Log; On-going
When; February 5th.
Rating; PG-13-R
Characters; Dexter
dark_passenger & Rudy
drprosthetics
Summary; Dexter and Rudy get to know each other better with a night together. A movie - or perhaps some music?
Log;
Dexter hadn't been thinking straight since Rudy, or Brian, as he knew him, came to the city. How could it be that someone he thought was gone for good-knew was gone for good, still walked and talked like nothing ever happened to him?
And for some reason, forgave his brother for doing un-thought of things to him. Dexter didn't understand, but didn't question it, because in all honesty, he liked spending time with Rudy, his brother, his only true friend.
Dexter stopped to rent a movie on his way home to his apartment, where he knew Rudy would be waiting. He picked up some horror films that featured serial killers; comedies in his eyes. He was sure his brother would enjoy them too.
Letting out a deep breath, he opened the door to his apartment. "Brian? You here?"

"Brian? You here?"

"Slow Ride" filled the room and Rudy jumped from behind the wall, air guitaring the night away and lipsynching to Foghat.
Oh what memories it brought back for him, the nights when he chased Dexter. The days when he pretended to love Debra, when really he wanted to be close to his brother.
And now they would never be apart.
no subject
"Not again, Biney." he said smiling, "You know I don't dance."
Maneuvering his way past Rudy, he set the movies on the coffee table.
no subject
"I'm in the mood, the rhythm is right,
Move to the music yea, we can roll all night, yea."
no subject
"I can't, really!" Dexter said trying not to laugh at this point.
"How about I just make some steaks?"
no subject
Bursting out in laughter, Rudy rolled over onto his back.
"Sure, steaks would be great. Got any wine?" Rudy said as soon as he gained control.
no subject
Dexter forced a smile as he moved toward the kitchen. "How would you like yours cooked?" he asked, opening the fridge, and grinning as he pulled out a bottle of wine, holding it up for Rudy to see, almost like a trophy.
no subject
"What did you bring for us, Dex?"
no subject
Dexter chuckled a little bit before looking back to Rudy. "Remember the first time we shared a couple of porterhouses, Biney?"
no subject
"How could I forget? Oh, what a delight it was to see that I had your full trust while I was 'with' Debra...It was a nice illusion to the brother bond I so badly wanted...and now have...
Pour me a glass of wine, will you?"
no subject
After watching the steaks sizzle for a while he reached up to a cabnet and opened it, in order to grab a wine glass for Rudy.
He grabbed two, one for himself, and set them on the counter next to the wine bottle
"For some reason..." Dexter said, opening the bottle, "I wish I would have known sooner...that you were my brother, I mean."
He poured the wine equally into the two glasses. "Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy your little games..."
Continued Log on AIM;
"Do you think it's my fault?" Rudy sat up and pulled his knees to his chest.
"Do you think...do you think it'd be different if we weren't separated?"
Rudy froze. The blood bath flashed before his eyes again. He watched young Dexter cry, he watched helplessly. He felt alone all of a sudden, powerless.
And a tear fell.
Dexter-
Dexter set the wine bottle back down on the counter."Biney....that's not what I meant..." he said, leaving the kitchen. "Of course it's not your fault."
Dexter kneeled in front of his big brother, "I don't want to know what it'd be like if it was different," he said, putting a hand on Rudy's shoulder, "because it wouldn't be the same, I mean, what we have now."
Rudy-
Rudy buried his head in between his knees. What a joke this is that he - Rudy Cooper, no, Brian - be turned into mush by a single human being? The same human being who betrayed him once before...
"No, I can't think that way anymore. We're brothers. Blood brothers," Rudy thought as his tears slowed.
The memories flashed by once more and Rudy grabbed a hold of Dexter, hugging him tightly, as if Death himself was knocking at the door.
Dexter-
The hug took Dexter by shock, as he wasn't one to really show affection. But Rudy was different, he was his brother, and something about that fact pulled actual emotions out of Dexter.
"Brian..." he mumbled, hugging him tightly back, "would you like some wine?"
