should old acquaintance be forgot —
When; Backdated to the Auld Lang Syne curse.
Rating; PG-13 because Bones' language, ok.
Characters; Ginny Weasley [
hexuality] & Dr Leonard McCoy [
medicos]
Summary;
The end of the holidays brings reflection and Ginny finds out just who she reminds the good Southern doctor of.
Log;
[For the first time in a long time, there isn't a Winter Ball to mark the end of December. Ginny supposes that fell out of style when the Pevensie family returned home, but she finds she does miss the glamour of it all. But there's something sweet and charming about a holiday festival in its place, everyone mingling out in the streets and the occasional powdery drift of snow lifting off the roof and dancing on the light, chill breeze.
She's exploring and thinking about giving a certain Starfleet lieutenant a phonecall to join her when she comes across Bones instead. She knows the crew of the Enterprise has had a hard few days with Spock's departure and she can only do so much to offer her support to a family she isn't part of, but she does understand. And this is perhaps the first time since before the holidays that she's even run into Bones so she glad to see him now, catching onto the sleeve of his jacket and smiling.]
Hey. [She releases him once she's gotten his attention, tucking her hands back into her pockets, cheeks pink from the cold but expression warm.] You just planning on sneaking off without a word to me?

He doesn't quite forget the fact that in a few days, it'll be Jim's birthday. He'll have to stock up for that.
He's on his way to the liquor store, trying to avoid the celebrations in as much as he can, when he's stopped by Ginny, so of course, he's compelled to actually make his way over to her. ]
Just didn't see you there, probably.
[ Not that he's making fun of how short she is or whatever. ]
Having fun?

Getting some fresh air. [She glances towards the illuminated ball poised over the ruins of the deity office.] I thought I'd ask someone to join me but then you turned up. Fancy that. [Softer,] Doing alright?

[ For the most part. He isn't the one that's been affected the most by - everything, really, but he's most conscious of what the others are feeling because he is their doctor. ]
That's funny, I think I owe you coffee, too. From last time.

[Pointed, sweet,]
I know you're busy but I miss you, you know. I could get up to trouble and no one would yell at me for it.

[ There's no harm in a detour before he starts making his way out to buy all the alcohol he could find in the city. There's a small cafe that sells good coffee just down the road, one that he passes by on some mornings when he forgets to use the coffee maker in his apartment with Jim. ]
I've been busy, but I'm not sure about you. How are you?

Yeah, she's smiling.]
I'm wonderful, thanks. I mean—I really am sorry about Spock, I was quite fond of him in the end. But things are... [She gives a little one-shouldered shrug, something private and helplessly happy in how she speaks, carries herself.] Anyway, I'm alright. Keeping an eye on you lot.

[ In retrospect, life was so much easier when he didn't care much for Spock beyond the both of them being Starfleet officers forced to work together. And then things just started happening and now it's spiralling out of control - Bones dislikes him more than ever but would really not want to see the damn bastard dead.
He'd even miss him, in as much as he'd miss someone so infuriating. See: Jim.
The wave of nostalgia brought about by the curse doesn't so much as hit him as it creeps up on him, wrapping around him like a determined vine. ]
We never got along much, me and Spock. Even back home, we fought about every single damn thing. Just about the only thing that we could agree on was related to Jim.

[She gets it. There were people in the DA she didn't necessarily like, but they were bonded by the war and working towards a common goal and personalities clashing or not, they'd all stand in front of a Death Eater's wand for each other. She knows that.
Ginny quickly pushes that thought away, though, thinking it an unfair comparison. The war doesn't bleed into everything, let alone here in the City, and she can't keep letting it. She barely talks about it with Sulu beyond brief questions and answers, not because it's difficult but because it's unfair.]
But you never know. He could be back. I usually wait a month before I really think someone's gone for good around here, but maybe that's... I don't know, more depressing than anything else. Experience.
