She was strewn arftully across a chaise lounge in one of the quiet parlors of the Hellsing penthouse flat that Arthur took on. Something akin to a violet silk sheet was draped around her body, but most certainly was a dress that left pale, perfect arms, legs and decollatage bare.

"Henry," a soft and subtle voice, feminine, cultured called to him as he entered. Half sitting up, she offered him a seat next to her. "I'm so sorry for neglecting you these past few days. For showing such a sorrowful demeanor when I should be happy to have you near. But our enemies have been plotting and I needed to assure your safety."

Slender and dexterous, fingers flicked the dark hair that fell in slight waves from her shoulders as she reached forward, plucking a teacup from its fine saucer. "I made this especially for you, tell me how it tastes?"

The tea was laced with her blood. Blood that would begin the path of manipulation.

Henry had been been comfortable enough here, and he was really grateful for their help. But the weeks hadn't made this place feel any more like home, and he wondered if he'd ever be able to stay away from the mansion for good.

He'd been quiet- very quiet. But that wasn't unusual for a man prone to disappear into his room for days at a time, someone who was so careful not to disturb anyone.

But he'd certainly be happy to talk to people if they offered, and so now he was sitting down next to her, taking the teacup from her hands. His hands felt huge and clumsy around it. He smiled nervously at her and took a sip.

It wasn't how he was used to tea tasting, but then it wasn't in a mug, either. "It's good. Really good...thanks very much." He took another sip. "Is that why you called me over here?" he asked, still with that nervous smile on his lips.

"Oh...okay." It was nice to hear, but not really necessary. He'd like to talk to them, but he worried about what they could do. Ironically, the very thing he was falling susceptible to was one of his fears- he didn't want anyone messing with his mind.

Still, he really missed Alessa, her quiet elegance glowing from her even as a darkness hinted from below. "They asked about me? What did they ask? Why...why didn't they just talk to me?"

Even as her face faded from memory, changed into something slightly different, he wonders- should he have tried to understand a little harder?

But no, they were monsters. Nothing he'd heard from anyone had changed that. He didn't want to be a monster, too. Besides, there were lots of good people willing to help him out. Even though he had no way of knowing whether this was true or not, he had to tell himself they are- otherwise he'd made a mistake, and a rather large one.

He set the cup down and let her hand slide over his, absently rubbing it with the pad of his thumb. "I missed you, too. I'm sorry I've been so...uh, quiet. I don't know how to deal with all this, still..."

"Help...? Yeah, I...that's part of why I came here. I want to remember it, so I know what really happened." He squeezed her hand and looked hopefully up to her. "I kept trying to remember, but it slips away every time I get close. I think...maybe somewhere in me, I don't want to remember. I sabotage myself before I...uh, actually get anywhere. If you remember some things, maybe I can...uh, I don't know."

He fell silent again- he'd already said all of this, why did he bring it up? He never knew how to talk to people, especially when they seemed interested in talking to him. And it's things like this he seemed allowed to remember, but whenever he pushed for more details, everything would disappear, like cockroaches in bright lights.

"How did you know me....?" he eventually asked, meekly. If she'd rather not talk about it, he wouldn't push, but...she seemed willing to go into it.

Something was striking him as wrong, very wrong. But of course it is, if they managed to change him so much....right? He cautiously squeezed her hands back, returning her sad smile. "I...I'm sorry I don't remember. That must hurt...I'll try harder, I promise. If you tell me, I'm sure I'll pick it up faster."

His smile fades and he looks up to her, serious. "Did you...uh, how did they do all of that to me? do you know?"
