Characters; It's Ginny's birthday party and everybody Ginny knows was invited. Let's handwave that and just show up. BTW, IT'S BLACK TIE. PUT ON YOUR SUITS, BOYS.
Summary; There's no legal drinking age in the City, but who says we can't party like there was one anyway?

This party was four years coming. The restaurant has set aside a large room just for this event and on short notice too. The food is plentiful and of various cuisines, with even a large selection of vegetarian options for those who prefer that. But of course, there is more alcohol than one has ever seen because Angela knows the people she invited and knows quite a few of them have liquor in their veins instead of blood. Rule of thumb: more liquid than solids every time.

Everything's set and ready for the birthday girl to make her appearance, so for the time being, Angela's flitting around the place dressed in more subdued colors than usual, choosing black because no one gets to stand out more than Ginny tonight, and socializing with the few guests that have shown up already.

Sadly, there are no strippers. Ginny nixed that one hard.

[ A smile. Also, maybe, yes, but it's not a date like that. It's a friend date. FRIEND DATE. He still needs to think of Allison!

Angela did a really great job.

With everything, yes!

You invited your friends, right? You know they're welcome to come.

[And she's very fond of Stiles, they had a serious conversation a while back in the Hall.]

[affectioning]

I did! Well, Stiles was already invited. And we're dragging Isaac and [ he's looking around, seeing if they're here yet and then - oh no. he turns back. ] And my mom.

[hexuality]

Yeah, I heard she was here! [In the City, not the party.] I'd love to meet her. How's she adjusting?

[affectioning]

Fine. Good. I mean [ he's looking at Ginny now, then down at the glass of champagne in his hand. he nursed the same one all night save for Angela's topping him off. ] -- she's here. Tonight. She came.

[hexuality]

Yeah?

[She twists around where she's standing, scanning the crowd as if she can spot a woman she's never met before.]

Where? I ought to go over and say hi.

[affectioning]

[ Nooooo. ]

She's over there. [ Okay. He could be drinking... not champagne in a champagne glass. ] She will. [ Or, Ginny can. ] See, adjusting.

[hexuality]

You look like her.

[Come on, Scott, parents are awesome. Ginny's mother comes on visitors' weekends sometimes and it's both exasperating and wonderful to introduce her to all her friends.]

Is she one of those mums that would rather I didn't call her a missus?

[affectioning]

She's not married anymore. Just Ms. But, she'll probably tell you to call her Melissa.

[hexuality]

I thought I'd check.

[But there's a brief, apologetic smile she shoots him. Seems like most people she knows in the City haven't got the kind of family she does and she knows it isn't something to feel sorry about, it doesn't make her family better than anyone else's—but she can't imagine having anything but.]

Maybe you ought to drink that where she can't see you, though. I wouldn't want to get in trouble.

[affectioning]

Yeah. I didn't -- think she'd actually come.

[ He thought she'd be tired or at least let him know when she was on her way. ]

I'll be okay. I never do this. [ Just beer at parties. ]

[hexuality]

Go to parties or drink at them?

[affectioning]

Drink at parties my mom's at.

[hexuality]

Well, you're being responsible and we're all taking it easy. Don't worry.

[affectioning]

I am. [ SEE? ] So, is it really going to snow at midnight?

[hexuality]

Did Jim tell you that?

[She starts laughing.]

Idiot. It was meant to be a surprise. Yeah, if people want it, I'll make it snow.

[And it'll cover the place in a fine dusting of it but disappear instead of melt after a time, so it doesn't make the restaurant angry.]

[affectioning]

Why people wouldn't want it?

[ A smirk. ]

Hey, don't blame him. [ He could've over heard it. ] I'll keep the surprise.

[hexuality]

Because it's summer and a good handful of you lot are new here. Wouldn't want to do too much at once, you know.

[JK THIS IS A WEASLEY.]

Yeah, keep it quiet. I like surprises.

[affectioning]

Maybe it helps. Maybe doing too much, setting things up, helping out - it helps us? Helps us get used to it, helps us forget we may never get back home.

[ Even if his father is gone from his life and a few towns over, now he may never actually see him. ]

I will! Thanks for inviting me. This has been really cool.

[hexuality]

[Her brows knit at his first statement but she's gone over this with him before, she thinks going home can still happen for them. Even her, even after four years.]
