Rating; PG-13, at best. Angela's on her best behavior tonight.
Characters; It's Ginny's birthday party and everybody Ginny knows was invited. Let's handwave that and just show up. BTW, IT'S BLACK TIE. PUT ON YOUR SUITS, BOYS.
Summary; There's no legal drinking age in the City, but who says we can't party like there was one anyway?

This party was four years coming. The restaurant has set aside a large room just for this event and on short notice too. The food is plentiful and of various cuisines, with even a large selection of vegetarian options for those who prefer that. But of course, there is more alcohol than one has ever seen because Angela knows the people she invited and knows quite a few of them have liquor in their veins instead of blood. Rule of thumb: more liquid than solids every time.

Everything's set and ready for the birthday girl to make her appearance, so for the time being, Angela's flitting around the place dressed in more subdued colors than usual, choosing black because no one gets to stand out more than Ginny tonight, and socializing with the few guests that have shown up already.

Sadly, there are no strippers. Ginny nixed that one hard.

[This is an unfamiliar face to Angela and all that means is that it's somebody she hasn't bothered tonight. The woman already has a drink, so Angela gets one of her own, some fruity cocktail, and heads over to the table.

The woman is at a party, eyes stuck to her phone. This is just wrong.]

Hi. I don't know you so I came to introduce myself. [She holds her hand out for a shake.] I'm Angela.

[ at least she's been using it to do quantum physics vs texting, checking facebook, or playing candy crush. the phone's turned off and set aside when the other woman makes her approach, more concerned about leaking that which has yet to even be postulated in the 21st century than she is about how she's making herself look by opting to work sit on her phone instead of actively socializing.

the name is one she recognizes from open conversations she's had with the enterprise's crew, but a public setting stops her from offering up rank and ship registration just yet. ] Kathryn. [ with a polite smile, she shakes the offered hand. ] It's a pleasure to meet you, Angela. Rumor has it this party was all your doing.

Give the credit to Ginny, honestly. She's the one who broke down after years of me bugging her to have one. Without her, none of this would be possible.

[With a nod to the phone, Angela smirks slightly.]

New here? [Which translates to Are you being a wallflower because you don't know anybody?]

I'll be sure to thank her for caving, then. Still, you've done a good job with this set up. It's been a long time since I've been to anything like this out of uniform.

[ the last time she attended something like this on business that wasn't an official starfleet/federation matter, it was her sister's wedding. kathryn would've already been married herself, had voyager not been flung into the delta quadrant and effectively put an end to her engagement to mark johnson. she hadn't wanted him to wait for her, but that didn't mean it hadn't hurt to receive confirmation from the man himself that he hadn't, that he'd moved on and married someone else. ]

That's a matter of perspective, but it's been a little over a month since my arrival.
