Log: Ongoing
When; 24th April
Rating; Wont even make it to PG~
Characters; Clark Kent [
solared] and Kara Kent [
maturesfaster]
Summary; Time for a family gathering, Krypton-style!
Log;
An actual cousin. It didn't matter how many times he thought on it, there was no way he could get his head round the whole idea. Someone else had survived Krypton's explosion. Someone else who also happened to be related to him, and had found their way to Smallville. His entire connection to his birthplace had come in the form of an artificial intelligence, a few 'enemies', and leftover memories. The City had given him a welcome change to all that, allowing him the opportunity to learn more about a place he'd never see.
But now, everything had changed yet again, with one new arrival.
He'd been avoiding her, and he knew it. He was also fairly sure the others knew it too. What did you say to someone who seemed to know all about you when you had no idea they even existed? Someone who'd actually met you before. Like the hero that he was, Clark had backed out of finding an answer to the problem. Instead, he and Shelby had spent most of the day off around the City, using anything he could find as a distraction. It was a plan that only worked for so long however. Even if he hadn't been tired, there was only so much walking the pair could do before they had to return home.
The barn then. He was in the middle of his sixth reorganisation of its contents by the time his network device went off. So it seemed like it was finally time to bite the bullet.

"You could do that so much faster, you know," she said as she watched him move things about.
It was just another example of him hiding his powers, trying to be human, trying to fit in. She could partially understand it, from what she had seen back home and in Smallville humans were cruel and murderous to each other, more so to those who were different from each other. But to Kara, that just seemed like more reasons to separate yourself from them.

"I could, but I'm not." Another was moved before he finally turned to face Kara, wiping his hands on his jeans. "Just because you're able to move that quickly, it doesn't mean you always have to do it. And besides, sometimes it's better to take your time with things."
Abandoning his work for the time being, Clark moves away, keeping his attention on his cousin. "It makes things easier, too. To not stick out. Especially here."
no subject
"Especially here?" she asked. Kara was careful to keep her tone from sounding accusatory since she could tell this Clark didn't quite have the... affection for her yet that the one back home had.
"Clark, people who are normal are the exception here. No one thinks twice about the other non-humans here. There's no reason to hide who we are and lie to others and ourselves about it."

He took a deep breath, trying to stall his own words. This really wasn't the meeting he wanted to have. Especially not when he was trying to develop some kind of connection with this 'stranger'. He just needed to try and get the point across. Not for his safety. Not even for Kara's. But for everyone he knew here. Especially those from their world.
"People may be more accepting about what we are, here. But that still doesn't make it the right choice. Not when there are so many people who'll try to use their own knowledge against us."
no subject
It wasn't her only reason, but she knew it was one that Clark might understand and go along with. And helping the woman last night had felt good. She could see why Clark was willing to use his power to help people. And to get syrup.
"I don't want to pretend to be human," Kara told him flatly, looking him in the eye. "But I will so long as you chose to, so that I don't expose you."
no subject
"For every person who's grateful for the help, another group are going to take notice of you. There's nothing wrong with helping people. There never has been. I just don't want to get the others pulled into something dangerous because of it. You said it yourself, there are people here with abilities. But that just means there are more people who can try to turn them against us later." It was a topic that he'd gone over in his head more times than he could remember. In some ways, he completely agreed with Kara.
"It's not pretending to be a human. It's just...keeping certain things hidden. Making sure not to bring it all to other peoples attention."
no subject
"I think you're wrong, Clark," Kara flatly told him, arms crossing defiantly over her chest as she stared flatly at him. "But since not pretending to be human would put your secret at risk I'll keep pretending. For now."
And no matter what Clark said, he was pretending. It hurt a bit that he would hide his heritage but she knew that he wasn't ashamed of it, at least that she could tell. But she wouldn't let him get away with calling what he was doing anything other than what it was; pretending to be human.

Weren't they?
"I know how you feel though. To have the ability to help people, but to not be able to openly do it. I just need you to trust me that things really are better off this way, in the long run." He may've been asking for a lot, but if it meant keeping the others safe, he knew he had to try.

While technically that was probably not entirely true Kara felt that it was close enough to the truth to be accurate. She had been sent to Earth to watch over Kal-El and that didn't change just because he wasn't a little boy anymore.
"That doesn't mean that I'm always going to do what you say," she added with a mischievous grin. "Because I will do things my own way. But if what you
While technically that was probably not entirely true Kara felt that it was close enough to the truth to be accurate. She had been sent to Earth to watch over Kal-El and that didn't change just because he wasn't a little boy anymore.
"That doesn't mean that I'm always going to do what you say," she added with a mischievous grin. "Because I will do things my own way. But if what you <i<is true, then I'll come to the same conclusion as you regardless."

"I wont push it then. Everything will make a litle more sense, eventually." How long that'd take, he didn't know. But if it at least took longer than it would for him to try and...decide on a few things, that was all that mattered.
"Earlier, you said that you were in Smallville Reservoir. Why didn't anyone know? My father never said anything about any family still being alive. But he would've known, right?" To Clark, it was just another secret that Jor-El had kept from him. To this day, he had no idea how much of what he'd been told was true, and what had been distorted to fit the situation. But until now, he had nothing to compare it all to. Things would be changing, starting now.

"Your father didn't know that I was sent after you. My father, Zor-El, was an enemy of Jor-El. Zor-El, he... he liked your mother. I think he hated your father because of that..."
She hung her head, going silent for a moment. While she had come to grips with the fact that her father was not the good man she thought he was, it was still a difficult reality to face. Also, the idea that her father wanted to hurt Clark upset her. Taking a deep breath, she looked up at him again.
"I was told I was being sent to watch over you, but that wasn't true," she said. "He sent a crystal that would recreate a version of himself and your mother on Earth... he wanted to take it over..."

"Some things you don't have a control over. You're forced to make do. It doesn't matter where they stood with each other. You choose your own friends. It just seems like I've been given an added bonus of one of them also being my family too." There was an honest smile with his conclusion. Even if they'd only just met, on his part at least, he truly believed in what he said.
"So...he and my mother are alive again?" He knew that the crystals within the fortress held memories and information. And judging by some of the things he'd been told about, that was just the start of it. But to recreate an actual person, and his mother of all people, that was an idea he'd never even dreamt of before. "What happened?"

Pulling back she sighed when she thought of the situation with Zor-El and Lara. It was still a sore spot with her, the fact that her father wanted to hurt her aunt and cousin.
"Zor-El... you had to destroy the crystal to stop him and it got rid of both him and your mother. I'm so sorry Clark..."

But he knew he would've tried everything. Both of them would've. After all, Kara herself had said that she'd been close to his mother, before. They'd even come to Earth together once. Between the two of them, he had no doubt that they would've exhausted every possible resource in finding a way to keep her there, at least.
"I get to meet her. That's more than I could ever ask for. No matter how long it lasts." Or at least, that was what he'd like to believe. It probably would've felt very different at the time tough. On either side of having met her.
