anatural: Pencil test of Korra dancing (Dancing: Finishing move)

dance dance, we're falling apart to half time

When; Friday, January 18th, evening
Rating; PG
Characters; Korra and her friends and anyone who happens to be in the club. Come one, come all!
Summary; Korra decides to celebrate 6 months in the City by dancing.
Log;She'd been woken up that morning by a incessant beeping noise; it took her a full three minutes to figure out it was her device and how to turn it off (she almost breaks it in her frustration, but she doubts she'd get any sympathy from Chekov if she broke yet another piece of electronic equipment).

What was so important that her device felt compelled to disturb her slumber?

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SIX MONTH ANNIVERSARY!

Who sent it? How did they know? Korra doesn't bother wondering. Six months… At first the thought horrifies her…but it hasn't been all bad. She fingers the necklace that Chekov had given her.

She can either spend the day distracted and wallowing, or she can remind herself of the good things she has here.

She decides to go dancing.

-----------

It's clear no one ever taught her how to get dressed for clubbing; she's just wearing her "I Mustache You A Question" t-shirt and Chekov's necklace, a strange combination of casual and fancy. Somehow she makes it work. And it's a bit early in the night for the club to really be rocking, but that doesn't slow Korra down any. She's in the middle of the dance floor, being taught some new moves by the club's regulars and just in general having a grand old time.

Come join her?

"Maybe you'll remember them once you start," Jinora prompts, hopeful.

How exactly had she been talked into this? This was what happened when you went somewhere with the Avatar. She dragged you into her orbit.

"I'll need a partner," she said reluctantly.

Hopefully Lin doesn't ind dancing with short people. At least Jinora's eager to listen and unlikely to judge too harshly?

This is weird, Lin would like you to know.

"Okay, hand here and here," she says gesturing to her shoulder and hip respectively. She'll have to lead, which is actually kind of nice. But that means she has to remember the steps backwards from how she originally learned them. Well... no one is likely to know if they mess up, anyway.

"All right," she continued, positioning her feet. "Just follow my lead."

This is going to be hilariously terrible, yep.

Jinora does as instructed, placing one hand on Lin's shoulder and the other on her hip. It's no easy feat; Lin is a tall lady. She looks down at their feet and tries to mirror the chief of police.

"Okay. I'm ready."

Lin tried, awkwardly, to give directions.

"Back - left - turn," she pushed gently at Jinora, guiding with her shoulder. They were moving much more slowly than one might in a real dance, and she was sure she was forgetting half the steps. But no one had fallen over or stepped on anyone else yet, so that was a positive.

This isn't so bad! Jinora follows along as well as she can.

"You're really good."

The chief never expected to be doing this. Much less in public. But it was oddly hard to turn down Jinora's sweet face. And it was slightly better than brooding in a corner, even if they weren't keeping time to the music at all whatsoever. If there was time in this music. If this was music. The jury was still out on that one.
