When; August 16th, Evening

Characters; Arthur Hellsing [[livejournal.com profile] arthurhellsing] and Saya [[livejournal.com profile] repairedbywebs]
Summary; After having a nice chat over the network the two decide to meet for dinner at Pandora's despite the rainy weather.
Log;

It had been quite some time since Arthur had spoke with a woman who had enamored him so quickly. Not only was she beautiful but she was also witty and charming. Granted he knew there could be a catch but at this point he was willing to chance it. Women like Saya didn't come along everyday and he would be a fool to let the opportunity to get to know her slip away over what could potentially be nothing.

They had agreed to meet at seven and despite the fact it was raining Arthur managed to be there on time. His overcoat and shoes were a little wet but the umbrella had managed to keep him mostly dry. Now it was only the matter of awaiting his date's arrival.

"I see," Saya whispered slightly. She had only met one hunter before and he had wound up cocooned and bound in her back room. She drained him two days later, when she was hungry enough.

Human politeness dictated slight touch on dates; but the male had to engage it. She wasn't very good at body language. She asked as she moved her long fingers over the table, "How old are you, Arthur?"

Age didn't matter much to her, but wasn't that the kind of thing people asked on dates? Her fingers moved like her legs, long and snapping before they went completely still.

Her fingers found his palms, and something clicked in her head.

It wasn't uncommon for her kind to live for long stretches of time. If she dissolved into a thousand spiders and they all infested another body, she could continue herself in a presumably endless wave of Saya. There was a reason her species were referred to as body snatchers.

His skin was cool and lovely, like a carapace. She knew her fingers were overly hot - it was a side effect of her human body, a sort of compensation. She smiled and for the first time since she had met him, it was a real smile, the kind of smile that lit up her entire face. "That doesn't bother me, if you were worried," she told him. "I can tell you a great secret; dead things, live things, none of it bothers me, if I find myself interested enough."

She dipped her head once.

"Your daughter is young then, to be so surprised. Surprise...I understand. But I do not feel it much."

It was slow, and it was real, and it was truth. What was happening here? She hadn't been so fascinated with a human since she was twenty, and she had eaten him. "I do not feel much of anything." She laughed.

"Do you guess what I do?"

Saya's fingers moved slowly, creating patterns in Arthur's palm. "A woman of my intelligence," she cocked her head in an odd motion. Her eyes had been drawn to the helix of his upper ear. She leaned over slightly. "I'm a mechanical engineer."

It wasn't bragging - it was fact. "You're so used to supernatural things, Sir Arthur...I don't think I'm all that impressive." She felt the truth press against her. "That's not modesty, or self-pity." Her voice went softer. "There are things I do not like, because of the way I am."

She wondered if that made any sense. She was hungry, and when she got hungry, it became difficult to translate what the spider in her head said. "You think I'm beautiful, and I think you're charming. Let me say that it's rare I find anyone who is so fascinating to me, dead or alive."

She found herself smiling again.

"You're welcome." She turned slightly and stood up, leaning over the table to brush her lips against Arthur's forehead. She smiled the way she smiled at prey, but only out of habit. His skin was cool, so cool against her lips.

She settled back down. "You must forgive me, for that. I get a bit impetuous, when I get hungry."

Instead of staying seated, she stood up and took his hand in hers. "Forget dinner," she said, realizing that it would be pointless for the both of them. "I want to show you something."

She was starving, but solid food wouldn't do her any good. She hadn't caught anything out of the simple fact that she didn't have any time. The rain that day had daunted her from hunting, even if she was dizzy.

"I have to admit," she began and she stepped forward, her legs slipping out of the slit in her dress as she moved, "That I may have given you the wrong impression."

As they got out into the street she ducked under his umbrella, clinging to him out of necessity. "I haven't lied to you; not really, in any case," she began as she pulled him across the Square and towards the warehouse. Every time the water brushed against her skin she flinched slightly. The spider buzzed in her head.

She pulled him into the warehouse, it's dry safety reassuring. She smiled at him again. "I'm not human," she admitted after a moment, slipping her heels off.

She paused; just long enough to make the spider shut up for a moment.

"I'm a werespider."

She waited for him to turn around and leave. That would be easiest. If he stayed, her emotions might actually begin to emerge, to knot themselves around this man. It had happened to her mother; she knew it could happen to her.

The word werewolf made her shake her head. It snapped her out of everything - he was still here.

"No, not like a werewolf," she replied. "I mean; I can turn into a spider, and I have a war-form, like a werewolf, but I'm not base, or ferocious, or fueled by my emotion." She paused and thought about it. "I don't know much about other worlds. But I've found in some worlds people are made into werewolves; humans are bitten, or injected with lycanthropy." She turned. "I was born like this. This is what I am."

She smiled up at him; it was a calm sort of smile. "Passion is not my forte, Arthur. I apologize for this sudden announcement, but I felt, as it were, it needed to be said. I would not want you thinking that I was normal, only to find out in months that it was a lie." She moved forward slightly, seeing if he would reject the space between them. "You are the most fascinating human I've met."

She could feel the cracks in her hunger settling into place.

"Would you still be interested in pursuing me?"

She liked to know where she stood.

[identity profile] repairedbywebs.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
She smiled slightly. "If I were to pursue a relationship with another Ovid - another spider," she began carefully, "I would be killed." She caught her fingers together. "Shifters in my world can only be with humans. Otherwise we're committing a crime against nature."

She watched him. He was genuinely thinking - he was not fleeing.

He was technically dead. But he was here, not rotting, not falling to pieces, genuinely worried.

Only her brother genuinely worried about her.

She smiled again. "I don't care," she said, and she meant it. "Didn't I tell you that earlier?"

[identity profile] repairedbywebs.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
"As long as it doesn't bother you that I'm twenty-five," she said, stepping forward to meet him halfway, "and that I live in a warehouse with a talking car," she reached for his hands, taking them in her own, "then we're set, aren't we?"

She smiled truly. Human things.

It was his coolness she would remember that night, later, when she was building her sylie and finally getting dinner she had managed to catch when they had come seeking shelter from the rain. As a spider, the feelings were muted even more, but she remembered how cool his skin had been against her own.

She bid him a fair goodnight and watched him disappear into the night.
