( his phone feels like a lead weight in his pocket, weighing him down and reminding him of the current situation at hand. the current situation was that he was making his way over towards the fountain to find a person none other than the great beast, udou akira, for whatever poor reason he had in mind for calling him out here.

he said he wasn't here to stop him, but something like that doesn't seem like likely. of course he'd try to stop him, especially after agito had told him what was going down.

fuck. why was he agito's watch-dog anyway?

grumbling underneath his breath, he stops just right in front of the fountain and where akira stood. he looks him over once, eyes combing over his posture to figure out whether or not he should be expecting a fight. )

( akira was perfectly still, sitting on the edge of the fountain. he'd tried so, so hard to go along with what akito asked him to, to not make the trade, and he'd almost succeeded. right up until lind decided to be an ass.

then hearing what ikki was up to-- well, even akira had rebellious streaks. )

He'll get really mad. Still going through with it?

[crowing]

( there's a quiet sigh as he shuffles his feet. god, this is not the most awkward thing to discuss right about now. )

He's going to be mad about one thing or another. Today it'll be this, tomorrow it'll be because you overcooked his toast.

[superbeast]

I never overcook toast.

( ... but that wasn't really the point, was it? )

In that case, I want to trade for him too.

[crowing]

( okay, rolling his eyes. you're a moron and admitting to being his housewife. but then. . . he says some shit like that.

wow. just wow.

what the fuck was wrong with everybody? his answer is immediate. )

[superbeast]

Why not?

( actually looking straight at him now, because dammit he was determined. he'd told himself he was going to do this! )

[crowing]

No one else needs to make a trade. Enough fucking trades have been made already.

Hell, we got into this damn mess because of a trade, but—This is my fault, so it's up to me to fix it.

( his fists clench at his sides. )

But, I can't stand to let him continue to live like this or you know, not live. ( it's so bad he's found himself avoiding him out of fear of having to deal with it. )

[superbeast]

None of that actually included a good reason.

( he sighs, frustrated at the sheer stubbornness, but he manages to keep his tone even. )

It's not any easier for me to watch him like this either, and I've been thinking about making a trade for him for a while-- let me at least help.

[crowing]

Fuck you! He's my friend. I let this happen. That's all the reason that's needed to make sure I goddamn restore what he lost.

( he lifts a hand, waving it dismissively. )

And how do you expect to help exactly? Stand there and pat my back comfortingly as I trade away memories of my life?

[superbeast]

( he skips those first words, because akira's sure that he's been told countless times how he wasn't at fault. )

Let me trade with you, idiot. Maybe if they're getting two sets of memories they won't need quite as much.

[crowing]

( ugh. he lets out a long-suffering sigh as he glances over akira. he's heard enough shit about this, about trades, about so much. on the one hand, he's grateful that akira isn't trying to stop him, but on the other. . . ridiculously annoyed that he wants to cash in on his deal. )

Have you even made a trade before?

[superbeast]

I haven't. ( shrugs. ) First time for everything.

[crowing]

The price of a life is heavy. Do you even have anything worth it to offer them?

[superbeast]

They can take important memories. You can ask for it so they're returned after a while, right? Like Kaito when he gave up his sight... Which would also work, sight or voice or something-- though I'd rather try to go with something that isn't so blatantly obvious at first.

[crowing]

And—?

( he taps his foot against the ground, clearly waiting for something. )

[superbeast]

And what?

[crowing]

You didn't answer the question. What do you have to trade?

[superbeast]

( his fists clenched, opened for a moment-- only to repeat the same process two more times. deep breath, exhale. )

...All my memories with Ren-fah. That's why it has to be temporary, else I'll go with any physical hindrances they want to throw my way.

[crowing]

All of them, huh?

( there's a slight shake to his head as he repeats akira's words out loud, completely incredulous. how could he do such a thing? jesus. )


Why that in particular?

[superbeast]

( well, he wasn't about to start being secretive now, all things considered. it takes him a few seconds, but he does find the words. )

They've always been what's most important. But being here... it's reinforced that Akito's just as important to me. So if I have to give up one for the other to make the trade equal and actually see him happy again, it's worth it.

( feels feels feels. )

What about you?

[crowing]

( there's a pointed look towards akira before he decides that's not really worth pursuing and he doesn't care that much about it anyway. )

I said you were part of the team, so—

I'll let you trade with me.

( then there's a pause. )

I'm giving up the memories of my childhood, of everything before I got my first pair of A-Ts.

[superbeast]

You weren't kidding about that?

( innocently, doing his best to appear surprised to hear about this still being on the team business-- which in some ways he was. )

That doesn't include basic skills you learned during childhood, does it?

[crowing]

I'll get them back. ( he says it like it excuses everything, like it is a viable reason for trading away the start of his life. although, he doesn't think akira referring to being on the team. obviously. who the hell would pass up such a chance? )

( a pause. )

C'mon, let's go get this over with. I know where to get this started.
