Summary; Korra and Mako team up to fight crime! Illness! Plague! Whatever needs fighting!
Log; [Korra sits on the front steps of the beach house, fiddling with her device as she thinks. She'd promised Rowena that she'd help her get her knife back, but she still hasn't figured out the best way to do it. She keeps second guessing herself, hesitating, uncertain. After all, what can she do? She doesn't have her powers. She's still walking with a cane. She's basically useless.

(And yet...and yet, she's getting sick of shame. A part of her is ready and aching to do something, even if she does suck. Something's gotta give.)]

[Be proud -- she manages not to make any kind of snarky response to that. (She's got enough sleep the night before to recognize when she's being oversensitive about something. She's trying to be better about that.)]

Soooo.......... I hear you want to join the police?

[flammiferous]

Oh, you heard about that?

[Not that he minds.]

[anatural]

[She nods.]

Why the police force? I didn't think you were a police kind of guy.

[flammiferous]

Me neither.

[Not for lack of wanting, but the thought had never crossed his mind. He never used to think of the sky as his limit, that instead he was destined for blue collar jobs and living paycheck to paycheck.]

I've been training for it since we defeated Amon in Republic City. That's actually the reason I was the one driving when Asami and I arrived.

[anatural]

Seriously? But what about the Fire Ferrets?

[flammiferous]

The Police Force pays better.

[He shrugs at her, sort of frowning. He'd hate for her to look down on him for ditching the sport for something better.]

Bolin's still on the team.

[anatural]

[Look down on him? No. It's just Mako and the Fire Ferrets have always been a matched set in her head. It's how they met & bonded. Besides, who's Team Leader now?

Not that it matters. There's no Fire Ferrets here, or probending.]

I thought all the cops had to be metalbenders. [At least, she'd never met a cop who wasn't a metalbender in Republic City.]

[flammiferous]

Nah, they hire others.

[Annnnnd that's all Mako will say to that because book two hasn't been released yet.....]

Anyway, something strange happened to me last night. [That's him asking permission to talk about it.]

[anatural]

[Huh. Who knew? Korra shrugs mentally and files that little factoid away to be forgotten. It's not like Republic City police structure really affects her here in the City.

She tilts her head and looks at Mako curiously when he mentions something "strange" happening to him, a silent invitation for him to continue.]

[flammiferous]

[Mako adopts an unsure expression, as if he knows this is going to sound weird.]

I kept having this repeating dream. This girl with red hair was singing about a petition. Did that happen to you?

[Surely the City can work like that, distribute the same dream between everyone. Right?]

[anatural]

A petition? [She frowns, trying to remember.] I don't think so. [She doesn't really remember her dreams these days. There are nights where she doesn't dream at all -- her favorite nights -- and then there are most nights, when she dreams about the things that have happened to her and wakes up with no memories, only a sense of pain and terror and lingering loss.]

What else do you remember about it? [She may not have had the dream, but it still sounds like something that has significance.]

[flammiferous]

That no one signed it.

[He stops and turns on his heel to face Korra. His voice turns low, and he holds up his hands like he's about to convey the importance of a secret.]

Korra, this is going to sound crazy, but I think I need to sign a petition.

[anatural]

.....you need to sign a petition. [yup. that sounds kind of crazy.]

[flammiferous]

[He lets his hands drop back down at his sides.]

I don't know how else to take it.

[anatural]

[After another moment of "weeeeird", Korra shrugs.] It's the City. [Weird shit is what this place does.]

How do we find a petition?

[flammiferous]

We go into town and look for one.

[He begins walking again.]

[anatural]

Okay. Does it have to be about something specifically?

[flammiferous]

We'll see.

[But first they have to get through the brush of the forest. He looks around, both wary and fascinated by so much nature. Clearly he's a city boy.]

[anatural]

[Korra watches Mako watching nature, and it makes her grin affectionately. She's an arctic girl, but she still loves the forest and being around nature. (It's an Avatar thing.)]


Don't get out much, do you, City Boy?

[flammiferous]

[He delivers her a crooked smile.] It took you a while to get used to the city, if I remember correctly.

[Then he shrugs.] You're right, it's different.

[anatural]

Cities are weird. [She makes a face.] Too many people.

[flammiferous]

Yeah, well. Nature's poisonous. [It's more of a fact than an incriminating statement. He moves his arm out of the way of a shrub adorned with shiny leaves. That's the rule of thumb, isn't it?

ANYWAY.] Is that why you moved to the beach?

[anatural]

[She shakes her head.]

The apartment was getting too crowded. It was me, Jinora, Tohru, Bei Fong, Naga, and then all the other animals. We needed more space. Besides, Naga's better off by the ocean where she can keep cool.

[flammiferous]

Makes sense.

[He pockets his hands. He's a little curious...] So- the last time Bolin and Asami and I were here... was it just us?

[anatural]

[She nods.]

And Naga. We had this cramped little two bedroom right in the City. She hated it there.
