Someone's getting married.

Charlie was married. Charlie McGee, the girl who couldn't get close to anyone back home for more reasons than she thought fair, found someone in the City to marry and that someone was, of all people, Merlin.

The ceremony itself had been nothing short of stunning, right in the center of Xanadu and even though she won't admit to it later (Except to Merlin because he had the best view of it), she teared up a few times during the ceremony. When it came time for vows, she was nervous, hands shaking slightly but when they were finally announced as husband and wife and Charlie could kiss Merlin, she suddenly felt so incredible about everything. All nervousness was gone and all she could feel was ridiculously happy.

Now at the reception, food and cake courtesy Rapunzel (And the dress, too), Charlie was busy speaking to guests and enjoying one of the most surreal moments of her life.

[ Strange, indeed, and that's why Merlin pauses for a moment to smile at the irony before he sticks his arms into the sleeves.

He's not even going to deny those words. ]

[She blushed again.]

Me? Oh. I just, um...

I was sort of thinking about Arthur.

[And there was more blushing.]

[And there would be even more blushing and a very shy nod.]

[ Now that he thinks about it, wasn't that rather obvious? ]

Oh, but you really shouldn't say anything! He's a prince, you know, so it's silly to think that - well that anything - that it could be anything.

[And more blushing.]

Oh, uhm. He doesn't care about that. He just pretends he does.

[ Oh, dear, does Arthur like Rain back then? It had been really obvious with Gwen but...

But didn't it seem like Arthur was practically flirting with her a while ago?

Oh, dear, oh, dear, god help him, what should he do. ]

He doesn't seem to care at all, but Merlin, you know! I'm not important or special or anything!

And he is!

[Her voice got very quiet.]

But I really like him anyway.

[ He smiles and puts a hand on her shoulder. ]

But so are you.

[She looked up at him with a sweet sad smile and shook her head.]

Oh Merlin. You're very very nice, but I think maybe you don't understand so much about princes.

I'm just a not so good girl who lived on the streets and did bad things to try and help the children. I'm... I'm sort of dirty.

[It made her sad to say it and she knew that everyone here felt that she wasn't bad or dirty because of the things she'd felt she had to do, but she still felt she was deep down.]

Yours weren't all that exciting either, then.

[ He shakes his head, and raises a hand to rub Rain's shoulder a bit. ]

Rain.

I don't know how much I understand about princes, but I understand Arthur better than anyone here. If he liked you in return, he wouldn't care, because he doesn't like people who aren't worth it. And I'd like to think that I don't either.

Don't be so hard on yourself.

[Her smile was still sad.]

Thank you, Merlin. You're a very nice person.

I... hope he likes me too. I know he does at least a little or he wouldn't have asked me to come today.

Well that went without saying. [ and he tugs that coat up with only modicum of gentleness (he doesn't want it ripping after all) before he spins Merlin to take a look ]

You do realize you look like a right idiot, don't you?

[ but even unkempt and half dressed, Merlin never looked better. ]

They do seem to be made for each other. Idiots, every last one of them. [ but he says it with affection, no... almost paternal pride as he gazes at them.

Merlin, all grown up and getting married... ]

Silly! They're not idiots. [Her voice is warm because she can hear the affection in her voice - and besides, this is Arthur she's talking to.]

They're lucky.

[And now she sounds a little wistful.]

Lucky to have found each other and to love each other so much.

[ he coughs a little and turns away from the happy couple ] Yes, well... I honestly thought no one would ever have Merlin. He's constantly getting into trouble back home.

[Rain giggled.]

[ He presses his lips together. ]

That is very reassuring, thank you.

[Rain blushed and ducked her head.]

Aw...

[ he grins then ] I knew I liked you for a reason. You're one of the few who can see Merlin for exactly who he is: an idiot.

[ once upon a time, he'd have called Merlin an incompetent fool. Unfortunately, he no longer owns to that title. ]

[ he starts straightening the jacket, and ignoring the tie. As if he actually knows how to tie one of those on his own. ] You're welcome. Now don't forget you were always an idiot and just be yourself, right?

Goodness only knows what Charlie sees in you. I certainly can't make it out.
