Summary; There's no legal drinking age in the City, but who says we can't party like there was one anyway?

This party was four years coming. The restaurant has set aside a large room just for this event and on short notice too. The food is plentiful and of various cuisines, with even a large selection of vegetarian options for those who prefer that. But of course, there is more alcohol than one has ever seen because Angela knows the people she invited and knows quite a few of them have liquor in their veins instead of blood. Rule of thumb: more liquid than solids every time.

Everything's set and ready for the birthday girl to make her appearance, so for the time being, Angela's flitting around the place dressed in more subdued colors than usual, choosing black because no one gets to stand out more than Ginny tonight, and socializing with the few guests that have shown up already.

Sadly, there are no strippers. Ginny nixed that one hard.

Oh. Jim was talking about getting people together. To go to the beach. I was going to grill. But, it was like, a week ago. So, probably not? [ He was going to grill veggies for Spock, too! ]

[logistical]

[Ah, but then Jim and McCoy had had their fallout, and no beach. Thank goodness. Spock doesn't exactly swim for fun. Or do these kind of things at all.]

That plan has encountered delays. I am certain the Captain will fulfill his promise to... take you to the beach. Soon.

[Tiny awkward.]

[affectioning]

[ Tiny adorable. ]

If not, it's cool. [ He's still smiling. Beaming, you might say. ]

[logistical]

[He just looks at Scott curiously.]

You are not disappointed?

[affectioning]

A little. But, it'll happen another time. There are other things to worry about. Like, the clinic. And another friend of mine got here today. It'll happen when it happens, right? [ OPTIMISM, SPOCK. ]

[logistical]

[He'll never admit it, but that optimism means a lot to him. Even something small, like this.]

Your friend. They are accounted for?

[= 'Are they safe?']

[affectioning]

Yeah. They are. Her name's Lydia. She's over there. [ He points her out, looking like a million bucks. ] She's a survivor.

[logistical]

[His gaze doesn't follow the finger, he is more interested in the way Scott speaks about her than what she looks like. Anyway, he'll meet her eventually.]

She was injured, before she came here? Or upon arrival? Dr. McCoy is highly competent in these matters, he will see to her.

[affectioning]

What? [ Woah. ] How'd you know that? [ He does furrow his brow. ] Yeah. He uh - I'll bring her to him tomorrow. [ He meant it in general. Maybe he should've said she adapts well. ]

[logistical]

Your use of the term "survivor" indicated she had undergone a traumatic, possibly physically debilitating, experience. A doctor is a logical choice in these circumstances.

[Gosh, Scott.]

[affectioning]

[ WOW. Oh, Spock. ]

Who hasn't been through a lot? [ Oh my god. ] If you see her can you not bring that up with her? [ It's really rude. And she'll kill him. ] I meant she adapts. Like, really well. And she's strong. Strong-willed?

[logistical]

[Who hasn't, indeed? Spock attempts to find an analogue: this is like Jim telling people he's lost Vulcan. Grief is private, and not for their ears.]

Your secret will be kept. May I suggest the term: "tenacious"?

[affectioning]

Yes! Tenacious. Tenacious is a great word. [ Wait. Give him a second. He's only been studying a few months for the PSATs. ] What's the word tenacious mean?

[logistical]

Stubborn. Resolute. Unyielding.

[He's a teacher at heart, okay.]

[affectioning]

Oh. Yeah. She can be. [ But, in a good way. ] Thanks. I'll remember that word.

[logistical]

[He nods, approvingly.]

Pardon me. I did not introduce myself. I am Spock.

[affectioning]

It's okay. Thanks. Still Scott. Or, Mr. McCall. [ Either one. ] It's really nice to meet you, Spock.

[logistical]

Likewise.

[And he glances briefly to Angela, because she's checking how many people he's talking to, tonight. Judging the conversation as mostly finished, since all the relevant data has been exchanged (and he really doesn't want to talk about beaches, sigh, Jim), he holds up his hand in the Vulcan salute.]

[affectioning]

[ He smiles, holding his hand up. It takes him two tries but he maneuvers his fingers successfully. ]
