[Open Log] Not so very far from here...

When; Around 10 pm on February 13.
Rating; PG-13 I would imagine.
Characters; Meyer Lansky, and anyone who either works at Lucky's or wants to come gamble!
Summary; It's basically just happy fun times at Lucky's. Or unhappy not fun times, if you decide to cheat or break things! Employees, gamblers, random people wanting a drink... all are welcome!
Log; As far as Meyer was concerned, ten at night was the best time to be at Lucky's. Everyone who worked there was there by then, and that meant he could take a break from dealing hands of poker to wander through the small card room and schmooze with the regulars, as well as greet everyone who came through the door.

As he made his rounds, he was solicitous, complimenting one man on how much money he'd won in a lucky game of blackjack, and commiserating with another man on his empty wallet once he'd lost several hands of poker. He was always suggesting people have another drink, stay for a little while longer, see if they couldn't get their luck back. Maybe just one more hand would win them everything.

If you walk through the door, you're likely to see a large crowd, but Meyer will make sure to push his way through it to greet you personally, shake your hand, and suggest that you take a seat. You never know, tonight might be your lucky night...

Her head turns slowly, deliberately, looking at him with an expression unchanged. She is already deciding whether he's tolerable, but considering she has put herself out into the public, she is slightly more inclined to respond.

"Zhe odds were not promising." A Frenchwoman, her accent has remained heavy. Her ship had been full of such variations, scientists from all around the world, each with little inclination to improve upon so long as the work got done. Which is often didn't, much to Marie's annoyance. She'd warned them. "I see no particular shame in a fold."

Unlike some, who seemed desperate to make it with Lady Luck when she just wasn't that in to them.

Theo is off-putting a little. He's indoors and wearing sunglasses and he just feels... weird. Like walked across the grave weird. But he's politely friendly. And he doesn't have rats on him.

"A smart gambler," he agrees. "That's rare in these places."

Weird, perhaps. She is one of the City's walking dead and he has ties to such things, but... She has been exposed to the hypnotic song of The Many: fleshbeasts of a hivemind biomass that had taken over her crew like parasites; warping some, devouring others. Nothing can be more chilling to her, and she would not show it even there were. She has a spine of steel, was always gruff but the consumption of her ship has made her... very much a warrior. Though what role that plays here has left her very much fractured.

"I 'ave no time for idiocy," a shrug, and a warning.

"Then some may say you're in the wrong place for that," he says, noting the City Deadness and pulling "in" some of his necromantic abilities so he's hopefully not overwhelming or bothering her with them.

Her smile is faint, wry.

"Per'aps," she agrees. "But you cannot ride on luck alone."

Some skill was necessary, and that was at least a bit interesting.

Yes, skill was definitely needed once you got the lay of the land.

"No, you can't. Only fools trust in lucky alone."

Well, it's good to be agreed with. She motions blandly towards one of the empty seats at her table. Is he going to show her he's not a fool?

Theo sits at her offer.

"I'm Theodred."

"'ello, Theodred." Which is a weird name, but whatever. "My name is Marie Delacroix."

She needs more to drink, motioning for a waiter.

"'ow often do you play poker?"

It's not weird... it's Lord of the Rings... okay, yeah it's weird.

"Hello Marie. Not too often before, but I just got a job as a dealer so I'm playing a lot."
prosopopoeia: ([oh.] The time has come.)

"Quick 'ands zhen." Which is a variable to be aware of, and most certainly a veiled accusation.

"Yes, quick hands." He reaches over and grabs a poker chip doing a quick couple of hand vanishing tricks with it.

Marie is not amused, frowning into her drink. She'll just have to remember not to let him deal for her.

He places the poker chip back on the table. Well, she did ask after all.

Theo tilts his head at her curiously. "Is everything all right?"
prosopopoeia: ([ffft] The truth)

[personal profile] prosopopoeia 2013-02-28 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes." She answers curtly. Though she'll carry on with a wry tone and expression. "Per'aps I do not think much of zhose who are quick with zheir hands."

Because she generally assumes they're impertinent, if not thieves.
deadmanbusiness: (I'm Listening)

[personal profile] deadmanbusiness 2013-02-28 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Theo is not a thief. He's many things, but not a thief.

"That's too bad. We're not all bad. It's really a hobby of mine." Because a guy like him can't raise dead all the time.

"Zhat 'as yet to be seen."

Empirical proof is needed. Until then, prejudice and paranoia rule.
deadmanbusiness: (Well)

[personal profile] deadmanbusiness 2013-03-07 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
And that is a very good thing to have, Theo agrees with her. But of course he's the exception which she should realize right away. Yup. Well, no not really...

"I suppose it does."
