dance dance, we're falling apart to half time

When; Friday, January 18th, evening
Rating; PG
Characters; Korra and her friends and anyone who happens to be in the club. Come one, come all!
Summary; Korra decides to celebrate 6 months in the City by dancing.
Log;She'd been woken up that morning by a incessant beeping noise; it took her a full three minutes to figure out it was her device and how to turn it off (she almost breaks it in her frustration, but she doubts she'd get any sympathy from Chekov if she broke yet another piece of electronic equipment).

What was so important that her device felt compelled to disturb her slumber?

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SIX MONTH ANNIVERSARY!

Who sent it? How did they know? Korra doesn't bother wondering. Six months… At first the thought horrifies her…but it hasn't been all bad. She fingers the necklace that Chekov had given her.

She can either spend the day distracted and wallowing, or she can remind herself of the good things she has here.

She decides to go dancing.

-----------

It's clear no one ever taught her how to get dressed for clubbing; she's just wearing her "I Mustache You A Question" t-shirt and Chekov's necklace, a strange combination of casual and fancy. Somehow she makes it work. And it's a bit early in the night for the club to really be rocking, but that doesn't slow Korra down any. She's in the middle of the dance floor, being taught some new moves by the club's regulars and just in general having a grand old time.

Come join her?

And I am honored. Do you really have no princes where you're from? I find it difficult to believe that at least one hasn't tried to steal your heart.

[Swoon. No, she stays on her feet, but if she was in a novel, Jinora knows that she would be swooning.]

There are, but... I don't think that would happen. Princes don't come to Air Temple Island.

And why not? They surely don't know what they're missing.

[ he has no idea what an air temple island is. He's had little reason to delve into the geography of worlds he's unlikely to ever visit. There are simply far too many of them to waste his time on such studies. ]

Princes don't care about air bison or winged lemurs.

[It doesn't matter if Arthur doesn't know a thing about what she's saying. He's very charming and handsome and paying attention to her.]

[ he stifles a laugh ] And just what are those? [ as any young girl should be paid attention to! Especially when they're as well mannered and not as prone to getting into trouble as some other young women they could mutually name. Like Korra ]
bookbending: (Smile: Smitten)

[This is where Jinora would usually share everything she knows about both species (which is considerable), but prince.]

Animals that my grandfather introduced to the island. [But enough about animals and things that princes don't care about.] How do you know Korra?

[Korra makes life... interesting.]

{ He raised an eyebrow ] She's my student. And how do you know her? [ although he should have guessed considering the venue. Half the club had to be here for Korra's "anniversary" as it were. ]

What are you teaching her? [with the utmost politeness and humility:] She's my student, too. We're working on her airbending.

[ he frowned ] Air bending? I've heard that term before. I'm sure of it...

[ but alas, it was far, far too many months ago ]

No matter. It'll come to me later, I'm sure. And as for Korra, I've been teaching her the rudimentary basics of sword fighting. She seems to have a peculiar talent for the fighting arts. [ so much so he worried. A sword was not a thing to trifle with. ]
bookbending: (Quiet: Confused)

That's what I do. It's a defensive art that's based on the manipulation of air.

[And it can be fun, but Arthur doesn't need to know that about the very serious practice of airbending. He doesn't seem to care that much, either.]

My father thinks she's too good at fighting, sometimes. I think her style just confuses him; I've read a lot about bending the other elements and they're not like airbending.

So that's some kind of voodoo, jedi mind trick magic you're talking about?

[ he's not at all sure he's comfortable with that. Merlin was one thing, but the rest... it still made his skin clammy to the touch whenever he thought of it. A life time of conditioning... and it left him with nothing to fall back on. ]

Oh really? And what exactly makes air bending so different from the rest, then? [ and why was he even indulging in this conversation? ]
bookbending: (Smile: Curious)

Magic? No, it's not magic, it's the control of chi. Not everyone can do it, but it's not magic.

[If Arthur wasn't so charming and nice, Jinora wouldn't be happy to hear airbending accused of being magic.]

It's about flexibility and constant movement... opportunity and defense. Firebending, earthbending, and waterbending are more offensive in nature, and I think that Korra doesn't know how to apply what she's learned about more offensive elements to airbending.

[ he's still withholding his agreement on that though. If it looks like magic, it usually is magic. ]

I'm afraid you may have lost me. SO, if I'm understanding anything you just said, it's basically all hand to hand combat? [ that's about the extent of his knowledge on chi, the finding of one's center. He should really study more up on it. ]