Rudy-
There were so many feelings that were locked away after Rudy was released from the hospital. They treated him as if he was a monster and so he took what made him a monster and supressed theme. He supressed them with everything he learned as a big brother to Dexter and now, Rudy wondered who the big brother really was.
Realizing just how tightly he was hugging Dexter, he let go and sat with his knees to his chest again, looking just a little emptier."
Dexter-
Dexter gave him a warm smile before standing up to get the wine. He picked up the glasses, one in each hand, and headed back to Rudy's spot on the ground. He set them on the coffee table next to them and sat back down, unsure of what to say.
"I'm...really glad you're here." he mumbled, finally.
Rudy-
He barely heard Dexter. Something came over Rudy, a familiar sense of nothing...
He barely remembered where he was. Looking around, he saw things that looked..familiar, but he couldn't place where he saw them before.
"Why can't I remember anything?"
Continued Log on AIM;
"What?" Dexter asked, confused. "Brian, are you ok?"
Looking at Rudy eye-to-eye, he still couldn't figure out what came over him. "You didn't even drink any wine yet!" he cracked a smile, but it soon faded as he continued to stare into his brother's empty eyes.
Rudy-
As quickly as it came, the emptiness was filled with thoughts of finally having a family, being family with Dexter.
"So how about that wine?" Rudy said with a smile.
Dexter-
"Yeah," Dexter's smile came back when his brother came to, "How about it."
He lifted the glasses off of the table and handed one to Rudy. "Cheers, or...whatever people say these days." he said, before taking a sip.
Rudy-
Raising the glass slightly, Rudy returned "cheers" and took a sip. What a lovely taste it was.
He put his glass on the coffee table and positioned himself so he could take a look at the movies Dexter rented for the night.
"Silence of the Lambs!" Rudy thought to himself. It was one of his favorites: Hannibal Lecter was, in a way, just like him. Or at least, they were both charming.
Remembering the steaks, Rudy sauntered off to check on their meal.
Dexter-
"Oh yeah, good idea." Dexter said, watching Rudy check the steaks. "They're probably charred by now." he said, looking at the movies himself. At this point he'd forgotten what he picked out.
"Should I put the movie on?" he asked, looking back at Rudy.
Rudy-
"They're actually okay," he called back. Even if they were charred a little bit, Rudy wouldn't give up steaks with his little brother. He found some plates in the overhead cabinets and then he took the meat off the grill. Looking up from his attempts to make the steaks look more appealing, Rudy saw Dexter eyeing the movies.
"Do you want to try to eat these, or do you want to settle for a weird combination of popcorn and more wine?"
Dexter-
"Either way is fine with me." he said, "I can honestly say that I love food..." and he did, it was the only thing he actually enjoyed doing other than letting his passenger play.
"If you don't want yours, I'll eat it." he said, opening a dvd case and spinning the disk around inside of it like an impatient little kid.
Rudy-
"They seem to be rather dry of blood and that's just...well, unsatisfying," said as he walked by Dexter and prompty sat himself on the couch. He took his wine glass and took another sip.
Dexter-
"Nice and clean," Dexter said grinning. He wanted those steaks more than anything right now. "Silence, it is?" he asked.
Rudy-
"Put it in, will you?" Rudy replied, rather impatiently.
no subject
Dexter nodded, got up and put the dvd in it's player. After turning the tv on he grabbed the remote and sat back down next to Rudy. "I think I like it here, in this city, I mean. With you." he said, smiling to Rudy as he skipped through the previews.
Rudy-
A small smile spread across Rudy's face.
"Yes, Dex. It's fantastic...Have you seen this movie before?"
Rudy already knew the answer.
Dexter-
"Yeah..." he said, staring off into the space beyond the TV screen. It was one of those movies that would tickle The Need, but Dexter wouldn't let that interrupt his night with his brother.
Rudy-
The movie started and Rudy moved himself closer to Dexter. He wanted to savor this night, a lovely night it has turned out to be...
