractions there is space for relaxing or playing a game of frisbee or catch.

As the evening settles upon the City, paper lanterns light up an outdoor dance floor and a band plays a range of music from romantic to spirited. There are also tables set up for those who would prefer to star or people gaze.

Oh yeah? What kind? [He shakes his head.] I mean, like, a specific period?

Romans. I really, really like the Romans. [ And not just Rory. ]

Huh. Why's that?

Not sure. Why's anyone like anything? [ A shrug. ] They're kinda cool.

Fair enough. I just wondered if it was, like, a certain thing, like you like the... sculpture, or architecture, or... I dunno, just making conversation.

Yeah, no.

You know, I never got the sculpture thing. What's so special 'bout sculptures? [ She might hate them a little, thanks to the Weeping Angels. ]

[Sam shrugs.]

I don't know. I mean, I guess because... people learned to represent figures and stuff so well? At least they're not as creepy as paintings.

Sculptures are definitely creepier than paintings.

Has a sculpture ever hopped out of its frame and gone around killing anyone who bought it? I don't think so.

[Though come to think of it... he actually doesn't know that for sure. Except for the frame part.]

Have you seen the Weeping Angels?

[Pause. Shit.]

Oh. Right. Er, sorry.

Yeah. Not really a fan of those.

[ Pause. ] So you got stuff creeping out of paintings?

Yeah, you know. The usual. Dead people murdering people through paintings.

That's usual?

Yeah. [Sidelong glance.] What do you know about what Dean and I do?

Not much, really. [ A beat. ] What do you do?

We find supernatural threats. And we... take care of them.

[He sighs.]

We were sort of... born into it.

Yeah? [ Tilting her head. ] Sounds exciting.

[Sam chuckles mirthlessly.]

Yeah. I guess it is. Kind of lonely, though. I mean, growing up knowing the monsters are all real. Sometimes I envy everyone else.

[ Bumping her shoulder against Sam's arm. It's supposed to be comforting, in its own way. ]

At least you're not the only one who knows they're real.

[Sam smiles, looking down.]

Yeah. Though I wish it was the other way around. It'd be nice to be wrong, for once.

Yeah. Though only if it's something you can accept being wrong about. [ Like she never could about the Doctor. And she wasn't, in the end. ]

Things being normal and peaceful and not dangerous? Yeah, I could accept being wrong if that was the case.

Good point, yeah. All right.

Hey. [He nudges her gently.] It's not the best situation. But we'll come through.
