Log; Ongoing
When: September 28th
Rating: PG, maybe PG-13 for language?
Characters: Sands
blind_shot and Veronica
how_very_v
Summary: Veronica heads to Sands' place after a dramatic and bewildering declaration of love for a little talk.
Log:
Veronica had woken up feeling a tiny bit off. She knew it was a curse day, having seen Ran de-aged to childhood and half the City change genders, but since she wasn't affected that way, she was worried about exactly how she had been. And then Sands, with the seemingly left-field declaration of undying love , made her feel even weirder. It had to be the curse day, there was no other explanation for... that, but somehow it just felt... right.
It felt like it did with JD. That was the scariest thing.
And she had said so. Admitting to feeling that, for her boss, when she'd sworn never to be that stupid again nagged at her something terrible. But it was muted, dimmed by the fact that yeah, maybe she wouldn't mind being with Sands. They get along, and it's not like he's hard to look at, and every once in a while she's caught herself wondering what it'd be like to-- but what the hell, that's just stupid hormones, it doesn't mean anything. So she'd thought.
Now, though, letting herself into Sands' apartment and slipping the jacket he'd given her off her shoulders and onto the back of a chair, she wasn't so sure. "Boss?"

Now, though, letting herself into Sands' apartment and slipping the jacket he'd given her off her shoulders and onto the back of a chair, she wasn't so sure. "Boss?"

The curse is effecting him in strange and disturbing ways.
"This whole boss thing isn't working for me any longer. We're partners now. I want to marry you. I need a different name."
Pushing himself off the wall he walks to her, only to be beaten there by El who knows of Veronica's fear and finds it tasty. She gets between her and Sands and stares at the girl.

Standoff.
She swallows thickly. The cat can stare into her soul. This is somehow more troubling than Sands' (and her own, quite possibly) brand-new insanity funtime.

"Anyway- You don't have to call me boss. I have a first name."
That only Jack was allowed to use till now.

"...Look, where did this come from? Because the other day, you were crazy for Ran, and I was the go-to girl for advice on Winning the Heart Of Crazy Women. Now all of a sudden you want to marry me?" Veronica rubs her forearm, a tiny bit nervously. "Not that I'm complaining, but all this is really sudden, don't you think?"

What does it matter how long it took me to figure that out?"
He flops down on the couch preparing to talk her through this. When he puts his mind to it he can have eskimos buying up ice cubes by the truck load. This is obviously how you deal with relationships as well.
"When you're ready. It doesn't have to be now."

"JD, besides being obviously named after liquor- and what is with that? Gin and JD.- was a teenage boy with social problems. I'm a man with..." He thinks about that for a moment.
"Eccentricities."
"But I thought you'd be happy. If it freaks you out you don't have to sail with me on my own personal Love Boat. You know how I feel. I want you to feel the same way but if you don't I can slowly wear you down the old fashioned way." He grins at her, this is a plan.
"I can't exactly put a lid on it, or just don't want to really, but I'm not going to hold a gun to your head and insist you play along."

Quiet. Thinking about JD puts her in a mood, and not really a good one. After a long time, she turns to Sands. "It's not that I'm not happy. Hell, I'm head over fucking heels, but I told myself I'd never make that mistake again. You're going to have to give me one hell of a good reason to take that chance."

He sits there with his arm propped on the back of the couch and his chin in his hand. She's awful cute when she's irritated.
"Okay." Sands leans in, putting his face close enough to hers that they would touch if she took a deep enough breath.
"I love you."
Before she can say- argue with him or something- he kisses her.

She pulls back, opens her eyes, and whispers. "That's a good reason." And she smiles cutely and kisses him again.
Romance is easy, it's the consequences that piss her off. At least when she's busy with happily kissing Sands, she doesn't have to think about how fucked up it is.