Rudy wondered what Dexter expected of him.
But he couldn't let that ruin this night, he needed to stop thinking about everything, analyzing each detail and supress any impulses he had. Every ounce of energy was to be devoted to Dexter.
Dexter-
Dexter's head turned to Rudy so fast his neck almost snapped. "We forgot to make the popcorn!" he said, "I really hope I have some in the cabnet..." he said, looking over in it's direction before slowly standing and making his way over there.
"Are you going to have some too?" He called behind him as he opened the cabnet, wondering how much he should make. He pulled out a "family-sized" bag and put it in the microwave.
Rudy-
"Mmmm, might as well 'put the lotion in the basket,'" he said as he smiled.
Dexter-
Dexter waited impatiently for the popcorn to cook, and almost tore the microwave apart to get it out. He carried the bag back to the couch for him and Rudy to share, but then stood there puzzled trying to figure out where he was going to sit.
Rudy-
Looking up, he Rudy realized that he was taking up the whole couch.
"Agh, sorry Dex," he said as he sat up. While he was up, Rudy went to get a blanket.
"Where did you get this couch? It's so comfortable, I'd love it for a bed."
Dexter-
"Thats just it, " Dexter answered, "I didn't. The apartment came furnished." He sat down on his comfy couch, plowing a handful of popcorn into his mouth. "Another thing about this city I like, no need to worry about money or a job... it's care free." he continued, as little bits of popcorn sprayed from his mouth here and there.
no subject
He came back to the couch and sat next to Dexter, leaning on him.
Rudy took a handful of popcorn and carefully picked at it.
The movie started and he paid no attention.
"Tell me more about the city," he said, inbetween bites.
Dexter-
"There's not much to tell, really," he said, continuing to shovel popcorn into his mouth. "I haven't really gotten a chance to explore it in full. Just been places I've needed to go."
"There's one thing you might find intriguing though, I certainly do," he said, and a small smirk crawled across his face. "There's this 'religious cult'," he continued, "They've been killing and terrorizing other citizens. Their leader? He thinks he's a God." Dexter chuckled. He had run-ins with this 'god' in the past. "The thing is, he does have powers. He knows about me. It's like he read my mind."
Dexter set the popcorn down in between he and Rudy, "The thing is, he disappeared before I ever had the chance to find out more information...." Dexter shook his head, "I've never been one to believe in God, anyway."
Rudy-
Rudy perked up at the opportunity...
He didn't feel the need to kill, but he was intrigued by the cult.
"What is their purpose? They seem like a good group to use to follow 'Harry's Code'...though I've never been one to believe in it."
Dexter-
"They think they have a code of their own. Judgement, Biney. But I've seen their work...it's not the same." Dexter smiled. "And they're not the only ones in this city that fall under Harry's Code." Dexter felt himself grinning and suddenly stopped. "You could help me, you know. We could punish them...together." he finally said, staring Rudy straight in the eyes.
Rudy-
Listening to those words, Rudy still found himself unsure. He was against everything having to do with Harry's code. Technically speaking, he was dead according to Harry's code...
"Why should I kill under a code that killed me? Isn't that technically hypocrisy?"
Dexter-
Dexter could feel his jaw hanging, he shook his head. "Brian..." he put a hand on his brother's shoulder, " then...don't kill them because of the code. Kill them because they're perfect victims. I can't even imagine their emotions when it's their turn to be hunted. Don't do it for the code, Biney, do it for us. We can do it as brothers."
Dexter wasn't sure what he was getting to, but he did like the idea of working with his brother, seeing him in action, and at the same time he couldn't bring himself to do anything or let anything happen to an innocent person.
Rudy-
Taking another handful of popcorn, he sighed.
"I don't know, Dex. Let's just watch the movie."
Dexter-
Dexter, still in excitement mode, felt like a bucket of water was just dumped over his head.
"Oh...ok..." he said and looked down at the popcorn, grabbed a handful, and sunk back into the couch to eat it comfortably.
"I haven't watched this in a long time..." he mumbled.
