Summary: Legato asks Knives about his Gate and speaking with Vash.
Log:

Legato had seen his master in Xanadu speaking with Vash, and it seemed to be a less than friendly conversation. And now he had the opportunity to ask him about it.
So he went upstairs, where Knives was seated and approached him with his head slightly bowed.

"Master," he said. "There are some things I would like to speak with you about. Firstly, about Vash."

Knives had just returned from his greenhouse and checking on the growth of that new plant, and was now attempting a crossword puzzle when Legato approached him. Laying down the pencil, he regarded his servant with a slight tilt of his head.

"Go on."

"Vash will try to kill me in due time," the plant replied, stifling a yawn and stretching. He picked up the pencil again and focused on the crossword. #28 down... hmm, six letters.

"We were talking about the City, among other things," Knives continued absently, filling in a couple of letters, then changing his mind and erasing them. "It wasn't anything important."

Knives finished the word and crossed it from the list before replying. "I have. It hasn't worked." He flexed his left arm. "I can create a blade roughly my height, and morph it into whatever shape I want, but it doesn't remain as easily as it would if I had all of my power. It's supposed to be a natural City limitation."

And he hated it, of course. What he wouldn't give to have all of his power returned to him... but that cost might be too high for even he. He would have to live with it in the meantime.

"And what about yourself? Your power?"

Knives acknowledged his servant's handicap with a nod, tapping the point of his pencil against the tabletop. Flowers the color of determination, said the hint. Eight letters. "As long as you can still kill, then it's fine," he said idly, adding random vowels to the grid. "Arms and legs alone can cause major damage."

With Legato leaving, Knives turned his full attention to the puzzle, but at the sound of the other man's voice, he lifted his head. What of Chapel? He was useless without his weapons, but knowing the City, those could be supplied easily enough. The priest was no longer of use to Knives and hadn't moved to attack him yet, but...

"If he attacks you, defend yourself. Otherwise, keep an eye on him, but keep out of any conflicts until I've revived."
