When; Tuesday, October 30th
Rating; PG
Characters; Merlin and Charlie
Summary; It's date night. They get pumpkins and a puppy whom Merlin decides to give a 'meaningful' name to.
Log;

Monday after the Circus, Charlie didn't feel much like leaving her and Merlin's room in the mansion. She wasn't entirely certain the Circus really was gone but this can be chalked up to a huge mistrust of the Deities. They didn't seem to have the best control of the place, in her opinion.

But Tuesday, she was feeling alright enough to leave the house and the two of them decided they needed out. Just the two of them. Not for anything. It was just a reason to spend time with each other. Plus, Charlie had it in her head that they were going to carve pumpkins for Halloween.

Some time later, Charlie was walking down one of the City streets, her fingers laced through Merlins. Right now, it was just wandering. Eventually they'd make it to the grocery store but she was having fun taking her time.

Merlin was under the impression that dates generally meant something special and maybe fancy, courting as Arthur would put it. They hadn't really ever done anything like that, had they? And, honestly, he was perfectly fine with that because...

Well, he liked just being with Charlie and there didn't need to be anything else. This was natural, relaxed, and just the way he liked it, really.

Plus, why not make "special" a regular thing anyway? Even if that was contradictory.

"It's close now, isn't it?"

The wedding. It tended to slip his mind a lot, but then sometimes it barrelled into his headspace with full force.

This isn't really this late at all

Glancing at Charlie, Merlin gave a sheepish smile and squeezed her hand, just a little. The nervous smile of hers seemed rather fitting, he thought, because it was a situation to be nervous in. Wasn't it?

But, nervousness and other sorts of stress aside... "Yeah," he said with a nod. "Yeah, I am."

However risky it was, being in the City and not knowing how long you would get to stay, it just seemed like... well, a given that they might as well seal it like that. And the idea of it was... nice. It was getting nicer and nicer by the day.

"Good for them."

Because it didn't matter at all to them, as far as he knew, nope. And Arthur would give any couple looks for their behaviour because he didn't understand things like feelings and affection.

Merlin wasn't familiar with carved pumpkins, but he found that they were really pretty amazing when you were walking by them. It seemed like such a simple thing, but some people had really managed to make something incredible with them. The Pendragon family crest...

Well, that sounded very complicated. He could probably do it with magic, but that wouldn't be the same at all.

"Not that hard."
