Summary; There's no legal drinking age in the City, but who says we can't party like there was one anyway?

This party was four years coming. The restaurant has set aside a large room just for this event and on short notice too. The food is plentiful and of various cuisines, with even a large selection of vegetarian options for those who prefer that. But of course, there is more alcohol than one has ever seen because Angela knows the people she invited and knows quite a few of them have liquor in their veins instead of blood. Rule of thumb: more liquid than solids every time.

Everything's set and ready for the birthday girl to make her appearance, so for the time being, Angela's flitting around the place dressed in more subdued colors than usual, choosing black because no one gets to stand out more than Ginny tonight, and socializing with the few guests that have shown up already.

Sadly, there are no strippers. Ginny nixed that one hard.

I have been told that you are brilliant? [Nothing but curiosity!]

[At the last bit, he can't help but laugh somewhat sheepishly,]

Brilliant? Well, that's certainly not putting the pressure on or anything. I try.

If your superiors think that you are brilliant, you must be doing a good job of trying. My I ask what your specialties are?

I'm in operations, so I work with a mix of some science and engineering. Quantum theory, astrometrics, holographic programming, systems maintenance...

[At least in part? Can haz.]

That is very impressive! [This is said with a good deal of sincerity. Harry, being from the future relative to Pavel's time, is basically a knowledge rock star.] I would like to ask you about the recent developments in the science and technology of your time, if you would not mind--not now, of course, I mean when you aren't occupied. I have studied physics, warp engineering, and transporter theory extensively, but I think that everything that I know would seem outdated to you.

Well, I'm definitely not an expert in all of them, just enough to get me by with some flexibility in the departments.

[He's modest enough that the sincerity from Chekov makes him a bit flustered, and he's got a small smile cracked as he gives a little sideways tilt of his head.]

Those are impressive fields, though - and the integral theories and base of knowledge hasn't changed as much as you'd think, really. I'm sure you'd still be more than a little impressive.

[That's is also way more than he'd realized Chekov worked with.]

I'd love to sit down and compare notes, though. From what I've been briefed on, your timeline's a little different than the one I'm familiar with.

You are still very young--you have time to become an expert in all of these areas.

[Unlike Harry, Pavel has little in the way of modesty (in part, perhaps, to make up for an excess of teenage insecurities). He only sells himself short when he thinks it's warranted.]

That is kind of you to say, but I will not blame you if you change your mind. Ca--Janeway, I mean... she knows more about the physics of exotic space phenomena than anyone in my time, even the greatest experts.

[He can fanboy if he wants, be quiet.]

Yes, we can do that! Mister Spock would be able to tell you more about the differences between our timeline and the one that you are from, and so you may want to compare notes with him. I will tell you what I can, though.

[Funny thing, the one calling Harry young looks pretty young himself. He's not sure how to take it, really.]

She's had a lot of experience - and she was definitely far beyond knowledgeable before a lot of it.

[The Delta Quadrant has been no shortage of new information.]

I'd love to hear it. And to hear anything you've learned about this place - we'll definitely make better progress working together, I'm sure.

We will, yes. Kirk has claimed a portion of a local lab for our use; most of my notes on the City are there, although how helpful they will be, I don't know.

[Hey, he's still a hell of a lot younger than Harry is.]

[He smiles there.]

I've seen it, actually - Janeway brought me there when I arrived and briefed me on the situation. And-- well, I know I'm new to all this, but I'm sure that anything you have has got to be helpful in some way. We might just not know how to apply or interpret it yet.
