The gaslamps flickered as Julius walked down the street, coat slowly swaying behind him. Somehow... this place seemed perfectly suited for someone like him. An old vampire hunter who theoretically should be retired.

Damn prophecy. Damn memory loss.

Damn Dracula still being alive.

Julius chose to respond by throwing the bottle of water at Alucard's feet. Wherever it landed, blue flames sprang up to knee height almost instantly.

Alucard blinked as the scalding flames licked up his being. Now that is different... he thought.

Throwing back his head, laughing, he stepped away from the fire, flesh knitting back together, eyes glittering, "That actually hurt!"

When he was younger, Julius might have said something like "That's the idea!".

At this age, however, he just pulled out a cross and threw it at Alucard, darting to the side to avoid potential counterattacks.

With a gravity defying spring to the side, Alucard narrowly avoided the cross and drew the Jackal, firing off a warning round that blew a hole in whatever was behind and to the left of the priest's shoulder.

Julius was already gone. He leapt up to the wall and pushed off, flying over Alucard and throwing another bottle of holy water.

"Agile, for a human," Alucard murmured, eyes narrowing. Dropping his shoulder, the flesh sleeve fell off, revealing the shark like fangs and eight red eyes of a hellhound.

The creature dashed forward, then yelped as the holy water burned it's face.

Julius slid along the floor behind Alucard and flung three silver knives towards the vampire and his creature.

The knives slid through vampiric flesh, searing away chunks where it touched. The hound whined and retracted into Alucard's body.

Julius stood up and reached for the whip at his side. He brought it out and cracked it at Alucard.

The knives fell from Alucard's flesh, open wounds healing. The whip, however, seemed to do nothing. He caught the tip around his forearm and arched a brow at Julius, "That's it? A whip?"

"...Hmm." Julius said. "That's interesting. You don't seem to enjoy the holy objects, but the whip..."

Uncurling the end from his forearm, lips pursed, "Should I be in pain?" Then reached out, dark aura touching that of the whip.

And pulled back, "What have you done."

"Yes," Julius said. "And the whip is not something I did. It's something you did. The other you."

"This other version of myself bound a human girl's soul into a whip?" Alucard asked, somewhat incredulous.

"She gave herself willingly," Julius said. He coiled the whip and put it back on his belt. "Because there was no other choice. The alternative was damnation as a vampire. And the reason there was no other choice was because the other version of yourself so desperately wanted to mock God with eternal life."

"Now that part sounds a bit more like me," Alucard admitted.

"And yet," Julius said, pulling out another bottle of holy water and tossing it up and down off handedly. "The whip doesn't seem to hate you."

"Perhaps due to my affiliation with Hellsing and hunting vampires," Alucard replied. "I don't suggest you toss that, you have seen I can heal the damage."

"Perhaps," Julius said, continuing to toss the bottle. "And I'm tossing this up and down because I'm old and experienced and not dumb. But I don't think Hellsing has anything to do with it not hating you."

"Then what do you think it is?" He asked, curious, before smirking. "If I really wanted to hurt you, those holy relics wouldn't stop me."

"I haven't even begun to fight, Dracula, so please drop the arrogance," he said. "It's... what's the word? Boorish. Anyway. If the whip doesn't hate you, it's not because something external, like your masters. It's because of something internal." He pocketed the bottle and turned on his heel. "Good evening, Count. I'll be keeping an eye on you."

"Don't blink," Alucard replied before shifting to a cloud of bats and flying away. Arrogance? What would a Dracula be without it?
